Hyperledger Foundation’s February 8, 2023 webinar presented IPwe’s Smart Intangible Asset Management (SIAM) as software for analyzing and managing intellectual-property portfolios, with tools for patent valuation benchmarks, competitor analysis, financial projections, and transaction opportunities. The session included a live demonstration, but its event description and company announcements document what was presented and claimed—not independent proof of valuation accuracy, realized returns, or current product availability.
What the February 2023 webinar covered
The on-demand event page records the webinar as taking place on February 8, 2023, with IPwe President Leann Pinto as a featured speaker. Hyperledger Foundation described a live demonstration and framed the central question as how SIAM could help businesses maximize the value of intangible assets. Its listed subjects included patent valuation benchmarks, competitive analysis reports, projections of portfolio financial performance, revenue-generation opportunities, and patent NFTs for patent-data management and storage. Hyperledger Foundation’s event page and on-demand listing establish the agenda and date, not the effectiveness of the features.
What SIAM was presented as doing
IPwe’s January 18, 2023 launch announcement described SIAM as a SaaS solution for IP management, valuation, and transactions. The company said it combined Clarivate patent datasets with IPwe’s valuation algorithm and AI. In the webinar framing, the practical purpose was to make portfolio information more useful for business decisions: compare patents or portfolios against benchmarks, examine competitors, project potential financial performance, and identify possible routes to revenue. IPwe’s launch announcement is the company’s description of its product and method, not an independent evaluation.

A reader assessing any portfolio valuation should ask how the data and assumptions are selected, how uncertainty is communicated, and whether a modeled figure is supported by relevant market transactions.

How Clarivate data and IPfolio fit into the announcements
Clarivate announced a strategic partnership with IPwe in November 2022, describing plans to supply curated patent data for IPwe’s AI, predictive analytics, and blockchain platform. In May 2023, Clarivate announced SIAM’s integration into IPfolio, describing access to patent-level and portfolio-level financial benchmarks as well as competitor and peer-portfolio metrics. These are dated announcements by the companies involved; they do not establish whether the integration or service remains available in the same form today.

For evaluating an IP analytics product, these announcements point to useful questions: what data sources are included and how current are they; can a user distinguish patent-level from portfolio-level analysis; are competitor and peer comparisons transparent; and do the tools connect to the organization’s licensing or transaction workflows? The available materials do not provide a neutral comparison that ranks SIAM against other offerings.

What the patent NFTs and blockchain were said to do
In a February 2, 2023 announcement, Hyperledger Foundation said IPwe had deployed 25 million patent NFTs alongside the SIAM launch. It described a hybrid architecture involving permissioned Hyperledger Fabric and the public Casper blockchain. Webinar slides characterized IPwe Digital Assets as dynamic NFTs that encapsulate information about intellectual property on a blockchain. These scale and architecture details are claims in the announcement and presentation; the count is not independently audited in the available materials.

The announcement presented the hybrid approach as combining a consortium ledger with public verifiability and access. That description should be kept separate from legal conclusions. A ledger can record or aggregate information, but a blockchain entry by itself does not establish who legally owns a patent, whether it is valid or enforceable, or what it could sell for. The announcement’s further claims about transaction speed, verified ownership, valuation quality, and market impact are promotional claims rather than independently validated findings. Hyperledger Foundation’s announcement describes the deployment and its stated rationale.

How to interpret the market-scale figures
The same February 2023 Hyperledger Foundation announcement cited figures including intangible assets representing 90% of S&P 500 value, approximately 25 million active patents worldwide, more than $1 trillion in annual lost IP opportunities, and approximately 95% of IP assets not transacted or commercialized. Those numbers should be treated as figures the announcement cited, not as independently confirmed measurements: the available materials do not establish their underlying definitions or verify the cited source data.
Likewise, the product and event descriptions do not provide controlled tests, algorithm-accuracy benchmarks, independently verified customer outcomes, or comparative performance evidence. The webinar is useful for understanding how IPwe and Hyperledger framed SIAM in 2023; it is not evidence of present-day performance or present availability.

What remains uncertain today
The relevant announcements and event materials date from 2022 and 2023. They establish the historical product positioning, data relationship, and described architecture, but do not establish SIAM’s current availability, pricing, onboarding process, present Clarivate integration status, or current performance. Anyone considering a current deployment would need confirmation from the companies on those points and should assess data provenance, valuation-method explainability and uncertainty, privacy and security design, and fit with internal workflows.
