A Bluetooth neck loop sends audio from a paired phone or other source to a hearing aid or cochlear implant processor through two different wireless links: Bluetooth carries audio to the loop, then a magnetic induction signal carries it from the loop to the hearing instrument’s telecoil. The hearing instrument must have a working telecoil, often selected with a T setting.
What a Bluetooth neck loop is
A Bluetooth neck loop is a wearable audio accessory, usually worn around the neck, that bridges a Bluetooth audio source and a telecoil-equipped hearing instrument. It does not send Bluetooth directly into the hearing aid’s telecoil. Instead, the loop converts the received audio into a magnetic signal that the telecoil can pick up.
In the typical arrangement, a phone pairs with the neck loop over Bluetooth. The wearer selects the hearing aid’s T setting, if needed, so its telecoil receives the loop’s signal. NIDCD explains that a telecoil receives an electromagnetic signal and turns it back into sound within a hearing aid or cochlear implant processor. NIDCD’s assistive-device overview also describes wearing a neckloop to send audio to a telecoil.

How the two connections work
- Source to neck loop: A compatible phone or other Bluetooth audio source pairs with the neck loop and sends it audio.
- Neck loop to hearing instrument: The loop converts that audio into a magnetic induction signal. A telecoil in the hearing aid or cochlear implant processor receives the signal and turns it into sound.
- Listening mode: The wearer selects the telecoil or T setting when the instrument requires it. The precise control or activation process depends on the hearing instrument.
So “Bluetooth” describes the link to the neck loop; the loop-to-hearing-instrument link is magnetic induction, not Bluetooth. The BT hearing-access guide illustrates this phone-to-Bluetooth-neck-loop-to-T-setting arrangement, but its broad compatibility wording should not be treated as a guarantee for every current device.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What you can connect it to
Depending on the model and setup, a Bluetooth neck loop may receive audio from a phone for calls or media. A standard neckloop may also connect to an assistive listening receiver or another audio device, then deliver that audio inductively to a telecoil. The Center for Hearing Access guide to neckloops describes these receiver connections and cautions that the neckloop and receiver must be matched; a plug fitting physically does not by itself establish that the combination will work properly.
Check the specific neck loop’s documentation for supported Bluetooth sources and uses, as well as the connectors and audio characteristics required if you plan to use a separate FM/RF, infrared, or other assistive listening receiver.

What to check for compatibility
- Telecoil: Confirm that the hearing aid or cochlear implant processor has a telecoil. Not every instrument includes one.
- Activation and selection: Find out whether the telecoil must be enabled, programmed, or selected with a T setting. An audiologist or hearing-care provider can help confirm this.
- Bluetooth pairing: Check that the neck loop pairs with your particular phone or audio source and supports the intended use, such as calls or media.
- Receiver match: If using a separate assistive listening receiver, verify that its connection and audio output are compatible with the neck loop.
Compatibility depends on the particular source, neck loop, any receiver in the chain, and hearing instrument. Check the full combination rather than assuming that a Bluetooth connection alone guarantees hearing-aid compatibility.

How it differs from Auracast
A Bluetooth neck loop uses Bluetooth to receive audio at the loop, then relies on magnetic induction and a telecoil for the final connection to the hearing instrument. Auracast is a separate Bluetooth-based broadcast audio approach described by the Bluetooth SIG. They are not the same connection method, and a telecoil neck loop should not be assumed to receive an Auracast broadcast directly.
