Failing to extract in ARC Raiders can cost the equipment you carried and the loot you collected. On elimination, the official guide says all carried equipment is lost except items in Safe Pocket slots. Items found during the match are kept only if you make it out alive, and Embark says tracked quest progress may also be lost when extraction fails.
“Abandon a quest” is ambiguous. Giving up on the raid or dying is covered by the extraction rules above. Cancelling an individual quest from a menu is a separate case, and the official material available does not specify what happens to that quest’s progress, items, or future availability. An Expedition is different again: it is a voluntary, broad character reset after a separate project.
Three different actions are often called “abandoning”
The consequences depend on which action you mean. ARC Raiders has a meaningful distinction between ending a raid unsuccessfully, cancelling a quest entry, and voluntarily starting an Expedition reset.

This table is the safe way to read the available guidance: only the first two rows describe ordinary raid failure, while the third has an evidence gap and the fourth is an opt-in progression system.

What you lose when you are eliminated
Carried equipment is lost outside the Safe Pocket
The official guide’s explicit rule is that elimination costs all carried equipment except items placed in Safe Pocket slots. “Carried equipment” is the important scope: weapons, armor, consumables, and other gear you took into the raid should be treated as expendable once your character is eliminated. Safe Pocket items are the stated exception.
Do not extend that exception automatically to every quest objective or every type of failure. The guide identifies Safe Pocket protection in the context of equipment lost on elimination. It does not promise that a quest item, a progress flag, or a particular objective will always survive a failed extraction simply because it was stored in a Safe Pocket.
Raid loot is conditional on getting out alive
The same guide frames successful extraction as the condition for keeping items collected during a match. In practical terms, finding a valuable component is not the same as securing it: the run has to end with your character alive and extracted before that loot is safely retained.
That rule matters even when the item was picked up for a quest. A quest-related object found during the current raid should not be treated as delivered or permanently banked until the game accepts the successful extraction. The official guidance does not provide a blanket guarantee for every quest-item type, so use the extraction requirement rather than assuming pickup alone completes the job.

There is no official percentage for how much is lost
The published guidance gives categorical rules and warnings, not a loss-rate statistic. It does not state that a fixed percentage of gear disappears, nor does it provide a universal list of which quest objectives reset after every death. Any claim that a specific percentage or every objective is always lost goes beyond the documented information.
What failed extraction does to quest progress
Read the progress bar as a warning, not a promise of a full reset
Embark’s Patch Notes 1.22.0 state: “Progress bars now indicate what progress may be lost if you fail to extract.” The wording is deliberately qualified. A bar identifies progress that is vulnerable to an unsuccessful extraction; it does not establish that every quest, every objective, or every point of progress will reset in every failure case.
Before committing to a dangerous objective, inspect which tracked bars are marked as vulnerable. This is the most specific in-game signal described by the official patch note. If a bar does not indicate loss, the note still should not be read as a guarantee that all other quest-state behavior is documented; it only explains what the bars are intended to communicate.

The guide’s equipment rule is written around elimination, while the patch note discusses failing to extract. A run can therefore involve two questions: whether your character was eliminated and whether the extraction condition was met. Use the elimination rule for carried equipment and the patch-note warning for quest progress. Do not merge them into an unsupported claim that every failed extraction always deletes every item and every quest step.

What a successful extraction establishes
The guide supports one clear conclusion: making it out alive is the condition for keeping items collected during the match. It does not say that extraction automatically completes every quest objective, awards every reward immediately, or protects progress that was never registered by the game. A successful exit secures the raid’s collected items; quest completion still depends on the objective and the game’s normal tracking state.
What to do after losing a loadout
Use a free loadout when you need an immediate replacement
The official Nexon gameplay FAQ recommends using a free loadout after equipment is lost. This is a way to return to the game without first rebuilding a complete paid or carefully assembled kit. The FAQ presents it as a recovery option, not as a restoration of the exact weapons, armor, or attachments that were lost.
Use Scrappy as the other documented recovery route
The same FAQ points to Scrappy, an in-game companion described as collecting items. Scrappy is therefore another way to gather replacement resources after a bad run. The source does not describe Scrappy as an insurance system, an automatic refund, or a tool that recreates your previous inventory. Expect replacement assistance rather than recovery of the original loadout.

- Confirm what actually happened. Separate elimination from a failed extraction and note whether the item was in a Safe Pocket slot. The documented Safe Pocket exception applies to equipment lost on elimination.
- Check the quest tracker. Look for progress bars that indicate possible loss. Record which objective changed instead of assuming the whole quest restarted.
- Choose the lowest-risk replacement path. Start with the free loadout or Scrappy option identified in the official FAQ if your inventory cannot support another conventional run.
- Rebuild only what the next objective requires. Since the sources do not promise restoration of the old kit, avoid treating replacement gear as a refund or as proof that the prior items were recovered.
- Extract deliberately on the next attempt. The guide’s loot rule makes the successful exit the critical point at which newly collected raid items are retained.
What if you mean the “Abandon” or “Cancel” button on a quest?
The official sources available for this question do not explain the consequences of cancelling an individual quest from a menu. They do not establish whether partial progress is deleted, whether collected quest items remain in storage, whether the quest returns to a pool, or whether it becomes available again later.

Those unknowns are separate from the documented death and extraction rules. It would be incorrect to infer that pressing a menu-level abandon option deletes your loadout, because the equipment rule is specifically tied to elimination and the extraction guidance is about raid outcomes. It would be equally incorrect to promise that a cancelled quest keeps its progress just because you did not die.
How to handle an undocumented menu action
- Read the confirmation dialog and any warning about progress or rewards before accepting it.
- Capture the quest’s current objective state if the progress is important to you.
- Do not deliberately cancel a quest while carrying irreplaceable materials unless the game clearly states what will happen.
- If the dialog is silent, treat the result as unknown rather than applying the Safe Pocket or failed-extraction rules to it.
These precautions do not create a hidden rule; they prevent a menu action from being mistaken for a raid failure whose behavior is documented.

An Expedition should not be confused with failing a quest, dying, or leaving a raid. In Embark’s “Expedition Project” article dated October 9, 2025, an Expedition is described as a voluntary character reset that follows completion of a separate project.

Completing that reset removes much broader categories of progression than an ordinary failed raid: levels, skills, items and inventory, workshop progress, and crafting capabilities are listed as losses. This is a deliberate account-progression decision, not an accidental penalty for missing an extraction.

“Players who have less time to dedicate to the game don’t have their progress reset outside of their control.”
That statement explains the design boundary: the reset is intended to happen through the player’s choice to complete the Expedition project, rather than being triggered unexpectedly by an ordinary quest failure. If you are deciding whether to start one, evaluate it as a full progression reset; do not use the raid-death rules to estimate its consequences.
Examples of the rules in practice
You die with a rifle and materials outside the Safe Pocket
Under the guide’s elimination rule, the carried rifle and those materials are lost. Any item in a Safe Pocket is covered by the stated exception. If the materials were collected during that match, the guide’s extraction condition also means they were not secured by a successful exit.

You reach an objective but fail to extract
The objective’s tracked progress may be lost if its progress bar identifies that risk, because that is what Patch Notes 1.22.0 says the bars communicate. The official wording does not justify saying that every objective in the quest resets, so check the tracker after the run.
You select a menu option labelled Abandon Quest
The available official material does not state the result. Do not assume your gear is destroyed as if you had been eliminated, and do not assume the quest is preserved. The confirmation text and the game’s resulting quest state are the relevant evidence for that action.
You complete an Expedition project
This is the broad reset case. The published Expedition explanation lists character levels, skills, inventory, workshop, and crafting capabilities among the progression that is lost. It is voluntary and distinct from an individual quest failure.
A practical checklist before you enter a risky quest
- Identify the objective type. Decide whether you are collecting an item in the current raid, delivering something already secured, or simply advancing a tracker. The extraction rule directly affects match-collected items.
- Protect only what the rules protect. Safe Pocket protection is explicitly documented for equipment lost on elimination; it is not a universal promise for every quest state.
- Read the tracker’s warning. Progress bars can indicate what may be lost if extraction fails. Treat “may” as a risk warning, not a guaranteed reset.
- Budget a replacement kit. If the run goes badly, the documented fallback is a free loadout or Scrappy, not an automatic return of the loadout you brought.
- Separate raid decisions from menu decisions. A quest-cancellation button has not been given the same published rules as elimination or failed extraction.
- Keep Expeditions in a different mental category. Starting one is a voluntary decision with character-wide consequences, not a normal death penalty.
The shortest reliable answer is therefore conditional: a failed raid can put carried gear, collected loot, and marked quest progress at risk; elimination specifically removes carried equipment except Safe Pocket items; menu-level quest abandonment is undocumented in the cited official material; and an Expedition is an optional full progression reset.
