A PlayStation VR support change would not, by itself, prove that Sony had deleted your purchased games or DLC. The practical result would depend on what changed: hardware compatibility, a game’s store listing, online servers, account authentication, or the entitlement that gave you access. Sony’s current US pages do not announce an end to PS VR support.
The most important limitation is hardware: original PS VR and PS VR2 are separate platforms. PS VR2 cannot play original PS VR content, while some original PS VR headsets and games can still be used on a PS5 with the PlayStation Camera adapter. DLC has an additional dependency on the base-game entitlement, especially when the base game came from PlayStation Plus.
“Support ends” can mean several different things
People often use “support” to describe very different events. Stopping production of a headset is not the same as removing a game from your account, and ending updates is not the same as closing a game’s servers. Identify the event before predicting what happens to a particular title.

Sony’s official pages reviewed for this article do not announce that original PS VR support is ending. The rest of this article describes the consequences if one or more of these separate changes occurs.

Your purchase, your download, and your ability to play are separate questions
A game appearing in your PlayStation account is evidence of an entitlement, but it is not a promise that every related service will remain available forever. Sony’s US PlayStation Terms of Service reserve broad rights over online content and data. In section 13, Sony states: For any Content that uses online servers, we make no commitment to continue to make those servers available.
That is a general term, not a PS VR shutdown notice and not a title-by-title ruling.
For an offline-capable game, the practical outcome may be different from a game that requires a server at launch. Some titles may require periodic sign-in, license checks, or network access even when their main campaign is designed for one player. The publisher’s current support notice and the game’s own requirements are the only reliable way to establish those details.
Sony’s Software EULA also covers patches, updates, downloadable content, upgrades, and new versions. Its virtual-content section says, Virtual Content is licensed, not owned;
this language concerns items such as in-game currency and other virtual goods. It should not be expanded into a claim that every purchased game or DLC pack is automatically erased when a headset line changes. It does mean that access to some virtual items can be limited by the EULA, the game’s servers, or the account that supplied them.

Original PS VR and PS VR2 are not interchangeable
Sony’s PS VR2 compatibility page is explicit: There is no compatibility between PlayStation®VR and PS VR2:
PS VR cannot play PS VR2 games, and PS VR2 cannot play original PS VR content. Buying a PS VR2 therefore does not turn your existing original-PS-VR library into a backwards-compatible library.
“PS VR game” can also describe different versions of the same release. A title may have an original PS VR version, a separate PS VR2 version, a flat-screen mode, or a publisher-provided upgrade. Check the exact product page and edition in your account rather than assuming that a familiar name represents one universal build.
Using original PS VR with a PS5
Sony says an original PS VR headset and games can be used on PS5 with a PlayStation Camera adapter. This is a route to continue using compatible original content on a newer console, but it is not a conversion to PS VR2. Check the adapter’s current availability, the PS5 model and accessories required, and the individual game’s camera, controller, or processor-unit requirements.

The adapter also does not restore an online service that a publisher has closed. It solves a hardware connection problem only; licensing, downloads, patches, and server access remain separate checks.

Some games offer a PS VR2 edition or upgrade, but Sony does not promise a universal free conversion. Sony’s upgrade guidance says: Depending on the game, this upgrade may occur at no additional cost, may require a purchase, and may be available for a limited time.
Treat the game hub’s offer as the controlling information for that title.

An upgrade can therefore preserve access to a newer version without changing the status of your original entitlement. Read the title’s region, edition, disc, payment, and time-limit conditions before paying for an upgrade.

How DLC access changes in the main ownership scenarios
You bought the base game and DLC outright
There is no official statement that a change in PS VR hardware support automatically deletes those purchases. You should still distinguish an account entitlement from the ability to download or use the content. A delisting can affect new purchases; a server closure can affect online-dependent add-ons; and a title-specific upgrade can require a separate payment. Keep the base game and add-on receipts in your transaction history so you can identify exactly what your account owns.
The base game came from the PlayStation Plus catalog
PlayStation Plus catalog access is conditional. Sony says catalog games have removal dates and that a subscriber loses access to a catalog game and its associated DLC or add-ons when membership expires or the title leaves the service. If you later resubscribe or purchase the base game, separately purchased DLC and add-ons can be used again under Sony’s stated rules.
This is different from owning the base game outright. Buying a DLC pack does not, by itself, give you the catalog game required to launch it. Check the game’s catalog status or purchase the base game before troubleshooting the add-on.

The DLC depends on a publisher’s servers
Cosmetic items, online passes, shared-world features, and cloud-saved content may stop functioning when the publisher ends the required service, even if the package remains listed in your account. A locally stored expansion with an offline mode may have a different result. Read the publisher’s server notice and the DLC description for the mode you actually use.

Use this sequence before replacing hardware or assuming that an add-on has vanished:
- Record the exact title and edition. Note whether it is an original PS VR release, a PS VR2 release, a non-VR version with a VR mode, or a bundle.
- Check the entitlement source. In your account and transaction history, classify it as a direct purchase, a PlayStation Plus catalog benefit, a disc-based license, or another subscription access right.
- Check the required headset. PS VR2 cannot run original PS VR content. If you own a PS5 and want to keep using original PS VR, verify the PlayStation Camera adapter and the game’s accessory requirements.
- Open the game hub on PS5. Look for a PS VR2 upgrade, then record whether it is free, paid, limited-time, disc-dependent, or unavailable in your region.
- Check every add-on separately. Confirm that the DLC belongs to the same base-game edition and region and that the base game is currently playable under your entitlement.
- Read the publisher’s current service notice. Look for server shutdown dates, mandatory sign-in, authentication requirements, or a statement that an offline mode remains available.
- Test downloads while the service is available. Install the base game and key DLC on the console you intend to use, then launch the content with the required account signed in. An installation test cannot guarantee future server availability, but it identifies missing licenses and compatibility problems now.
Choosing between keeping original PS VR and moving to PS VR2

Choose based on the games you actually intend to play, not on the assumption that a newer headset replaces every older title.
Common failure symptoms and the right fix
- “The DLC is installed but locked.” Confirm that the base game is installed and that its entitlement is active. If the base game came from PlayStation Plus, check whether the catalog entry expired or was removed.
- “The PS VR2 does not detect my old game.” Check for a PS VR2 version or upgrade. Original PS VR content is not compatible merely because the game is digital.
- “The upgrade is not free.” Read the game hub’s terms; Sony allows publishers to charge for an upgrade or limit the offer to a specific period.
- “The game launches but an online mode fails.” Look for a publisher server closure, maintenance notice, or required account authentication. A working local installation does not keep a discontinued server online.
- “My disc upgrade will not start.” Use a PS5 with a disc drive and insert the qualifying disc every time you play the upgraded digital version.
- “The download option is missing after a delisting.” Do not assume the license was deleted. Check the account that made the purchase, transaction history, console activation, and the publisher’s current delisting or service notice.
Regional terms and the limits of the answer
The quoted terms and compatibility guidance are from Sony’s US pages accessed on October 13, 2026. Consumer law, store policies, subscription rules, and available hardware can differ by country. A local account may have additional statutory rights or different restoration procedures.
No official Sony announcement reviewed here says that PS VR support is ending. If Sony or a publisher later announces a specific closure, use that notice for the affected game and region. Until then, treat the situation as a set of independent checks: entitlement, hardware, upgrade path, DLC dependency, and online-service availability.
