In a normal ARC Raiders raid, final elimination costs you the gear and loot you are carrying outside your Safe Pocket. Items found during a raid are secured only when you successfully extract. The available official guidance does not say that ordinary death resets persistent quest progress, so do not confuse a failed raid with an Expedition, which can reset character progression under its own rules.
What you lose when you are eliminated
On final elimination, assume that weapons, equipment, consumables and raid loot in your exposed inventory are lost. The stated exception is whatever is stored in Safe Pocket slots. The Epic Games Store beginner guide says its Free Loadout has no Safe Pockets, so it offers no protected slot for items.
Being downed is not necessarily the same as being eliminated. The guide says a downed Raider may be able to crawl into an extraction point and return to Speranza with loot if opponents have not fully incapacitated them. Once you are fully eliminated, that recovery opportunity is gone.

Extraction is what secures items collected topside. The beginner guide identifies Raider Hatches, which require a key, and regular exits such as Airshafts, Subway Tunnels and Cargo Elevators. It notes that regular extraction points can be noisy and may attract ARC enemies or other players.

In practical terms, decide whether another loot stop is worth the risk of losing what you already carry. If you need to protect a valuable eligible item, place it in a Safe Pocket before deploying; ordinary inventory slots remain at risk if you are eliminated.
Does dying reset quest progress?
The available official guidance does not say that ordinary death wipes persistent quest progress. It also does not settle whether every kind of objective progress—such as a pickup, location visit or kill—persists through death. Check the exact objective’s in-game instructions rather than assuming all quest steps behave alike.

Some event credit has an explicit extraction condition. In its June 16, 2026 update, Embark said relic Merit is claimed only when a player successfully extracts with the relic, while Merits earned through XP are converted automatically. That rule applies to this event mechanic; it should not be generalized to every quest. See Embark’s Help Center update notes.

Embark’s Expedition Project overview describes departure as a voluntary reset of character-inherent progress, while cosmetics, awards, achievements and rankings remain. Its fifth Expedition announcement added a quest-progress reset opt-out and said Expeditions would pause until early 2027 for larger changes. Those are dated Expedition terms, not rules for dying in a normal raid. Review the current in-game departure screen before committing.

Lower-risk choices for a cautious raid
- Protect one priority item: Put the most valuable eligible item you need to retain in a Safe Pocket before deploying.
- Use a Free Loadout for a resource run: It can reduce the gear you risk, but the guide says it has no Safe Pocket and fewer inventory slots.
- Plan an exit: Hatch access requires a key; regular exits can be noisy, so weigh the carried loot against the risk of staying longer.
- Read the objective condition: Look for wording that requires extraction, especially for event credit.
