Gemini Live can process your spoken conversation. In the documented Android experience, you can also deliberately stream your phone’s camera or share its screen, and you may connect supported Google services such as Calendar, Keep, Tasks, Home, Spotify, or YouTube when those integrations are available and enabled. Screen sharing sends the entire display, so notifications, messages, account details, photos, or other visible sensitive information can be included.
What Google keeps and how it uses the material depends mainly on Gemini Apps Activity (called Keep Activity in Google’s controls) and a separate setting for using Live audio, video, and screen shares to improve services. The sections below separate what Live can receive from what Google says it stores, retains, and uses.
Where Gemini Live is available
Google’s current Gemini Live help guide documents Live on Android through the Gemini mobile app or Gemini as the mobile assistant. The guide says Live is not currently available in the Gemini web app or Google Messages, although Google is releasing feature updates gradually. Availability can therefore differ by device, account, region, and rollout stage.

What Gemini Live can access
Your spoken conversation
Voice is the basic input. Live listens through the device microphone and provides spoken, back-and-forth responses. During a session, Google’s guide describes controls to mute the microphone, put Live on hold, or end the conversation. Muting affects the microphone only; it does not automatically stop a camera stream or an active screen share.
Your camera view, when you turn it on
You can choose to stream video from the phone’s camera so Gemini can respond to what the camera sees. Camera sharing is an additional, user-started input rather than an unavoidable part of every Live conversation. Google asks users to respect other people’s privacy and obtain permission before recording or including them in a Live chat, as stated in the Gemini Apps Privacy Hub.
The camera has its own stop conditions. According to the Live guide, camera sharing turns off when you put Live on hold, leave the Gemini app, or lock the screen. It resumes automatically only after you put Live on hold and then continue the same session. Treat the camera indicator and Live controls as a reminder to verify what is being sent before showing a person, document, room, or display.
Your full phone screen, when you start screen sharing
Screen sharing is also explicit, but its scope is broad: Google states, “When you share your screen, your full screen is shared with Gemini.” That can include notification previews, text messages, email, passwords displayed in a manager, health information, work documents, photographs, and other apps visible while sharing.

- Google Pixel 10a is a durable, everyday phone with more[1]; snap brilliant photography on a simple, powerful camera, get 30+ hours out of a full charge[2], and do more with helpful AI like Gemini[3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
Start or stop screen sharing from Gemini’s Live controls or from the phone’s Screen Sharing notification, as described in the official instructions. Screen sharing stops when Live is put on hold or the screen locks, and it does not automatically restart. Before sharing, dismiss notifications and close or hide anything you do not want Gemini to receive; during sharing, avoid navigating to confidential screens.
Connected Apps and services
Live can use supported Connected Apps and services when the integration is available for your account and enabled. Google’s guide lists examples including Calendar, Keep, Tasks, Home, Spotify, and YouTube. These integrations can provide context or help with tasks, but the list is subject to change and rollout is gradual.
Work and school accounts have a narrower documented list: Calendar, Keep, and Tasks are currently available only when an administrator enables the supported apps. An organization’s administrator may also control activity settings and retention. Do not assume that a personal-account integration is available on a managed account, or that a service listed in Google’s guide is enabled for every user.
Other information Gemini Apps may process
Google’s broader Privacy Notice discusses prompts, files and other content shared with Gemini, device and app information, and information from connected services. Those categories describe Gemini Apps generally; they do not mean Live automatically reads every file or device datum in every conversation. Live receives the microphone, camera, screen, or connected-service information that you actually activate or provide, subject to the account and feature settings documented by Google.
How the sharing controls behave
Audio, camera, and screen inputs are separate controls. This matters because stopping one does not necessarily stop another.
- Microphone mute: stops Live from receiving microphone audio while muted. Existing camera or screen sharing can continue.
- Camera: is turned on and off independently. It stops on hold, when you leave Gemini, or when the screen locks; it can resume after you continue a held session.
- Screen share: is started explicitly, can be stopped in Gemini or through the Screen Sharing notification, stops on hold or screen lock, and does not automatically restart.
- Hold and end: holding pauses the Live session and triggers the camera and screen behavior described above; ending the session stops the conversation.
Because the phone’s entire display is included in a screen share, a microphone mute is not a privacy substitute for stopping video or screen transmission.
What Google stores when Keep Activity is on or off
Google uses Gemini Apps Activity to describe the account activity controls for Gemini. The storage and transcript rules change with the Keep Activity setting.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Setting or material | Google’s stated handling |
|---|---|
| Keep Activity on | Live recordings, transcripts, and other content shared with Live are saved in Gemini Apps Activity. Google says transcripts may be used to improve Google services, including AI models. Gemini Apps Privacy Hub |
| Keep Activity off | Google says Live chats are stored in the Google Account for up to 72 hours so it can provide the service and process feedback. Gemini Apps Privacy Hub |
| Live audio, video, and screen shares | Not used to improve Google services by default. A separate setting can permit that use; Google’s activity controls say Keep Activity must be on to enable it. Manage and delete your activity in Gemini Apps |
| User activity controls | You can review and delete Gemini Apps Activity. Google describes the separate audio and Live-recording improvement control as off by default. Manage and delete your activity in Gemini Apps |
| Work or school account | A Workspace administrator may control activity settings and retention. Supported Connected Apps also require administrator enablement. Activity controls; Live guide |
Turning Keep Activity off does not mean that no processing occurs. Google’s stated term is up to 72 hours of account storage for service delivery and feedback. That is different from the separate decision to allow raw Live audio, video, and screen shares to be used for service improvement.

How to check and change the relevant settings
Names and placement can change as Google updates Gemini, but the controls are documented in the activity-management help page. Use the following sequence to verify your account before a sensitive conversation.
- Open Gemini’s activity controls. In the Gemini app or the Google Account area linked from Gemini, open Gemini Apps Activity management. Use Google’s Manage and delete your activity in Gemini Apps page if the menu location differs on your device.
- Check Keep Activity. Confirm whether Gemini Apps Activity is on or off. If it is on, Live recordings, transcripts, and other shared content can be saved there under Google’s stated policy.
- Review the separate audio and Live-recording improvement control. Google says use of Live audio, video, and screen shares for improvement is off by default. Enabling it requires Keep Activity to be on.
- Review existing activity. Use the activity page to inspect and delete Gemini Apps Activity. Deleting saved activity does not change what a currently running Live session can see, so stop or pause sharing separately.
- Check Connected Apps. Verify which integrations are enabled for your account before asking Live to use Calendar, Keep, Tasks, Home, Spotify, YouTube, or another supported service. On a work or school account, contact the administrator if an integration or activity control is unavailable.
- Set the Live inputs for each session. Start with the microphone only. Turn on the camera or screen share only when needed, and stop each one independently when finished. For screen sharing, inspect the Screen Sharing notification to confirm that sharing has ended.
Practical privacy checks before you use Live
Before turning on the camera
- Ask people in view for permission, especially in meetings, classrooms, homes, or public spaces where others may be identifiable.
- Point the camera only at the object or scene needed for your question.
- Remember that leaving Gemini or locking the screen stops the camera stream, but continuing a held session can resume it.
Before sharing your screen
- Read the screen-sharing confirmation and remember that the full screen, not just one app window, is sent.
- Dismiss notification previews and close messaging, banking, medical, identity, or work systems before starting.
- Do not navigate to a password, one-time code, private document, or customer record while sharing.
- Use Gemini’s stop control or the phone’s Screen Sharing notification as soon as the task is complete.
For sensitive spoken conversations
- Mute the microphone when you need a private aside; check that camera or screen sharing is also off if those inputs were active.
- Put Live on hold or end it rather than relying only on microphone mute when you need all Live interaction to pause.
- Review Keep Activity and the separate improvement setting before discussing confidential information.
What the settings do—and do not—promise
Keep Activity off is a retention reduction, not a no-processing mode. Google still describes up to 72 hours of storage for providing Live and processing feedback. The setting also does not prevent the service from receiving information during an active session; it changes the account-activity storage arrangement.
The raw-media improvement setting is separate. Google says Live audio, video, and screen shares are not used to improve services by default. If you enable the separate control, Google says Keep Activity must be on. This distinction prevents a common mistake: treating transcript handling and raw audio/video handling as one switch.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Stopping one input is not stopping every input. Muting the microphone does not stop an already active camera or screen share. Camera and screen sharing have independent controls and different automatic stop behavior.

Managed accounts can override personal expectations. A school or employer can control activity settings, retention, and Connected App availability through Workspace administration. Ask the administrator which policy applies before using Live for organizational information.
Questions readers commonly ask
Does Gemini Live automatically see my camera?
No. Camera video is an additional stream that you turn on. It stops when Live is put on hold, when you leave Gemini, or when the screen locks, according to Google’s Live instructions.
Does screen sharing show only the app I choose?
Google says the full phone screen is shared with Gemini. Any notification or content visible during the share can therefore be included.
What happens if I turn Keep Activity off?
Google says Live chats can still be stored in the Google Account for up to 72 hours to provide the service and process feedback. Keep Activity off does not eliminate processing during the session.
Are Live recordings used to train or improve Google’s AI?
Google says Live audio, video, and screen shares are not used for improvement by default. A separate setting can allow that use, and Google says Keep Activity must be on for the setting to be enabled. Google also says transcripts may be used to improve Google services when Keep Activity is on.
