iOS 27 adds four distinct Home app camera and notification capabilities: Apple Intelligence can group related accessory alerts into an updating activity, describe recorded clips from compatible cameras, help you find recordings with natural-language searches, and surface noteworthy clips in Search. Separately, supported HomeKit Secure Video cameras can stream and record in 4K. These features have different requirements, and none means every camera or household setup supports all of them.
What changes in the iOS 27 Home app?
The new capabilities address two different tasks: making Home alerts easier to follow and making recorded camera footage easier to review. Apple Intelligence powers the notification grouping and camera descriptions and search; 4K is a camera capability Apple lists separately.
- Activity notifications: Related accessory notifications can be grouped into one activity that updates as it continues.
- Video descriptions: Apple Intelligence can generate text describing events in recorded footage from compatible Home cameras.
- AI clip search: Search recordings using natural language or describe what happened in the footage.
- 4K video: Supported HomeKit Secure Video cameras can stream and record in 4K.
Apple announced these features in 2026. Their availability depends on the feature, device, camera, language and region; check Apple’s iOS 27 feature page and current Home camera support guide for applicable requirements.
How do Home activity notifications work?
When related accessory alerts occur, Apple Intelligence can combine them into one notification that updates as the activity unfolds. Apple gives repeated locking and unlocking as an example. The aim is to present a continuing event together rather than as a string of similar alerts; Apple does not provide a measured reduction in notifications.

- Premium, immersive, high-fidelity audio
To control this setting, open Home, go to Home Settings > Apple Intelligence, then turn Reduce Notifications on or off. Apple says notification grouping requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad and a home hub. Location Services must be enabled for Home and accessories.
How do video descriptions and AI clip search help?
Descriptions summarize recorded clips
For compatible Home cameras, Apple Intelligence analyzes recorded footage and produces text describing what happened. This can help you understand a sequence of clips without opening and watching each one. A description is an AI-generated summary, not independent confirmation of every detail in a recording.
Search recordings by what happened
Instead of locating a clip only by date or camera, you can search recordings with a natural-language description of the event—for example, finding footage of a package delivery. Apple’s WWDC26 presentation also describes connecting relevant footage across cameras and surfacing noteworthy clips at the top of Search before a query is entered. Apple has not published accuracy or performance measurements for these capabilities.

- Features a 4" high-excursion woofer and five beamforming tweeters for deep bass, clear vocals, and detailed room-filling audio.
- Room Sensing technology automatically adjusts sound based on where the speaker is placed.
- Built-in Siri enables voice control for music, reminders, messages, smart home devices, and more.
- Supports AirPlay, Spatial Audio, Thread, Matter smart home control, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi 4.
- Pair two HomePod speakers for stereo sound or use multiple units for whole-home audio playback.
Turn descriptions on or off
- Open the Home app.
- Open Home Settings and turn on Apple Intelligence.
- Enable or disable descriptions for each camera in its settings.
Apple’s support guide documents these controls and prerequisites. Camera descriptions and search concern recorded footage from compatible cameras; they are not a guarantee that every camera can be analyzed.
What does 4K recording mean for Home cameras?
Apple says supported HomeKit Secure Video cameras can stream and record in 4K. This is a resolution capability, not a claim that every HomeKit camera supports 4K or that all recordings will have identical image quality in every condition. Apple’s reviewed materials do not identify which camera models support 4K, so check the manufacturer’s documentation for the exact model before buying or relying on that capability.
4K support and Apple Intelligence camera features are separate questions. For a prospective setup, verify HomeKit Secure Video compatibility and explicit 4K streaming and recording support for the camera, then check the hub, device and subscription requirements for the AI features.

- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
- Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
What do you need to use the camera AI features?
Apple’s current iPhone support guide lists these requirements for camera descriptions:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- A home hub such as HomePod (2nd generation), HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K, running the latest operating system.
- An Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone owned by the home owner. Apple’s iOS 27 requirements name iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later.
- Apple Intelligence enabled in Home.
- A 2TB iCloud+ plan, as specified in the current support guide.
Apple’s September 2026 availability announcement describes the subscription requirement as an eligible iCloud+ plan, while its support guide specifies 2TB. Because Apple’s wording differs, confirm the current requirement for your account and region in Apple’s support information before changing plans. The announcement also says notification grouping needs an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad and a home hub, plus Location Services for Home and accessories.
Apple lists Apple Intelligence support for English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Features and device availability can vary by language and region, so inclusion on the language list does not by itself guarantee availability in every location.
Which setup should you check first?
- For grouped alerts: Check for an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, a supported home hub and Location Services for Home and accessories.
- For descriptions or clip search: Check the iPhone, hub, Home Apple Intelligence setting and iCloud+ requirement, then confirm that the camera is compatible.
- For 4K: Confirm that the exact camera model explicitly supports HomeKit Secure Video and 4K streaming and recording. Apple has not provided a model list in the cited feature materials.
- For any feature: Check current regional and language availability and ensure the relevant devices are running the required current software.
Apple’s official announcements explain what the features are intended to do, but do not establish model-by-model 4K compatibility, AI accuracy, or performance for a particular household. See Apple’s June 2026 announcement, September 2026 availability announcement, and WWDC26 Home presentation for Apple’s descriptions of the features.
