The available sources do not confirm what happens when you release an animal in Planet Zoo 2. They do not establish whether the animal leaves your zoo, whether you receive a reward, or whether the action has eligibility requirements. What is confirmed about releasing animals in Planet Zoo 2?

That distinction matters: a support page about the game is not evidence for every feature in it. Planet Zoo 1 provides context, not a reliable answer for the sequel. A Steam Community guide, “Some Personal Notes on Planet Zoo,” describes a release-to-wild option that can award Conservation Credits and notes age and health restrictions. Those details apply to the first game as described by that community guide; they should not be presented as Planet Zoo 2 rules.

The distinction is especially important if you are deciding whether to release an animal for a reward. The available sources do not establish that Planet Zoo 2 uses Conservation Credits for this action—or that the sequel’s release action works like its predecessor’s. Do not assume that a reward, eligibility rule, or animal disposition carries over between games.
Can an animal fail to release?
Players of the first Planet Zoo have reported cases where confirming a release did not remove an animal from storage or award credits. In a Steam discussion titled “sometimes can’t release animal to wild?”, replies speculate about possible conditions such as pregnancy or injury. The discussion does not establish a general cause, and these are anecdotal reports about Planet Zoo 1—not evidence of a Planet Zoo 2 bug or restriction.

So if you encounter a failed release in Planet Zoo 2, those older reports do not tell you why it happened or how to fix it. Look first at the exact message the game displays, if any, and avoid assuming that a condition mentioned in a first-game discussion applies to the sequel.

Until an official Planet Zoo 2 guide, patch note, or in-game reference explains the action, use what the game itself displays as your evidence. Before confirming a release, read the action label and any confirmation text carefully. Afterward, check whether the animal’s status or location changed and whether the game reports a reward. These checks can tell you what happened in your current situation, but they do not by themselves establish a universal rule for every animal or save.

- Look for an explicit outcome: A message that names a reward or says what will happen to the animal is more useful than assuming the sequel follows Planet Zoo 1.
- Record the conditions shown: If the action is unavailable or fails, note the game’s displayed explanation rather than importing an age, health, pregnancy, or injury rule from a first-game guide.
- Use current sequel documentation for general rules: A Planet Zoo 2-specific official guide or patch note would be stronger evidence than community material about the original game.

A definitive answer needs a Planet Zoo 2 source that describes the release action itself: an official guide, a relevant patch note, or clear in-game documentation. To explain the mechanic fully, that source would need to identify what happens to the animal, whether a reward is granted, any eligibility conditions, and whether the action can be reversed. The sources currently available here do not provide those details.
