Deleting a Chrome AI Skill removes the saved Skill from Chrome’s Skills manager, and Google’s Skills help says the action cannot be undone. A Skill is a reusable prompt or set of instructions, so the deletion removes that saved item from the interface. Google’s public documentation does not say whether deletion immediately erases every server-side copy, backup, log, or the conversation in which the Skill was created. Treat Skill deletion, Gemini Apps Activity deletion, and Chrome browsing-data deletion as separate actions.
What a Chrome AI Skill saves
A Chrome Skill is a saved prompt and instruction set that you can run again on webpages in Gemini in Chrome. When you use it, Gemini reads the active tab and applies the saved instructions to that page. The reusable item is the Skill itself; it is not a record of every page you have ever opened with it.
Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Notice lists “Instructions you provide, for example, in Gems and Skills” as information users provide to Gemini Apps. That wording establishes that the instructions are user-provided data handled by the Gemini service. It does not, by itself, specify how long every copy remains after you select Delete.

Content from an active tab is processed when you run the Skill, while the official Chrome help does not describe deletion of that page content as part of deleting the saved Skill.

What deletion does—and what Google does not promise
The documented result
Google documents a user-facing deletion control in the Skills manager. Once you use it, the Skill is removed from the list of saved Skills. Google’s Gemini Apps Skills help states: “If you delete a skill, it can’t be undone.” There is no documented restore or recycle-bin step for a deleted Skill.
The undocumented part
Google’s Chrome Skills help does not specify whether pressing Delete immediately removes every retained copy from Google’s servers, backups, diagnostic systems, security logs, or other internal storage. It also does not state that deletion removes a source conversation from which you created or saved the Skill. Therefore, the precise answer to “Does Google still have the prompt?” is not established by the public Chrome documentation: the saved Skill disappears from the manager, but the complete backend deletion timeline and scope are not stated.
That limitation is different from saying Google definitely keeps the prompt. The public material simply does not provide a Chrome-Skill-specific guarantee either way. Avoid treating the interface change as proof that every related copy has already been purged.
How to delete a Chrome Skill
Use Chrome’s Skills manager rather than trying to remove the item from a chat transcript.

- Open Ask Gemini in Chrome.
- Type
/in the prompt box to open the command menu. - Choose Browse Skills.
- Find the Skill you want to remove and open its More menu.
- Select Delete, then confirm if Chrome asks you to confirm.
You can also go directly to chrome://skills/yourSkills in the address bar. The exact menu wording can change as Google rolls the feature out, but the Skills page is the relevant management location. If the page or menu is missing, check that you are using the latest Chrome version and that Gemini in Chrome is enabled for your account.
Does deleting a Skill erase the chat where you made it?
Google’s published instructions do not answer this directly. Deleting a Skill is performed from the Skills page, not from a chat or task thread, and the documentation does not say that the originating conversation is deleted automatically.
If the prompt was created in a conversation, consider that conversation a separate record until you review it in Gemini Apps Activity. Removing the Skill from the manager therefore should not be described as a command to delete the chat. The same caution applies to responses generated when the Skill was run: no Chrome Skills document says that deleting the Skill removes those prior responses.

These controls operate at different layers. Google does not document them as cross-deleting one another.

Gemini Apps Activity
Gemini Apps Activity is a separate account-level control. Google says users can review and delete activity there. Google also notes that some chats reviewed by human reviewers and related data may be retained for up to three years. That is a general Gemini activity qualification, not a stated retention period for a deleted Chrome Skill. Do not convert the three-year figure into a Chrome Skill schedule.
Chrome browsing data
Chrome’s browsing-data settings and Google Account activity settings are separate. Clearing history, cookies, or cached files in Chrome therefore should not be presented as a way to remove a Skill from the Skills manager or erase Gemini activity. If your goal is account-level Gemini data management, use the Gemini Apps Activity controls rather than relying only on the browser’s clear-data dialog.
Chrome Skills versus Gemini Apps Skills
Google uses “Skills” for more than one interface. Chrome Skills are the saved prompts used in Gemini in Chrome and are managed through Chrome’s Skills page. A separate Gemini Apps Skills feature describes reusable custom instructions across chats and tasks. Google says that Gemini Apps version is gradually rolling out and, according to its help, is currently limited to the Gemini mobile app, Mac app, and web app.
Do not assume that instructions saved in one surface appear in the other, or that deleting one automatically deletes the other. For a Chrome Skill, start at chrome://skills/yourSkills and use the Chrome Skills manager. The Gemini Apps help page’s deletion wording is useful for the irreversibility warning, but its interface is not the Chrome interface.

Who can use the Chrome Skills feature?
Availability is still rolling out and can change. Google lists these requirements for Chrome Skills:
- A Chromebook Plus, Mac, or Windows computer.
- The latest Chrome version.
- Gemini in Chrome enabled.
- A personal Google Account.
- English (United States) language settings.
- A supported region and age.
Managed or Enterprise accounts cannot use the feature unless an administrator enables it. If you cannot find Browse Skills or the Skills page, the problem may be eligibility or rollout status rather than a deletion failure.

Remove the saved reusable prompt
Delete it from the Chrome Skills manager using the steps above. Because the action is irreversible, copy any instruction you may need later before confirming deletion.

Open Gemini Apps Activity separately and inspect the relevant dates and conversations. Delete records there only if you want them removed under that activity control. The activity interface is not documented as a Skill-management replacement, so check both locations when your objective includes the prompt and the conversation.

Check browser-local records
If you also want to remove local traces, use Chrome’s browsing-data settings and select the data categories appropriate to your situation. This step addresses browser storage and history, not the account-level Skill record or Gemini activity.
Consider organizational policy
On a managed device, an administrator may control Gemini in Chrome, retention settings, or access to deletion features. Follow your organization’s data-handling process in addition to the personal controls visible in Chrome.
How long might related data remain?
There is no published personal Chrome Skill deletion deadline in the cited Chrome help. Google’s Chrome Enterprise guidance, last updated in April 2025, says customer data collected by Chrome AI tools is generally stored for 28 days or less and that Chrome may take up to 180 days to fully remove account-tied customer data from all systems. Those figures are broad enterprise guidance, not a service-level agreement or deletion timeline for an individual’s Chrome Skill. They should not be used to predict when a personal Skill or its source chat disappears.

The distinction matters because retention can apply to different data classes. A saved instruction, a conversation, an activity record, a browser cache, and an account-linked service record are not necessarily governed by the same control or schedule. Public documentation reviewed for Chrome Skills does not map those classes to a single deletion clock.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Deleting only browser history: this does not establish that the account-level Skill or Gemini activity was deleted.
- Deleting a chat and assuming the Skill is gone: manage the Skill itself from Browse Skills or the Skills page.
- Assuming the source chat disappears with the Skill: Google has not documented that cross-deletion for Chrome Skills.
- Using the Gemini Apps Skills instructions as if they were Chrome’s menus: the products have separate interfaces and rollout scopes.
- Treating a vanished list item as proof of immediate global erasure: the manager confirms the user-facing state, not every backend copy.
- Applying enterprise retention figures to a personal account: the 28-day and 180-day statements are broad Chrome Enterprise guidance.
What you can safely conclude
After deletion, the Chrome Skills manager no longer presents that saved Skill for reuse, and Google says the action cannot be undone. The Skill’s prompt is information provided to Gemini Apps, but Google has not published a Chrome-specific explanation of whether deletion immediately removes all retained copies or a related conversation. For a fuller cleanup, handle the Skills manager, Gemini Apps Activity, and Chrome browsing data as separate controls and do not claim that one automatically clears the others.
