When the scheduled iPhone Duo promotion ends, Verizon removes the monthly promotional credit. If the phone’s installment agreement reaches its final payment at the same time, the device-payment charge disappears too. Your regular talk, text and data plan, taxes, surcharges and optional add-ons continue.

The result is usually a lower bill, not a bill with the phone suddenly charged at full retail price. The exception is an early stop: canceling the line, moving to an ineligible plan, paying off the device or upgrading before the term ends can forfeit future credits while leaving the unpaid device balance due.

What changes on the first bill after the promotion ends?

A Verizon device promotion normally applies a monthly credit to offset the phone’s installment charge over a fixed promotional term, often 36 months. At the normal end of that term, two matching lines disappear:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • The monthly Device Promo credit ends.
  • The monthly device-payment installment ends because the device has been paid off.

Your service does not end. Verizon says you continue paying for talk, text and data, along with applicable taxes, regulatory or governmental charges, surcharges and any add-ons such as insurance, perks or international features. In other words, the post-promotion bill is generally your service bill without a phone installment.

Do not interpret the disappearance of the credit alone as a price increase. During the promotion, the credit and installment offset each other. When both end together, the net device cost goes to zero. The line charge for wireless service remains.

Normal expiration versus an early loss of credits

The same credit line can disappear for very different reasons. Identify which situation applies before estimating your next bill.

Normal end of the agreed term

If every required payment has been made and the promotional term reaches its scheduled end, the device balance should be zero. The installment and its associated credit end together. Verizon’s device-payment guidance describes this outcome as continuing to pay the monthly plan while no longer having a device-payment charge.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Canceling the promoted line

Canceling the line tied to the offer generally ends eligibility for remaining monthly credits. The phone’s unpaid installment balance does not vanish. Verizon can bill that balance, often on the final bill, under the separate Device Payment Agreement.

Changing to a nonqualifying plan

Promotional terms specify which plans qualify. Verizon’s Simplicity terms state that losing eligibility ends monthly promotional credits, while the device-payment agreement remains a separate installment obligation. A cheaper or otherwise different plan can therefore reduce service costs but increase the immediate net bill by removing the credit.

Paying the phone off early

Verizon’s device-payment FAQ says that when you pay off a device, monthly promotional credits for that device stop. Paying the remaining principal can remove the future installment, but it does not convert the remaining credits into a lump-sum discount. The payoff amount and the forfeited future credits are separate consequences.

Upgrading before the term is complete

An early upgrade can trigger the same result as an early payoff: remaining credits stop and any unpaid device balance remains due under the agreement. Whether an upgrade program waives or pays that balance depends on the exact offer and agreement; do not assume a new phone automatically preserves the old credits.

How to read the bill after the credits stop

Open the detailed bill in My Verizon rather than relying only on the total shown on the account overview. Check each of these lines:

  1. Device payment: Confirm whether the installment charge is gone. If it remains, look for a remaining balance or an early-termination event.
  2. Device Promo: Verify whether the credit ended because the term completed or because eligibility changed. A missing credit with an outstanding installment is an early-stop warning.
  3. Plan and line charges: These are the recurring wireless-service costs that continue after the phone is paid off.
  4. Taxes and surcharges: These vary by service and location and can change even when the device lines are unchanged.
  5. Perks and add-ons: Insurance, premium data features, streaming bundles and other optional services remain unless you remove them.
  6. One-time charges: An early payoff, activation, upgrade or other account event can appear separately from recurring monthly charges.

Verizon categorizes plan charges, device payments and credits as recurring items. A one-time payoff can therefore make a final or transition bill look much larger than a normal post-promotion bill.

Why the amount may not change when you expect

Credits can post late

Verizon says promotional credits usually appear within one or two billing periods. Its general bill guidance notes that some promotions can take two or three periods. If the first bill after activation or a qualifying change does not show a credit, a later statement may include a catch-up credit for the missed months.

The reverse can happen at the end: a credit may appear one final time because of billing-cycle timing, then disappear on the following statement. Compare the service dates and the promotion’s term dates before treating a one-month difference as an error.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Billing-cycle timing

Verizon bills service by a cycle, while a device promotion has its own start and end dates. If the term ends partway through a cycle, the first bill without the credit may not align exactly with the calendar month in which you made the final device payment. Use the installment schedule and the bill’s service-period dates together.

Plan or account changes

A plan change, line transfer, suspension, return, insurance claim or other account modification can affect eligibility. If a credit disappears before the advertised end date, check the promotion’s conditions and the date of the account change instead of assuming Verizon simply stopped billing the discount.

Does the bill become the phone’s full retail price?

Usually, no. During a normal completion, the phone has been paid through the installment schedule, and both the installment and offsetting credit end. You do not begin paying a new full-price phone charge after the promotion.

Early termination is different. If credits stop while installments remain, you can owe the outstanding device balance. That balance represents the unpaid portion of the original device agreement, not a new monthly retail-price charge. Your final bill can therefore be higher even though the promotional credit has disappeared.

Use the net-cost calculation

To evaluate the offer, calculate the device cost over the entire required term:

Total device installments − total promotional credits + any required upfront amount or one-time device charge

Then separately calculate the continuing service cost. A headline bundle price combines service and device economics for a particular offer; it is not the amount you will necessarily pay after credits end.

What the iPhone Duo launch price does—and does not—tell you

TechRadar reported on October 17, 2026, that Verizon’s opening iPhone Duo offer bundled the device and an unlimited plan for $72.22 per month and included additional device credit. That was an offer snapshot, not a universal post-credit bill.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Your actual amount depends on the exact agreement: the selected plan, number of lines, trade-in conditions, taxes, surcharges, financing term, optional services and whether the promotion was available in your region. Treat the advertised bundle figure as a starting point for that specific offer, not as the amount that remains after the promotional term.

Taxes and surcharges can still move the total

Device credits generally offset eligible device charges; they do not erase taxes and governmental fees on wireless service. Verizon’s customer agreement says that, as of August 1, 2025, listed surcharges and governmental charges could add between 15% and 50% to standard monthly access and other charges, depending on the service and location.

That range is not a promise that every customer pays the same percentage. Your jurisdiction, services and account configuration determine the actual amount. A bill can therefore rise or fall after a promotion ends even when the base plan price is unchanged.

Step-by-step: verify that the promotion ended correctly

  1. Find the promotion’s end date. Review the order confirmation, device agreement or promotion details for the number of credited months.
  2. Confirm the final installment. In My Verizon, open the device section and check the remaining balance and payment history.
  3. Compare two consecutive bills. Note the last month containing “Device Promo” and the first month without it.
  4. Check the installment line. It should disappear when the device reaches a zero balance at the normal term end.
  5. Separate recurring and one-time items. A payoff, upgrade or activation fee can distort the first transition bill.
  6. Review plan eligibility. If the credit stopped early, identify any plan change, line cancellation or upgrade that occurred before the end date.
  7. Allow for a catch-up period. If credits were delayed, look for a later adjustment within Verizon’s stated one-to-three-billing-period window.
  8. Contact Verizon with the agreement details. Provide the device identifier, promotion name, term dates and the specific bill line that differs from the agreement.

How to compare staying, changing plans or leaving

Before changing the account, compare the following figures from your agreement and current bill:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Decision factor Why it matters What to verify
Net device cost A large credit can make the device appear free only while all conditions are met. Total installments minus every scheduled credit over the full term.
Regular service price The wireless plan continues after the phone is paid off. Base access charge for each line, before taxes and add-ons.
Eligibility requirements A plan change can end credits. Qualifying plan, line status, trade-in and other offer conditions.
Balance if you leave or upgrade Early departure can make the remaining device balance due. Current payoff amount and whether future credits are forfeited.
Upgrade flexibility Upgrading early may stop the old promotion. Required payments, return rules and treatment of the unpaid balance.
Taxes and surcharges These continue independently of device credits. Location-specific charges shown on your detailed bill.

Make the comparison using the cost over the remaining months, not just the next bill. A plan that saves a small amount each month can be more expensive if it causes a large device payoff or forfeits substantial future credits.

Common bill surprises and what they mean

The credit is gone, but the installment remains

This usually indicates an early eligibility loss, an account change or a posting problem. Check the promotion terms and account timeline. Do not assume the phone is paid off merely because the credit disappeared.

The installment is gone, but the credit appears once more

Billing-cycle timing or a catch-up adjustment can create a final credit after the last installment. Check the service dates and wait for the next statement before concluding that the account is misbilled.

The total barely falls

The device payment may have been a small portion of the bill compared with the plan, taxes, surcharges and add-ons. Remove optional services you no longer want and inspect location-based charges separately from the ended promotion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The final bill is unusually high

Look for an early payoff, upgrade charge, equipment balance, prorated service, returned-payment fee or other one-time item. These are not the normal recurring post-promotion charges.

What to keep for your records

  • The original order confirmation and promotion terms.
  • The Device Payment Agreement and its scheduled term.
  • Screenshots or downloaded copies of bills showing each promotional credit.
  • Dates of plan changes, line cancellations, upgrades and device payoffs.
  • Chat or support reference numbers if Verizon adjusts a missing or incorrect credit.

Keeping those records lets you distinguish a normal end-of-term change from a credit that stopped prematurely and gives support the information needed to review the account.

Bottom line for your next Verizon bill

At the scheduled end of the iPhone Duo promotion, expect the Device Promo credit and the device installment to disappear together. The wireless plan, taxes, surcharges and add-ons remain. If the credit ends before the phone is fully paid, the credit can vanish while the remaining device balance becomes due. Check the detailed My Verizon bill, the agreement’s term dates and any account changes before deciding whether the amount is correct.
