Short answer: Minecraft’s Switch 2 edition launches October 27, 2026, but Minecraft has not published a Switch-to-Switch 2 procedure confirming how existing DLC, Marketplace purchases, or locally saved worlds move over. Keep the same Microsoft account linked for Bedrock Marketplace purchases, but do not assume that every entitlement or world will appear automatically. The digital game upgrade offer is separate from the question of what transfers.
What the Switch 2 upgrade offer includes
Minecraft’s Switch 2 edition launches October 27, 2026. If you own the digital Nintendo Switch version, Minecraft says you can obtain the digital Standard Edition upgrade free through the end of January 2027 in most territories. The stated exceptions are Japan, where the upgrade costs 100 JPY, and Taiwan, where it costs 30 NTD. The offer applies to owners of the digital Switch game; the announcement does not extend it to physical-game owners. Minecraft’s October 7, 2026 announcement also offers discounted digital upgrades to Deluxe Collection and Ultimate Collection through Nintendo eShop. It does not state prices for every territory. The Switch 2 release also has a physical retail edition. The digital owner upgrade offer should not be treated as applying to that physical edition: the announcement limits the free offer to people who own the digital Switch version. [c001]
What the new editions bundle
All three digital editions include the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. Deluxe adds Celebration Food, Rescue Dogs, Plenty O’Blocks, three Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins. Ultimate includes those three add-ons, plus Decocraft and Weapons + Tools, five Character Creator items, and 1,000 Minecoins. These are inclusions in the new editions; Minecraft has not explained how they interact with separately owned entitlements. [c001]

Will existing DLC and Marketplace purchases transfer?
As of October 9, 2026, Minecraft’s Switch 2 announcements describe the game upgrade and new editions but do not provide a step-by-step migration procedure for existing Switch-purchased DLC or Marketplace content. They also do not confirm that every separately purchased item will automatically appear in the Switch 2 edition. Treat the exact transfer outcome and steps as unresolved until Minecraft publishes specific instructions. [c001] [c003]
Bedrock Marketplace purchases
Minecraft’s general Bedrock guidance says Marketplace purchases sync across Bedrock versions when you bought the content while signed in to the same Microsoft account. Use the Microsoft account associated with those purchases when signing in on Switch 2. This is relevant account guidance, not a confirmation that all purchases will automatically be available in the new Switch 2 version. DLC bought in the legacy Switch Edition
Older instructions for the transition from Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition to Switch Bedrock covered a different change. They said to launch the legacy edition to sync recent purchases and then launch Bedrock; DLC bought in that legacy edition remained on the Switch rather than carrying to other devices. Those historical instructions are not Switch 2 migration steps. [c005]
Purchases tied to a Nintendo Account
Nintendo says digital purchases cannot be transferred from one Nintendo Account to another. It separately allows downloaded content loaded as a virtual game card on a console to be accessed by other users of that console; that is console sharing, not moving purchase ownership between accounts. Keep this distinct from Microsoft-account syncing for Bedrock Marketplace purchases. Nintendo Support’s account-transfer guidance covers the account limitation. [c006]

Will your Minecraft worlds transfer?
Minecraft has not published Switch-to-Switch 2 instructions confirming how locally saved worlds move or whether they transfer automatically. Older documentation describes converting legacy-format Switch worlds into Bedrock on the same Switch, but that does not establish a procedure for moving a world to Switch 2. Until specific instructions are available, do not treat an existing local save as covered by the digital game upgrade. [c001] [c003] [c005]

What changes to Minecoins on October 27?
Minecraft announced a wallet change for Nintendo devices, effective October 27, 2026. It is a future change as of October 9, 2026, not a policy already in effect. Minecraft’s Minecoin announcement distinguishes coins already owned from later purchases: [c002]

- Minecoins owned before October 27: They move to a Legacy Wallet, remain usable on compatible platforms, do not expire, and are spent before coins in the post-launch Nintendo Wallet.
- Minecoins bought in Minecraft on a Nintendo device from October 27 onward: They go into a separate Nintendo Wallet and are usable only on Nintendo systems.
- Minecoins bought on another device from October 27 onward: They can no longer be used to make Marketplace purchases on Nintendo devices.

What to do before upgrading
- Check which Switch game you own. The announced free Standard Edition upgrade is for digital owners of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch. Check Nintendo eShop for the offer and your territory’s terms; Japan and Taiwan have stated charges, and the digital upgrade offer is not confirmed for physical owners. [c001]
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account. Use the account associated with your Bedrock Marketplace purchases. General Bedrock guidance supports same-account syncing, but does not confirm Switch 2-specific outcomes. [c004] [c007]
- Keep account types straight. Microsoft-account Marketplace syncing and Nintendo Account ownership of eShop purchases are separate. Nintendo does not transfer digital purchase ownership from one Nintendo Account to another. [c006]
- Do not rely on an old world-transfer guide as Switch 2 guidance. The documented legacy-to-Bedrock conversion applied to the earlier transition and same-Switch worlds, not Switch-to-Switch 2 migration. [c005]
