Your Fitbit history was not handled the same way for every account. Google ended legacy Fitbit sign-in on May 19, 2026 and renamed the Fitbit app Google Health. If you moved your Fitbit account to a Google Account, Google says the historical data you selected during migration is retained. If you did not migrate, Google opened a download-and-delete window that ended when deletion processing was scheduled to begin on July 15, 2026. Because Google does not publish account-by-account deletion results, an unmigrated account may require an individual sign-in attempt or support request, but recovery is not guaranteed.

What changed when the classic Fitbit app ended?

The change was an account transition, not simply an app update. On May 19, 2026, Google ended support for signing in with a legacy Fitbit account. Continuing to use Fitbit services required moving that account to a Google Account. The mobile app is now called Google Health.

Google’s migration instructions say, “You’ll keep all historical data that you choose to move to your Google Account.” That wording matters: retention depends on the categories you selected during the transfer. Migration is also permanent; Google says it cannot be undone after completion.

People who did not move their accounts were told to download or delete their data before Google began processing deletions on July 15, 2026. That date has passed. Google’s public help pages describe a deletion process that takes time, rather than an instant wipe, but they do not identify which individual accounts have been deleted or promise that an unmigrated account can still be recovered.

There are three different Fitbit-data outcomes

Account situation What Google’s guidance says What it means in October 2026
Moved to a Google Account Historical data selected for transfer is kept and managed through Google Health and Google Account controls. Sign in with the exact Google Account used for the transfer and verify that the expected history is present. The transfer cannot be reversed.
Not moved before the deadline Users could request an archive or delete data before deletion processing was scheduled to start July 15, 2026. The deadline is past. Public documentation does not disclose your account’s deletion status or guarantee late recovery.
Archive downloaded before the deadline Fitbit offered a full archive or an export of selected data; large archives could take a few days to prepare. The files are outside the app account and remain available if you kept them. Make a second secure copy.

If you moved Fitbit to Google, how do you find your history?

Use the Google Account that you approved during migration, not merely the address currently signed in on your phone. A different Google Account can make a successful transfer look like missing data.

  1. Sign in to Google Health. Open the current Google Health app or its web experience with the account used for the Fitbit transfer.
  2. Check the historical categories. Look for the types of information you selected, such as activity, sleep, exercise, or other Fitbit records. Google’s promise applies to the history you chose to move, not necessarily every category that ever existed in the Fitbit account.
  3. Review Google Account data controls. Confirm that Google Health appears among the account’s data and privacy controls and that you are viewing the same account shown during migration.
  4. Compare dates and gaps. A missing category or date range is different from an account that will not sign in. Record exactly what is absent before contacting support.
  5. Do not attempt a second migration. Google describes the completed move as irreversible. Changing settings or deleting the account is not a way to roll it back.

If only some history appears, first check the transfer choices you made. The official statement covers data selected for transfer, so an unselected category is not evidence that Google’s retention promise was broken.

What happens if you never switched to a Google Account?

Google’s notice gave legacy users until July 15, 2026 to download or delete their Fitbit data before deletion processing began. As of October 2026, that cutoff is in the past. The notice also says processing can take time and that some users might still be able to migrate during that period.

There is no public account-status lookup that tells you whether deletion has completed. The help pages do not establish a universal post-cutoff recovery procedure, an exception policy, or a guaranteed retention period. Therefore, two statements are both unsafe: that every unmigrated account was erased on July 15, and that every unmigrated account can still be restored.

You can still perform an account-specific check:

  1. Open Google Health and try the sign-in or migration flow using the email address associated with the old Fitbit account.
  2. If the flow identifies an eligible account, follow the displayed instructions and read which data will be transferred before confirming.
  3. If no account is found, contact official Google Health or Fitbit support. Provide the old Fitbit email address, approximate account details, and any error message, but treat support as an inquiry rather than a promised recovery route.
  4. Do not create a replacement account expecting it to contain the old history. A new account does not recreate server-side records that were not transferred.

Can you still download Fitbit data?

Data already exported

A downloaded archive is independent of the online account. Preserve the original files, create a second copy on storage you control, and keep the archive in a location protected by a strong password and device encryption. Do not edit the only copy while trying to inspect it.

Google Account users

Google directs users who have a Google Account to its account-level data-download process. Select Google Health and request the categories you need. A large archive may take up to a few days to prepare, according to Google’s 2026 help guidance. The preparation delay does not itself indicate a problem.

Legacy Fitbit users

Before the cutoff, legacy users were directed to Fitbit settings to request either a complete archive or an export of selected data. That route was intended for the pre-deletion window. The current public instructions do not promise that a new legacy export can be generated after deletion processing has begun.

Deleted accounts

Google’s export guidance says data for a deleted account is unavailable through the export process. If an archive was never saved and support confirms that deletion is complete, an export request cannot recreate the files.

Why might transferred data appear to be missing?

  • Wrong Google Account: You may be signed in with a personal or work account different from the one approved during migration. Sign out and test each account you actually used.
  • Unselected category: Migration retained the historical data you chose to move. A category omitted during review will not necessarily appear later.
  • Different view or date filter: Check the full history range and the category’s own screen rather than relying only on a dashboard summary.
  • Transfer still being reflected: Capture the screen, timestamp, and account address, then ask support whether the account transfer completed. Avoid deleting anything while the discrepancy is investigated.
  • Archive confusion: A downloaded file may contain folders or machine-readable records rather than a visual chart. Keep the archive intact and inspect copies, not the original.

Does moving Fitbit data change Google’s privacy treatment?

For data used with a Google Account, Google says it is the data controller and that the Google Privacy Policy applies. Google also states: “Health and wellness data is not used for Google ads.” That is Google’s policy commitment, not an independent technical audit.

The statement is specific to Fitbit health and wellness data. It should not be expanded to all information held by Google or to information sent to connected third-party services. Google notes that data shared with another service can be governed by that service’s own privacy notice and terms.

Review connected apps and permissions separately if you previously linked Fitbit to another service. Removing a connection may affect future sharing, but it does not guarantee that a third party has erased copies it already received.

Cloud account deletion is different from data on the tracker

Deleting a Google or Fitbit account concerns the online service. Google says deleting an account does not automatically erase data stored on the Fitbit device itself. A tracker can therefore retain local information after the associated cloud account is gone.

Google Fitbit Inspire 3 - Midnight Zen/Black - Small and Large Bands | Stress management, sleep tracking, 24/7 heart rate, 3-month Google Health Premium membership included, small and large bands
  • Inspire 3 is the tracker that helps you find your energy, do what you love and feel your best – all you have to do is wear it;
  • Compatible with Apple iOS 16.4 or higher and Android OS 11.0 or higher
  • Move more: Stay motivated with a Daily Readiness Score, Active Zone Minutes, all-day activity tracking and 24/7 heart rate, 40+ exercise modes, automatic exercise tracking, and reminders to move
  • Stress less: Keep an eye on your well-being with a daily Stress Management Score, mindfulness sessions, relax breathing sessions, irregular heart rhythm notifications, SpO2, menstrual health tracking, resting heart rate, and more[1,2]
  • Sleep better: Automatic sleep tracking, a daily detailed Sleep Score, smart wake vibrating alarm, and sleep mode help you improve your sleep quality[3]

Before giving away or selling a device, follow that model’s reset or erase instructions separately. If you still own the tracker and need its local records, avoid resetting it until you have determined whether those records are needed; a device reset is a separate action from an online export.

What to do now: a practical checklist

  1. Identify the login: Write down the email addresses used for Fitbit and for any Google Accounts you might have chosen.
  2. Check Google Health: Sign in to each plausible Google Account and inspect the historical categories and date ranges.
  3. Look for an existing archive: Search your computer, cloud storage, and backup drives for the export created before July 15, 2026. Keep at least two protected copies.
  4. Request a current export if the data is migrated: Use Google’s data-download controls and select Google Health. Allow up to a few days for a large archive.
  5. Document discrepancies: Note missing categories, date ranges, account addresses, and error messages. Screenshots can help support identify the account.
  6. Contact official support for an unmigrated account: Ask whether the account remains eligible for migration or whether deletion has completed. Do not assume either outcome without an account-specific response.
  7. Protect the hardware separately: If the tracker will change hands, erase its local data using the device’s instructions after preserving anything you still need.
  8. Avoid destructive troubleshooting: Do not delete the Google Health account, reset the tracker, or discard an archive merely because the first sign-in attempt failed.

What you should not assume

  • The app’s new name does not mean every Fitbit account was automatically migrated.
  • The July 15 date was the start of deletion processing, not a published account-by-account confirmation that every record disappeared that day.
  • A successful Google sign-in does not prove that every historical category was transferred; verify the categories you selected.
  • A new tracker, cable, or storage device cannot restore server-side history that was never migrated or exported.
  • Deleting an online account does not automatically wipe data stored locally on a tracker or data previously shared with another service.

Bottom line for former Fitbit users

Check the Google Account used during migration first. Selected history should be available in Google Health, while an archive you downloaded remains yours to preserve. If you never migrated and did not save an export, the July 15, 2026 deadline has passed; try the official sign-in flow and contact support, but rely only on an account-specific response for any recovery expectation.
