IO Interactive recommends Path Tracing High at up to 4K for an RTX 5090 in 007 First Light, with DLSS Super Resolution set to Auto and Multi Frame Generation enabled. Its published 200+ FPS figure for the RTX 5090 specifically uses 6X Frame Generation—not 2X—and is not a measured result for a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5090 system. The studio’s guidance is useful for choosing settings, but it does not establish how that exact build performs with 2X Frame Generation.
What path-tracing settings does IO Interactive recommend for an RTX 5090?
In its September 25, 2026 settings guidance, IO Interactive recommends Path Tracing High for the RTX 5090 and says resolution can be set up to 4K. Its suggested performance options are NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution on Auto and Multi Frame Generation enabled. Players can select a 2X through 6X multiplier or use Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. High is not a cost-free quality switch: IOI says it uses higher-quality shading and reflection detail and more ray bounces than Medium, so it demands more GPU resources. The studio calls Medium its balanced recommendation for other supported cards, including RTX 5070 at 1080p and RTX 5080 at 1440p; its guidance singles out the RTX 5090 for High.

IO Interactive says an RTX 5090 can achieve 200+ FPS with 6X DLSS Frame Generation. That figure is a vendor expectation tied to a particular generation multiplier, not a reported native rendering rate, and it does not demonstrate performance with 2X Frame Generation. Generated-frame output and the rate at which the game renders base frames are different measures; an FPS figure is incomplete unless it identifies which one it represents and states the generation setting.

The same announcement estimates around 60 FPS for an RTX 5070 at 1080p and an RTX 5080 at 1440p, each using Medium path tracing and recommended settings. IOI qualifies these estimates by mission and checkpoint. They are not measurements of the RTX 5090 configuration.
Why the FAQ’s 4K figure is not a path-tracing benchmark
IO Interactive’s PC FAQ lists an Ultra tier described as 4K at 200+ FPS using DLSS 4.5. The hardware listed for that tier is an RTX 5080, a Ryzen 7 7700X or Intel Core i5-13600K, and 32 GB of RAM. The FAQ does not identify this as a path-tracing result, nor does it make it a benchmark for an RTX 5090, a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, or 2X Frame Generation. What is known—and unknown—about a 9800X3D and RTX 5090 with 2X FG?
The official sources establish that path tracing is available and that IOI recommends High at up to 4K for an RTX 5090. They do not provide a direct benchmark for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5090 at 2X Frame Generation. Without measurements from that exact setup, there is no sourced basis to claim a specific FPS result, whether the game holds a target frame rate, or how much performance changes between missions.
For a reproducible performance report, record the game version, mission and checkpoint, output resolution, path-tracing quality, DLSS Super Resolution mode, and Frame Generation multiplier. Report rendered base FPS separately from generated output FPS. These details matter because the studio says performance varies by mission and checkpoint, and because a 6X generated-frame figure cannot be treated as a 2X or native-FPS result.

Why settings may need adjustment
IO Interactive describes the game as graphically demanding with path tracing and acknowledged player reports of performance problems after the feature update. It says later hotfixes improved visuals, performance, and the path-tracing setup experience. That makes the game version and scene important context for any results; the published recommendations are guidance, not a guarantee that every checkpoint behaves identically. Practical starting point for an RTX 5090
- Select Path Tracing High and start at your intended resolution, up to 4K, following IOI’s RTX 5090 recommendation.
- Set DLSS Super Resolution to Auto and enable Multi Frame Generation. Choose the multiplier you intend to use—2X through 6X—or Dynamic Multi Frame Generation; do not use IOI’s 6X FPS expectation as a prediction for another mode.
- Check representative missions and checkpoints. If performance is unsatisfactory, compare a lower path-tracing quality or resolution, changing one setting at a time so its effect is clear.
- When sharing results, identify the exact configuration and metric. Include the game version, scene, resolution, quality setting, DLSS mode, multiplier, and separate base-rendered FPS from generated-frame output.
Other PC requirements and offline play
IO Interactive lists Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), an SSD, and 80 GB of storage for the PC version. Its FAQ also includes lower 1080p/30 FPS Low and 1080p/60 FPS Medium tiers, but those are not evidence for path-tracing performance on an RTX 5090. The FAQ’s minimum CPU entry appears as “i5-95000,” so it is not a reliable basis for identifying a processor model.
IOI says an internet connection is required once to download the Day 1 patch; after that, the full main campaign can be played offline. It recommends online play for features such as leaderboards and challenges. The official FAQ covers PC requirements and offline play.
