If your Raider is knocked out while topside in ARC Raiders, you lose your carried gear and the loot collected during that raid—except items in your Safe Pocket. Quest consequences depend on the objective: a task marked “In One Round” must be completed in a single raid, but the available official guidance does not establish that every other quest objective is erased by death.
What do you lose when you die?
Embark’s Help Center says that when your Raider is knocked out topside, you lose everything except what is in your Safe Pocket. That includes the gear you brought into the raid and items you picked up during it. Embark’s “Your first raid” guide was last updated October 1, 2025.
The practical distinction is where an item is stored when you are knocked out:

- In the Safe Pocket: This is the stated exception to the loss rule. Secondary quest guidance also recommends placing a quest item there if you need to protect it during a dangerous run.
A quest item left in your regular inventory is not protected merely because it is needed for a task. If the item must survive the raid, move it into the Safe Pocket if it is eligible and there is room.

Does dying reset quest progress?
Not necessarily. The available official knockout guidance explains what happens to items; it does not say that ordinary death universally wipes every previously registered quest objective. Avoid treating all quest progress as one system: losing a physical item, failing a raid-specific objective, and retaining account-level progress are different outcomes.
Objectives marked “In One Round”
If an objective says “In One Round,” its required steps must be completed in the same raid. They cannot be divided across separate sessions. Being knocked out before finishing means that attempt is over and you must start the one-round challenge again on a later run. Secondary quest guidance documents this rule; ArcMaps’ quest guide also discusses Safe Pocket use for quest items.

That does not establish that every other quest objective resets on death. The sources available do not provide a universal progress-by-quest matrix, so check the wording and current status of the specific objective in game.

Even if an objective’s recorded progress is not shown to reset, the item you need to complete it can still be lost if it was outside the Safe Pocket. Separate the question “Did the game keep my objective progress?” from “Do I still have the item required to finish?”

Do you keep XP, and can you escape while downed?
The official knockout guidance establishes item loss, not the treatment of XP. The secondary ARC Raiders Wiki “Getting Started” page reports that players still receive round XP after death. Treat that as a secondary-source account rather than an official rule confirmed by the Help Center.
The same wiki describes a limited crawl period after collapse in which a downed Raider may be able to activate extraction or use a Raider Hatch; another player may also revive them or deliver the final blow. These are tactical possibilities, not guaranteed ways to save a run. If you are downed, act quickly if an extraction option is available, but do not assume you will have time or that you can retain unprotected items.

When does extraction matter?
Some event rewards are explicitly conditional on getting out with an item. For example, Embark’s June 16, 2026 Live Update 1.33.0 says Merit from the Forgotten Relics event is claimed only when a Raider successfully extracts with the relic. That is an event-specific rule, not proof that every quest or event works the same way. Read the current objective or event text for its extraction condition.

Embark’s November 13, 2025 Update 1.2.0 documented a fix for an issue affecting quests involving multiple objectives or item collections within one round. When an objective behaves unexpectedly, check its current in-game text and the latest official patch notes rather than assuming an old description still applies.

Is ordinary death the same as an Expedition reset?
No. A raid knockout is a run-level loss governed by the Safe Pocket exception. An Expedition is a separate, voluntary character reset. In Embark design director Virgil’s October 9, 2025 explanation of the Expedition Project, the reset removes character-inherent progress. Do not interpret that reset as the consequence of dying in an ordinary raid.
