Canceling an Xfinity Mobile line that is receiving monthly device credits stops any credits that have not yet posted. You still owe the phone’s unpaid installment balance. Whether Xfinity lets you continue installments or bills the whole balance at once depends on whether you keep qualifying Xfinity services. If you port your number, leave the line active until the new carrier completes the transfer; a manual cancellation first can stop the port.
Your exact amount depends on the device payment plan, promotion type, purchase date, remaining credits, and which Xfinity services stay on the account. Check those entries before requesting disconnection rather than assuming every promotion has the same settlement rules.
What changes when you cancel the promoted line?
A device promotion and the device-payment obligation are separate items on your bill. The promotion reduces selected monthly installments; it does not erase the underlying installment contract.

- The unpaid device balance remains your responsibility. Credits already applied do not convert into a payoff of the remaining installments.
- Paying the device early also ends the credits. An additional payment that pays off the phone makes the line ineligible for further promotional credits.
- The promotion’s own terms control exceptions. Trade-in and other offers can use different settlement language from a standard monthly device-credit offer.
For example, if a phone has 18 promotional credits left, canceling does not turn those 18 credits into cash. They simply stop, while the balance shown under the device payment plan remains to be paid under the applicable cancellation rules.

Will Xfinity demand the entire phone balance immediately?
Not in every situation. Xfinity’s cancellation guidance distinguishes between leaving mobile while retaining other Xfinity services and ending the entire Xfinity relationship.

The key qualification is service retention: the support guidance allows continued installments when Xfinity Internet, TV, or Voice remains. Do not assume that every mobile-line cancellation accelerates the entire balance, and do not assume that keeping only an unrelated service will produce the same result as keeping a qualifying service.
How the final bill works
Xfinity makes the final bill available online on your normal billing date. Review the disconnect date, final balance, automatic-payment date if enabled, payment method, and instructions for making an early payment. Save a copy of the bill because the account may be harder to access after all services are closed.

Which promotion rules apply to your phone?
“Promotion” can describe several different offers. Identify the offer attached to your order before calculating what you will owe.
Standard monthly device credits
These offers show a recurring credit alongside the device installment. The bill guide identifies the promotion credit, credits remaining, promotion end date, payments left on the device plan, and device-plan balance. Losing the line ends the recurring credit; the installment contract still determines what happens to the unpaid balance.
Trade-in promotions with a 36-month period
The trade-in terms applicable to orders after April 22, 2026 use a 36-month promotional-credit period for the specified Xfinity Mobile and Mobile Plus offers. Those terms require continuous Xfinity Mobile service and maintenance of the new device payment schedule for the full period to receive the maximum credit.
Those same terms include a special early-cancellation provision: if service ends before the minimum credit amount is reached, the customer receives a check for the minimum amount minus credits already received. The amount of the minimum and the qualifying requirements come from the particular offer. This provision should not be generalized to phones purchased under a different promotion or purchase cohort.

Installment agreements by purchase date
Xfinity’s policy index lists a separate device-payment-plan agreement for orders after December 3, 2025. The older installment agreement covering orders before that date says credits stop after early prepayment, cancellation of the associated line, failure to activate or transfer within 30 days, or involuntary disconnection.
If your order was placed after December 3, 2025, use the agreement displayed in your account or order paperwork. The older clause is not automatically the contract for a newer purchase. Your promotion’s offer page and the device agreement together determine eligibility, timing, and any settlement payment.
What if you drop Xfinity Internet but keep Mobile?
Removing bundled home service is different from canceling the mobile line. Your phone can remain active, but the monthly service price may change.

Xfinity Internet, TV, and Voice can qualify as retained services for avoiding the older standalone fees. Xfinity Home does not qualify for that purpose. Because plan migration changes which rule applies, check your plan vintage and current plan name before canceling Internet.

How to leave without losing your number
If you are switching carriers, do not cancel the Xfinity line manually first. The number transfer itself is the cancellation trigger.
- Inventory the account. Open your current Xfinity bill in the app or online account and record the device-payment balance, payments left, credits remaining, promotion end date, plan type, and any automatic payment.
- Read the offer terms. Determine whether the phone uses standard monthly credits, a trade-in offer, Mobile Plus, or another promotion. Match the terms to the device purchase date, especially the December 3, 2025 installment-agreement boundary and the April 22, 2026 trade-in terms.
- Decide which Xfinity services will remain. Keeping Internet, TV, or Voice can affect installment eligibility. Removing Internet can also remove a discount or add a standalone fee.
- Ask about unlocking and payoff. Xfinity’s cancellation instructions offer paying off the device and then contacting Xfinity to unlock it. A phone that is not unlocked may not work on the new carrier even after the number ports.
- Start the port with the new carrier. Provide the account information requested by that carrier and keep the Xfinity line active while the transfer is pending.
- Confirm completion before removing service. Xfinity says a completed transfer automatically cancels that line. Canceling first stops the transfer, which can put the number at risk.
- Reconcile the final bill. Check that the disconnect date, prorated Unlimited charges where applicable, device balance, and any service-price change match what you expected. Keep the confirmation and payment receipt.
Stay, port out, or keep Mobile after dropping home service?
The practical choice depends on whether the remaining credits are worth more than the cost of staying and whether you need the phone immediately unlocked.

Common mistakes that increase the bill
Canceling before checking credits remaining
A promotion’s end date does not tell you the payoff amount. The bill’s device section contains both the remaining credit count and the separate device-plan balance. Capture those figures before making a change.

Assuming a trade-in promise applies to every phone
The 36-month trade-in terms and minimum-credit check provision apply to the specified orders after April 22, 2026. A different order date, offer, or device can have different requirements.

Dropping Internet without pricing the mobile account
The $10 discount removal and $25 standalone fees are plan- and purchase-cohort-specific. Calculate the new recurring mobile charge before canceling home service.
Requesting a mobile disconnect before the number ports
Xfinity warns that canceling first stops the transfer. Let the new provider confirm completion, then verify that Xfinity closed only the intended line.
Forgetting automatic payments
The final bill can have an automatic-payment date even after you stop using the line. Check the payment method and final balance so an expected device charge is not mistaken for an unauthorized debit.

What you can determine before calling Xfinity
- The device’s current installment balance and payments remaining.
- The number of promotional credits already posted and still available.
- The promotion end date and the order date that determines which agreement applies.
- Whether the offer is a standard credit, trade-in, Mobile Plus, or another promotion.
- Which Xfinity services will remain after the change.
- Whether your data plan is Unlimited or By the Gig for final-bill proration.
- Whether the phone must be paid off before Xfinity will unlock it.
Those details let support explain the account-specific payoff and recurring-charge changes without relying on a generic promotion summary. Because no universal final amount exists, the final bill and the agreement attached to your order are the authoritative figures for your account.
