AMD Helios is a rack-scale AI infrastructure platform—not a standalone GPU or a conventional single server. AMD’s July 2026 launch description combines 72 Instinct MI455X GPUs, 18 EPYC Venice CPUs, Pensando networking, and ROCm software in one coordinated rack design. The published counts describe that rack configuration, not a universal CPU-to-GPU pairing or every system customers may deploy.
What AMD Helios is designed to do
AMD positions Helios for frontier AI, large-scale inference, and foundation-model training. Rather than selling the idea as one accelerator card, the platform coordinates compute, memory, data movement, power, cooling, and software at rack scale. Its core components are AMD Instinct MI455X accelerators, EPYC server CPUs, Pensando networking, and ROCm software.
At a high level, GPUs provide the accelerator compute, CPUs provide host and system processing, networking moves data within and between systems, and software supports the platform stack. That is general system context; AMD’s public overview does not specify a complete workload allocation or detailed CPU/GPU topology.
How the rack is put together
AMD describes Helios as a design that treats compute and data movement as parts of one system. Its product page identifies Open Rack Wide (ORW), Ultra Accelerator Link (UALink), and the Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC) as open standards associated with the platform.

Scale-up: connecting GPUs within the rack
AMD describes four scale-up cartridges using UALink over Ethernet (UALoE) to connect as many as 72 GPUs. The product page lists 260 TB/s of aggregate scale-up bandwidth. This is an AMD-published rack specification; it is not a per-GPU bandwidth figure.
Scale-out: networking beyond the GPU fabric
For scale-out networking, AMD lists 43 TB/s. Scale-up and scale-out describe different parts of the data path, so the figures should not be treated as interchangeable or added together as a single bandwidth number. The public product description does not provide enough topology detail to infer the configuration of every deployment.
Rack, power, and cooling design
AMD describes an ORW-aligned rack with a vertical busbar and centralized power shelf. Its cooling design includes a manifold and quick-disconnect connections for compute and switch trays. These details indicate a liquid-cooling-oriented rack architecture, but AMD’s cited public overview does not state a facility power budget, full rack dimensions, or customer-specific cooling requirements.

AMD’s October 2025 announcement said Helios was aligned with the Open Rack Wide specification introduced by Meta and contributed to the Open Compute Project (OCP). That alignment provides context for the rack design; it does not establish that every implementation detail is standardized or interchangeable among vendors.
What the published Helios numbers mean
The following are specifications AMD lists for the Helios rack on its product page, accessed October 13, 2026. They are vendor-published figures, not independently tested results.
| Specification | AMD-published figure | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Instinct MI455X GPUs | 72 | GPU count in the described rack |
| HBM4 capacity | 31 TB | Rack figure |
| Memory bandwidth | 23.3 TB/s | Per GPU |
| Scale-up bandwidth | 260 TB/s | Aggregate rack figure |
| Scale-out bandwidth | 43 TB/s | Rack figure |
| FP4 performance | 2.9 EF | AMD-listed figure; the product-page performance footnote defines its measurement context |
| FP8 performance | 1.4 EF | AMD-listed figure; the product-page performance footnote defines its measurement context |
These values have different scopes: one is per GPU, while others describe the rack. Keep those labels attached when interpreting or comparing them. AMD’s product page provides the specifications and relevant footnotes at AMD Helios Rackscale Solution.

What “Venice” means in Helios
Venice is AMD’s code name for its 6th Generation EPYC server processor family, identified in AMD’s 2026 material as EPYC 9006. AMD says the family uses Zen 6 and TSMC 2 nm process technology. Its July 2026 family-level specifications include:

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11- Up to 256 cores and 512 threads per socket.
- Up to 16 DDR5 memory channels.
- JEDEC-standard MRDIMM support up to 12,800 MT/s.
- PCIe 6 connectivity.
These are maximum or family-level specifications, not a promise that every EPYC 9006 model or every Helios rack uses all of them. AMD’s launch announcement specifies 18 Venice CPUs in the described 72-GPU rack. It does not establish a per-GPU pairing, socket topology, or bill of materials for all customer systems. AMD’s family overview is Agentic AI: AMD EPYC 9005 CPUs Wins Today, EPYC 9006, formerly code-named “Venice”, Takes It to a New Level.

AMD’s July 2026 launch announcement says Helios offers “up to 30% more tokens per dollar than the leading competitive solution.” This is AMD’s comparison claim, not an independently verified general advantage. The “up to” qualifier matters: the result depends on the workload, software, system, and comparison assumptions in the announcement’s footnote. It should not be treated as a guaranteed outcome for every model or deployment.

AMD CEO Lisa Su’s launch statement framed the broader market opportunity: “The next phase of AI will span frontier models, agents and physical AI, creating new opportunities to bring intelligence everywhere.” That is executive commentary, not evidence for a technical specification.
For a meaningful comparison between rack platforms, examine the same workload and system generation, and check accelerator type and count, memory capacity and bandwidth, scale-up topology, scale-out networking, power and cooling needs, software support, serviceability, standards alignment, availability, and cost per token under disclosed benchmark conditions. The cited public materials do not provide independent, like-for-like deployment data that would support ranking Helios against alternatives.
What the public specifications do not establish
AMD’s product page and launch materials describe the architecture and selected specifications, but do not provide a complete bill of materials, detailed rack dimensions, facility power budget, deployment guide, full CPU/GPU topology, or independently replicated benchmark results. Those details matter for facility planning and procurement; a published rack overview alone is not enough to size a deployment or predict its performance in a particular environment.
