Android Pulse is a Google system service, not a heart-rate app. Google says it distributes rules used to detect anomalies in critical resource consumption by Android and installed apps. Its appearance in Play Store updates was accidental, according to Google via 9to5Google.
What Android Pulse does
Google Play lists Google LLC as the publisher and describes the service this way: “This app facilitates rule distribution for anomaly detection in critical system resource consumption by the Android operating system and installed applications.” The listing’s short label is “Defining anomalies for debugging.”
That description establishes a role in distributing detection rules. It does not explain what specific resources are assessed, how often checks occur, what happens when an anomaly is found, or whether the service fixes a problem. 9to5Google characterizes Pulse as software diagnostics, but examples such as battery, CPU, and memory are not specified in Google’s description.
Why it appeared in Play Store updates
Android Pulse surfaced in the Play Store’s updates list. Google said that appearance was accidental and that it pushed an update so the service would appear in Settings instead, according to 9to5Google’s August 25, 2026 report. A Google spokesperson told the publication: “Google system services updates make your Android devices more secure and reliable, and give you new and useful features.”

What Google Play discloses about data
Google Play’s data-safety panel says the app may collect app information and performance data. It also reports that data is not shared with third parties, is encrypted in transit, and cannot be deleted. These are disclosures supplied by the developer; they are not an independent audit or a complete account of data handling. The available information does not explain exactly what data is gathered or how anomaly findings are handled.

The published description and reporting do not establish that Android Pulse measures a person’s pulse, presents a consumer-facing interface, continuously watches battery, CPU, or memory, identifies a particular third-party app, sends alerts, fixes battery drain, or reports findings to Google. They also do not specify availability by device, Android version requirements, whether users can remove or disable it, where its rules originate, or what action follows detection.
