Your Hello Kitty Island Adventure Game Trial save is not automatically deleted when the trial ends. The trial itself becomes unplayable, but Nintendo says you can purchase the full game and continue from the progress stored by the trial. The title-specific offer also says this remains true if you buy during or after the offer period.
The announced Nintendo Switch Online offer ran from October 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time through October 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time for eligible members in Canada. That offer window has now ended, but the save-retention rule applies to the trial save rather than requiring an immediate purchase.

What changes when the trial expires?
Two separate things happen at expiration:
- Play access ends. Nintendo says an expired Game Trial is no longer playable. Starting the trial software after the allowed period can show an expired-play-time message.
- The trial save remains. Nintendo’s Game Trials FAQ states that save data is not deleted when a trial ends.
That distinction matters. An unplayable trial and a deleted save are not the same outcome. The software may remain on your Switch, or you may archive or delete the trial software, but the expiration event itself does not erase the progress Nintendo describes in its policy.
| Situation | What Nintendo says | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Trial period is active | You can play the game and create or update the trial save. | Continue playing until the announced end time. |
| Trial period has ended | The Game Trial is no longer playable; the save is not deleted merely because the period ended. | Purchase the full game if you want to resume playing. |
| Full game is purchased | Nintendo says the trial save can be used to continue where you stopped. | Start the full game and look for your existing progress. |
| Trial DLC was purchased | Access to that DLC is unavailable again after expiration until the full game is purchased. | Buy the full game to restore access described by Nintendo. |
Does my save data get deleted?
No—not as a consequence of the Game Trial ending. Nintendo Support’s Game Trials FAQ puts the rule plainly: “Your save data for a Game Trial is not deleted when a trial ends, so you can pick up where you left off if you purchase the game.”

The statement is about the expiration of the trial period. It does not say that every possible action involving save management is reversible. Manually deleting save data, moving between consoles, changing users, or using a different account are separate situations that the cited policy does not explain. If preserving your progress is important, do not use the Switch’s save-data deletion controls while deciding what to do.
Can you continue where you left off after buying the game?
Yes. Nintendo’s announcement for Hello Kitty Island Adventure specifically says that a player who purchases the game “during or after this offer” keeps all save data and does not lose progress. This title-specific statement backs up the general Game Trials FAQ.
How to resume play
- Let the trial expire or confirm that it has expired. An expired-play-time notice is expected once the permitted trial period has ended.
- Purchase the full Nintendo Switch game. The purchase is what restores the ability to play after the trial is no longer playable.
- Start Hello Kitty Island Adventure from the full-game installation. Nintendo’s support guidance says the Game Trial save is used so you can pick up where you left off.
- Check your existing progress before creating a new file. If the game presents an existing save, use it rather than starting over.
Nintendo does not publish a separate save-conversion procedure for this title in the information cited here. The practical point is that buying the game—not replaying the trial or recovering a deleted file—is the supported path to continue from the retained trial save.

The announcement was published on October 8, 2026, and its save assurance covers a purchase made either while the offer was active or after it ended. Because the dates and eligibility were published by Nintendo of Canada, they describe that regional promotion; they should not be treated as a universal schedule for every country. As of October 16, 2026, the announced Canadian window is over. If you are reading this after the window or outside Canada, check the current Nintendo eShop listing for whether a Game Trial is available in your region.
What if you do not buy immediately?
Nintendo’s general rule does not impose an immediate purchase deadline for retaining the trial save. The FAQ says the save is not deleted when the trial ends, and the Hello Kitty Island Adventure announcement says a purchase after the offer still keeps all save data.
You therefore have three practical choices:
- Buy the game now: resume play from the retained trial save.
- Leave the trial software installed: it will remain unplayable after expiration, but you can purchase the game later.
- Archive or delete the trial software: Nintendo says these are options for expired trial software. The published material does not establish every result of separately deleting save data, so do not confuse removing the software with erasing the save.
The last option deserves care. On a Switch, software management and save-data management are different controls, but the sources cited for this question do not promise recovery after a player deliberately deletes the save. If your priority is preserving progress, avoid the save-data deletion command.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat happens to DLC bought during the trial?
Trial DLC has an additional restriction. Nintendo says that once the trial period ends, access to DLC bought for the trial returns only after you purchase the full game. In other words, the DLC entitlement is not a way to keep playing the expired trial by itself.

- A new Spin on a Classic: You've never played classic Sonic like this before!
- Multiply, swim up waterfalls, change form, and more with the powers of the Chaos Emeralds.
- lay as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose, using their unique abilities to explore and uncover new paths and secrets.
- More Friends, More Fun: Play with up to 3 other players in local Co-op and challenge players from around the world in Battle Mode!
This does not change the save rule: expiration does not delete the trial save, and purchasing the full game is the step Nintendo identifies for continuing. It does mean that a player who bought add-on content should not expect that content to remain usable while the base game is still only an expired trial.
What Nintendo’s policy does—and does not—guarantee
Covered by the published guidance
- The Game Trial stops being playable when the permitted period ends or the relevant Nintendo Switch Online membership access expires.
- The trial save is not deleted merely because the trial ends.
- Buying the full Hello Kitty Island Adventure game lets you continue from the trial save.
- The title-specific October 2026 announcement says the save-retention assurance applies to purchases made during or after the offer.
- Trial DLC access requires purchasing the full game after expiration.
Not established by these statements
- Recovery after you manually delete the save data.
- What happens when the save is associated with a different Nintendo user or account.
- What happens when you move to another Switch or use a console-transfer process.
- Whether a particular cloud backup contains the trial save or can restore it.
Those boundaries are important because “the save is retained when the trial ends” is narrower than “the save can always be recovered under every account, console, or deletion scenario.”

Nintendo’s official store listing identifies Hello Kitty Island Adventure as a Nintendo Switch title and lists Save Data Cloud support. That listing does not establish that every Game Trial save has been uploaded, that synchronization has completed, or that cloud recovery covers every account and console situation.
Use the Game Trial expiration guarantee for the question it answers: the save is not deleted when the trial ends, and buying the full game allows continuation. Do not treat the separate cloud-support listing as proof that a missing or manually deleted save can always be restored.

Troubleshooting after the trial ends
The game shows an expired-play-time message
That message is expected after the permitted trial period. Nintendo’s support information confirms that the Game Trial is no longer playable after expiration. It does not indicate that your save was erased.
You bought the game but do not see your progress
Do not delete the existing save while investigating. First make sure you launched the full game rather than trying to open the expired trial, and check that the game is being started in the environment where the trial progress was created. Nintendo’s published statements do not define a recovery process for different users, accounts, or consoles, so those cases should not be treated as covered by the basic expiration guarantee.
You are unsure whether the offer applied to you
Confirm the region and date. The documented promotion was a Nintendo of Canada offer for Nintendo Switch Online members, running October 9–15, 2026, in Pacific Time. A listing in another region, or a different Game Trial promotion, may have different eligibility or dates.
You purchased DLC but it is unavailable
Nintendo says trial DLC access returns after purchasing the full game. If the base game is still only an expired trial, DLC access should not be expected to continue independently.
Bottom line for Hello Kitty Island Adventure players
The Game Trial ending shuts off play access; it does not automatically wipe the trial save. Nintendo’s general Game Trials FAQ and its Hello Kitty Island Adventure announcement both say that purchasing the full game lets you continue from that retained progress, including a purchase made after the October 2026 offer. Preserve the save by avoiding manual deletion, and treat account changes, console moves, and cloud recovery as separate situations that Nintendo’s published trial-expiration statements do not resolve.
