GoDaddy is retiring all dedicated servers. The company says it will migrate customers to VPS hosting when possible and strongly recommends moving proactively. This is therefore a review of a service in retirement—not a recommendation to buy a new GoDaddy dedicated server. The practical question for existing customers is whether the VPS assigned to their account will suit their workload, and how to test it before switching production traffic.
Is GoDaddy discontinuing dedicated servers?
Yes. GoDaddy’s official help page says, “All Dedicated Servers will be retired, and when possible, migrated to VPS Hosting.” It recommends that customers migrate proactively. GoDaddy describes VPS hosting as offering automated and manual snapshot backups, SSD or NVMe storage, and easier upgrades and scaling. It also says VPS performance is comparable in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific at the same or lower price. Those are GoDaddy’s descriptions; they do not independently establish equivalent performance for every workload.
The notice does not establish a migration date for every account or guarantee that every dedicated-server configuration can be moved automatically. Ask GoDaddy for your account’s timing and destination before making a production plan. GoDaddy’s dedicated-server end-of-life notice.

Which VPS does GoDaddy map to each dedicated server?
GoDaddy publishes the following destination mappings. They are configuration figures from the provider, not independent benchmarks:

| Legacy server | GoDaddy-stated VPS destination |
|---|---|
| DS-32 | 8 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 400 GB disk |
| DS-64 | 16 vCPU, 64 GB RAM, 800 GB disk |
| DS-128 or DS-256 | 32 vCPU, 128 GB RAM, 1.5 TB disk |
Matching or exceeding listed CPU, memory, and disk quantities does not mean a VPS behaves like a dedicated physical server. A VPS uses virtualized resources; the cited mapping does not specify physical CPU isolation, storage performance under your workload, network limits, or measured application performance. Confirm the exact VPS assigned to your account and evaluate it against your real peak load rather than relying on the table alone.
Will the migration cost more?
GoDaddy says that if your migration requires a higher VPS plan, the renewal price will remain the same or decrease. This statement concerns renewal after migration; it does not establish the cost of every add-on, contract, fee, or future pricing change. Ask GoDaddy to confirm your account-specific renewal amount and terms in writing before scheduling the move.

GoDaddy also describes a one-month free coupon for a new VPS so customers can migrate and test the environment, and says customers can contact a GoDaddy Guide about the coupon. Confirm eligibility and how to apply it with support; the offer is not a guarantee that every account receives the same plan or terms.

Will migration cause downtime?
It may. GoDaddy warns that extended downtime can occur during migration and says it will try to keep downtime as low as possible. It does not promise a zero-downtime move or state a guaranteed duration. If you use a control panel, GoDaddy points to WHM’s Transfer Tool and Plesk’s Migrator Extension as possible migration routes. GoDaddy’s migration guidance.
Test the destination before switching production traffic
Use the coupon period, if available, or another agreed test window to check the destination before relying on it. These are practical precautions, not steps GoDaddy guarantees as part of every migration:
- Confirm the migration plan. Get the assigned VPS plan, operating system, control-panel setup, target location, schedule, renewal price, and support responsibilities from GoDaddy.
- Prepare recovery. Verify that current backups are usable, identify how to restore the application, and agree on who can help if the transfer fails or takes longer than expected.
- Validate the workload on the VPS. Test application behavior and resource use under representative traffic. Check scheduled jobs, database access, permissions, and any services that depend on the server’s operating system or configuration.
- Check supporting services. Verify DNS, mail delivery, control-panel access, and any integrations or allowlists that depend on the server’s address.
- Schedule the cutover and monitor it. Choose a window that allows for disruption, follow the agreed DNS and traffic-switching steps, and monitor the application after the change. Keep a recovery path available until the new setup is confirmed.
What should you verify about IP addresses and account details?
GoDaddy’s notice says IPv6 addresses cannot be retained in the migration scenario it describes. Do not assume your addresses will carry over unchanged. Ask support which IPv4 and IPv6 addresses your account will receive, whether any address-dependent services need updating, and how the change affects DNS, mail, firewalls, and third-party allowlists. Confirm the destination operating system and control-panel details at the same time; the plan mapping alone does not answer those account-specific questions.

How should you judge the replacement VPS?
Compare the assigned VPS with the demands and constraints of your own server rather than treating a larger-looking resource table as proof of equivalence. Useful checks include:
- Resource model: virtual allocation versus the physical-resource isolation your workload requires.
- Capacity and limits: CPU and memory allocation, disk type and capacity, bandwidth, and network limits.
- Operations: management responsibilities, support scope, backups, recovery options, operating system, and control-panel compatibility.
- Location and protection: data-center location and latency, plus the security and DDoS protections relevant to your setup.
- Commercial and migration terms: renewal versus promotional pricing, migration assistance, expected downtime, and IP requirements.

Those figures are not US prices or a permanent monthly rate, so they are not a useful price estimate for a different region or account. What do expert and user reviews establish?
The available user-review material is too limited to support a representative satisfaction rating for GoDaddy dedicated-server customers. An r/webhosting discussion about the phase-out captures a practical concern—how migration to a VPS will go—but individual comments cannot show what typically happens across customer accounts. A G2 page includes reviews for GoDaddy Dedicated Server Hosting, including one review marked verified by the platform; that page alone does not establish a current, dedicated-server-specific overall score.
For a service being retired, broad GoDaddy ratings are not a substitute for evidence about dedicated-server migrations. Treat individual accounts as anecdotes, and base your decision on your assigned VPS, direct account terms, and a workload test. r/webhosting discussion about the phase-out · G2 reviews for GoDaddy Dedicated Server Hosting.
Should existing customers stay with GoDaddy or move elsewhere?
There is no evidence here to rank GoDaddy against other providers on performance. If the assigned VPS meets your tested requirements and the confirmed renewal terms work for you, migration may be the simpler route. If it does not meet your isolation, capacity, location, support, operating-system, IP, or recovery needs, compare alternatives against those specific requirements before choosing a destination.
Do not base the decision solely on the mapped vCPU, RAM, and disk totals. Those figures answer what GoDaddy lists for the destination; they do not answer whether your application performs adequately, whether your address requirements are met, or whether the move fits your acceptable downtime window.
