Your OneDrive files are not automatically deleted because the iPhone app is no longer supported. Files stored in your OneDrive account are separate from the app on your phone. Microsoft documents browser access as an alternative, but it does not specify exactly how an already-installed app will behave after the iPhone’s iOS version falls below the current minimum.
Will I lose my OneDrive files if the app is no longer supported?
No. An app support cutoff and deletion of files in your cloud account are different events. Microsoft describes deleting a OneDrive file as an explicit action; its iOS requirements do not say that files are automatically erased when an iPhone can no longer run a supported app.
Microsoft’s system requirements page, last updated June 23, 2026, lists iOS 18.0 or later for the OneDrive mobile app. It warns that on an iOS version below the minimum, you “may only be able to update the OneDrive app.” That is a support requirement, not a detailed schedule for disabling older installations. Yes. Microsoft lists a web browser as an alternative to the app and recommends a current version of Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. Sign in to OneDrive on the web to check your cloud files. Before access to the older app becomes uncertain, verify that important files appear in your OneDrive account in a supported browser or on another supported device. This checks the cloud copies rather than relying on files that may only be saved on the iPhone.
What happens to OneDrive files saved offline?
Offline files are device copies intended for access without an internet connection; they are distinct from the files in your cloud account. Microsoft says files and folders saved offline remain on the device after you sign out of OneDrive. It also says offline edits sync the next time the device connects to the internet. - While the app still works, mark files you need without a connection as available offline.
- Check that each file has downloaded before relying on it away from a connection.
- Reconnect to the internet after editing so OneDrive can sync the changes.
On iOS, making an entire folder available offline is limited to Premium OneDrive with a Microsoft 365 subscription, according to Microsoft’s offline-file guidance. This limitation applies to that folder feature; it is not a requirement for ordinary web access.

Does deleting the OneDrive app delete my files?
Removing the app or signing out is not the same as deleting files from OneDrive. Microsoft says removing an account does not lose files or folders and that they remain available on the web after sign-out. Its iPhone storage guidance also describes Apple’s Offload App function as keeping the app’s documents and data, but that statement should not be treated as a guarantee about every removal method or every cached offline file. By contrast, deleting a file inside OneDrive removes it from the cloud account and sends it to the OneDrive recycle bin, where it may be restored. Deleting it from the recycle bin removes it permanently. What to do if the app stops working
- Check your cloud copies: Sign in to OneDrive in a supported browser and confirm that important files are present.
- Keep needed offline files accessible: If the app still opens, download files for offline use and allow offline edits to sync after reconnecting.
- Use web access or another supported device: Do not count on an unsupported app continuing to sign in or sync.
