AT&T Mexico has agreed to be sold to Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings, but the transaction is not yet complete. AT&T says customers should experience no service impact while the deal is pending, including U.S. customers traveling in Mexico and enterprise accounts.
The announcement does not yet establish new prices, plans, branding, billing systems, roaming terms, device-financing rules, contracts, numbers or coverage. Those details will require later customer communications.
What the ownership announcement actually means
On October 13, 2026, AT&T announced an agreement to sell AT&T Mexico to Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings. The announced consideration is $2 billion in cash at closing, plus additional contractual and contingent benefits.
This is an announced transaction, not a completed transfer. AT&T expects closing in the first quarter of 2027, provided customary closing conditions are met, including Mexican regulatory approvals. Until closing, AT&T remains the seller and continues to operate the business under its existing responsibilities.

A pending sale is therefore different from an immediate provider switch. The ownership announcement alone does not activate a new account system, cancel a plan, require a SIM replacement or assign your number to another carrier.
Will AT&T Mexico service stop or change now?
AT&T’s customer transaction FAQ states: “There are no impacts to your service related to this announcement – including for customers traveling to Mexico from the U.S.” The company also says enterprise customers should see no service impact and that it will continue delivering the expected experience.
These assurances apply to the period around the announcement. They mean you can continue using your existing service, support channels and account while the transaction proceeds. They do not promise that every commercial term will remain unchanged after a completed sale.

- The announcement itself does not tell you to obtain a new SIM, phone or number.
- There is no published post-closing price list or migration schedule to act on.
- Roaming for U.S. visitors and service for business accounts remain covered by AT&T’s current operations while closing is pending.
What customers should do while the deal is pending
- Keep using your service normally. Pay bills through the official channel associated with your account, monitor usage and contact AT&T Mexico support for ordinary technical or billing problems.
- Do not make a change solely because of the sale. A news report or social-media post is not a notice that your plan, SIM, number or payment arrangement has migrated.
- Complete separate regulatory requirements. Ownership and line-registration obligations are different matters. Check the official AT&T Mexico line-linking instructions if your line falls under the current schedule.
- Preserve account records. Download or retain bills, the contract or plan terms, device-payment details, receipts, cancellation terms and important support messages.
- Verify future notices through authenticated channels. Treat requests for passwords, one-time codes, remote access or an immediate payment to “keep” your number as suspicious until confirmed through an official support route.
Line-linking requirements continue independently
AT&T Mexico says lines activated before January 9, 2026 must be linked according to a schedule based on the last digit of the mobile number. The Mexican telecommunications regulator’s published calendar extends the listed schedule through December 31, 2026.

This requirement is not described as a consequence of the ownership agreement. Missing a line-linking step, where it applies to you, is a separate compliance issue; completing it does not mean your ownership transfer has occurred.
What could change after closing—and what is still unknown
No authoritative post-closing customer schedule has been published. The following items should be treated as open questions rather than decided outcomes.

Until those questions are answered in an official notice, avoid assuming that a lower or higher price, a different coverage map or an automatic migration will occur.
Do you need a new SIM, phone or number?
SIM and eSIM
There is no current instruction to replace a physical SIM or download a new eSIM because of the announcement. Keep the active SIM or eSIM profile in your phone and follow only a verified migration instruction if one is later issued.

If a message asks you to scan a QR code or provide an activation code, confirm the message through the account portal or an official support representative before acting. A legitimate replacement process should identify the affected lines, timing, fees (if any) and what happens to service during the change.
Phone and device payments
The sale announcement does not cancel a handset or create a new installment balance. Continue scheduled payments under your current agreement and retain proof of payment. A future owner would need to explain whether promotional credits, insurance, trade-in commitments and upgrade eligibility transfer unchanged.
Mobile number
No number change has been announced. Keep your current number and do not initiate a port merely to “avoid” the ownership change. If you later decide to switch providers, use the normal Mexican portability process after checking any contract balance or promotional obligation.

Can U.S. travelers still use AT&T roaming in Mexico?
Yes, the published customer assurance specifically includes customers traveling to Mexico from the United States. That addresses the period surrounding the announcement. It does not publish a permanent post-closing roaming price or eligibility guarantee.

Before a trip, check the terms attached to your own U.S. plan, including high-speed-data limits, day-pass rules, calls to countries other than the United States or Mexico, and what happens when an allowance is exhausted. If the transaction closes later, compare the successor’s roaming terms with those records rather than assuming they are identical.
What enterprise customers should expect
AT&T says enterprise customers have no service impact from the announcement and that it will continue to deliver the expected experience. Businesses should still keep their account team’s contact details, service-level documents, circuit inventories, security contacts and billing records together.
For a business with multiple locations or managed connectivity, ask for written confirmation before accepting any future change to purchase orders, tax documentation, escalation paths, service addresses, invoices or contract entities. A change in ownership can affect administration even when network service remains available.
Who is buying the business?
AT&T describes Grupo Televisa as having a strong operating presence in Mexican fixed-line broadband. It describes Fintech Holdings as contributing fresh capital, local knowledge and operational expertise in Mexico’s wireless sector.

The stated rationale is that a locally focused operator could improve the customer value proposition and lead the business’s next growth phase. That is the sellers’ explanation for the transaction, not a published promise of specific prices, coverage gains or product launches.
Why keeping your contract and receipts matters
On January 31, 2026, Mexico’s consumer-protection agency, Profeco, reported suspending telecommunications-service sales at three AT&T establishments in Mexico City. The agency said the stores were using a contract different from the latest version registered in the public adhesion-contract registry.
That enforcement event is separate from the ownership transaction. It does, however, show why your own contract version, receipts and written plan terms matter. If a billing, cancellation or device dispute arises, those records help establish what you accepted and what you paid, rather than leaving the account history to a later system migration.
When does the sale become final?

If approvals take longer or another closing condition is not met, the expected date could move. A completed sale should be confirmed by an official announcement, not inferred from a headline, an app icon or an unsolicited message.
How to evaluate a later successor offer
When the buyer publishes new terms, compare them with your saved bill and contract before accepting a migration. Focus on the items that affect your actual monthly cost and ability to stay connected:
- Monthly price: include taxes, recurring fees, deposits and any introductory period.
- Data allowance: check high-speed limits, throttling, hotspot rules and rollover treatment.
- Coverage: review the locations where you live, work and travel instead of relying on a national headline.
- Roaming: verify countries, day limits, speeds, calls and text charges.
- Contract length: identify renewal, early-cancellation and price-change clauses.
- Device financing: confirm installment balance, promotional credits, trade-in obligations and upgrade eligibility.
- Billing and support: note the portal, payment date, authorized contact methods and escalation path.
- Number portability: confirm that keeping your number is possible and learn the exact procedure if you decline the offer.
Save the notice itself, the effective date and your acceptance or rejection confirmation. Those details can matter if the advertised terms later differ from the account record.
Bottom line for AT&T Mexico customers
The ownership change is announced but not final. Continue using AT&T Mexico service and meet any separate line-linking obligations. You do not currently need a new SIM, phone, number or plan solely because Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings agreed to acquire the business. Wait for an official post-closing notice before assuming anything about prices, branding, billing, roaming, contracts, device payments or coverage.
