A Nendoroid is a small, chibi-style character figure, typically around 10 cm tall, designed with replaceable face plates and other parts for changing its expression and pose. To swap a face on many models, you remove the front hair piece, replace the face plate, and put the hair back—but the exact steps and which parts fit depend on the figure and product line.
What is a Nendoroid?
Nendoroids are palm-sized collectible figures based on characters from anime, games, and other media. Good Smile Company describes them as approximately 10 cm tall and designed with swappable face plates and body parts for different looks and poses. The figure’s included accessories and articulation vary by release, so check the product listing for what comes in the box. How do Nendoroid face plates work?
The face plate is the front section of the head that carries the character’s expression. A typical change uses designed connection points in the head rather than requiring tools. In the manual for the Hitori Gotoh: Maid Ver. [Basic], the face plate is accessed by removing the front hair part; the illustrations also show the back head part separating from the neck joint plate. Follow the manual for your own figure, because assembly can differ between releases. The cited figure’s official instruction manual shows its specific parts and assembly.
Changing a face plate
- Check the figure’s instruction manual for its head assembly and identify the front hair part and face plate.
- Remove the front hair part as directed. Do not force a connection if it resists.
- Replace the face plate with the desired one, aligning the parts as shown in the manual.
- Reattach the front hair part and check that the head is seated correctly.
The cited manual advises trying warm water if connecting or replacing parts is difficult and warns users to avoid burns. Treat that as model-specific guidance, not permission to apply uncontrolled heat. For the stand shown in that manual, the support arm’s wider plug goes into the base and its thinner plug into the figure; overtightening the arm’s screws can cause damage. Use the directions supplied with your own release.

Can you swap parts between Nendoroids?
Some Nendoroid parts are designed to be shared, but compatibility is not universal. Good Smile says Nendoroid [Basic] figures share hand, leg, head, and face-plate parts with other Nendoroids. That is a series-level compatibility statement, not a guarantee that every sculpt, accessory, or connection will fit every model. Check the exact figure’s guidance and the part’s dimensions and connection type before attempting a swap. Good Smile’s Nendoroid [Basic] explanation describes the parts it identifies as interchangeable.
Nendoroid Dolls
Nendoroid Dolls use Nendoroid heads and a matching neck-joint design, and Good Smile says Nendoroid-series hand parts can be used with Dolls. The company also cautions that some heads and hands may not be compatible. A Doll’s more articulated body is a distinct design, so do not assume standard Nendoroid bodies, clothing, or other body parts are interchangeable with it. Nendoroid Surprise
Nendoroid Surprise figures are non-articulated. Good Smile does not recommend swapping their character parts with parts from other figures, though it says the heads can be interchanged. Treat this as a separate case from standard Nendoroids and verify the specific figure’s instructions. Good Smile’s Nendoroid Surprise overview explains the line’s design.

- Connection: Identify whether you need a head or neck connection, hand, face plate, body part, or stand attachment; compatibility for one connection does not establish compatibility for another.
- Exact model: Check the figure’s instructions or product information rather than relying on a general claim that parts are shared.
- Box contents: Confirm which expressions and accessories are included. A figure’s contents differ by release, and [Basic] figures omit face plates and optional parts while retaining the stated shared-part functionality.
- Part origin: Distinguish official accessories from original custom parts and third-party listings. Good Smile’s guidelines allow creators to describe their own original items as compatible, while restricting misleading branding and reproductions. Read the company’s series-handling guidelines.
Can you buy a replacement Nendoroid part?
Good Smile says it does not sell individual parts and does not offer repairs. Its support guidance notes that spare neck joints are included with the series. If a stand breaks, the Nendoroid Easel Stand may be an alternative, but attachment depends on the figure’s design. Good Smile’s support answer about broken or missing parts covers these limitations.

For an alternate or replacement display setup, the official Nendoroid Base Parts Set is listed with two bases, two support arms, one extension arm, and four attachments sized 5, 8, 10, and 15 mm. Good Smile warns that some figures may not be compatible; stock and regional availability vary.
