For the documented Starlink Standard 4 X system, installation requires the supplied terminal, Router 3, cables, power supply and kickstand, plus a location with an unobstructed view of the sky. You can normally perform the basic setup yourself with the Starlink app. A separate wall, roof or pole mount may be needed for a permanent elevated installation.
Important India qualification: the official material available for this guide does not confirm current Starlink service eligibility, kit inventory, accessory stock or installer coverage for any particular Indian address. Treat the equipment list below as the documented Standard 4 X configuration, then verify the live India order flow before buying equipment or booking installation.
What comes in the documented Standard 4 X kit?
Starlink’s Standard 4 X setup guide identifies six principal items. The list is model-specific; Starlink publishes separate guides for other hardware generations, so do not assume every Starlink kit has the same router, connector or mounting arrangement.
| Item | Purpose | Published specification or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Starlink terminal | The outdoor satellite antenna that communicates with satellites. | Part of the Standard 4 X kit; other generations may differ. |
| Kickstand | Holds the terminal for a ground-level setup or an initial connection test. | Included with the documented kit. It is not described as a permanent elevated roof or wall mount. |
| Router 3 | Connects the terminal to your local Wi-Fi network and household devices. | Use the router and port arrangement shown for the Standard 4 X model. |
| Starlink cable | Carries the terminal connection to the router. | 15 m (49.2 ft) supplied length. |
| AC power cable | Connects the power supply to an electrical outlet. | 1.5 m (4.92 ft) supplied length. |
| Power supply unit | Provides power to the Starlink system. | Included; use the supplied power hardware for this kit. |
The cable lengths are equipment specifications, not estimates of how far your dish can be from the router or outlet. Measure the intended route, including the distance down a wall or through a roof entry, before deciding where the terminal can sit.

Check India availability before purchasing anything
The setup and installation pages used for this explanation are official Starlink materials, but they do not establish whether service can currently be activated at a particular Indian address. They also do not establish which exact kit generation, accessory catalog or professional-installation option an Indian customer will see.
Use the current official India order process to verify, in this order:
- Whether your complete service address is eligible for an order or reservation.
- Which hardware generation and router are offered for that address.
- Whether the displayed kit includes the Standard 4 X parts listed here or a different configuration.
- Which mounts are offered or identified as compatible with that exact terminal.
- Whether installation assistance is offered locally and what terms or charges apply.
Do not substitute a marketplace listing or a mount described only as “universal” for an official compatibility check. The connector and attachment system can vary between generations.

Choose the installation site before mounting
Site selection is the most important installation decision. Starlink’s guide says the terminal needs a clear view of the sky so it can remain connected as satellites move overhead. A tree branch, pole, roof or other object in the signal path can cause service interruptions.
Use the Starlink app’s obstruction tool
- Install the Starlink app on your phone before fixing the terminal in place.
- Open the app’s obstruction-checking tool and stand at each candidate location.
- Follow the on-screen scan instructions to inspect the sky above the proposed terminal position.
- Move to another location if the scan identifies trees, buildings, poles, roof edges or other obstructions in the required view.
Perform this check at the actual height and position you plan to use. A clear patch at ground level may disappear when the terminal is moved beside a parapet, chimney or upper roof structure, while a location that looks open from a window may still be blocked above the roofline.
Plan the cable route and outlet
The supplied 15 m Starlink cable must reach from the terminal to the router without being stretched, sharply bent or exposed where it can be damaged. Identify the entry point, wall clips or conduit route, and the router location before drilling. The router also needs access to the 1.5 m AC power cable and a suitable outlet through the supplied power supply.

How to perform the basic Standard 4 X self-installation
Starlink presents the standard installation as suitable for self-installation when the site is straightforward. The following sequence follows the documented setup arrangement.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Install the app. Download and open the Starlink app on a phone or tablet that you will use during setup.
- Test the location. Use the app’s obstruction tool and choose a position with the clearest practical sky view.
- Place the terminal in the kickstand. For a first connection, use the supplied stand on stable ground or another safe, level surface. Do not treat this temporary arrangement as a permanent elevated roof installation.
- Route the terminal cable. Run the supplied 15 m cable toward the router, protecting it from sharp edges and excessive tension.
- Connect the terminal to the router. Insert the terminal cable into the router port marked with the antenna symbol, as shown in the Standard 4 X guide.
- Connect power. Attach the router to the supplied power supply and connect the AC power cable to an outlet. Make sure every connector is fully seated.
- Wait for startup and follow the app. Use the app to complete the connection and review status messages. Keep the terminal in its tested position while it establishes service.
- Secure the final arrangement. If the location works and you intend to leave the terminal elevated or exposed, disconnect power before installing the compatible permanent mount, then reconnect and confirm operation.
The precise cable ports and physical procedure above apply to the Standard 4 X arrangement described by Starlink. Other terminals can use different hardware, so consult the guide for the model shown in your order.
Kickstand, roof, wall or pole mount: which installation is appropriate?
The included kickstand solves the first placement problem but is not presented as a universal permanent mount. For an elevated installation, Starlink’s installation material identifies roof, pole and wall approaches and illustrates separate pipe-adapter, wall and pivot mounts.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
| Installation path | Best use | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Included kickstand | Ground-level placement or a short connection test. | Stable surface, unobstructed sky and protection from movement or damage. |
| Wall mount | Attaching the terminal to a suitable exterior wall. | Wall structure, safe drilling, cable entry and compatibility with the terminal generation. |
| Pipe-adapter or pole arrangement | Raising the terminal above a roof edge, vegetation or another obstruction. | Pole diameter, structural strength, wind exposure and exact adapter fit. |
| Pivot mount | Permanent installation where the mounting surface and angle require an articulated base. | Correct model, surface strength, clearance for movement and weather sealing. |
| Roof installation | Sites where the roof provides the clearest sky view. | Roof material, waterproofing, fall protection and a mount approved for that terminal. |
A roof mount is not automatically required. If the supplied kickstand gives the terminal a clear, safe ground-level view, it can be appropriate for that placement. If trees, walls or roof edges block the view, a higher position may be justified, but choose the mount only after confirming the exact hardware model and the strength of the mounting surface.
Self-installation versus professional help
When self-installation is practical
- The obstruction scan identifies a clear location without complex structural work.
- You can place the terminal safely on the ground or install the compatible mount yourself.
- The 15 m cable reaches the router along a protected route.
- You can provide a suitable outlet and keep all connectors secure and dry.
When to consider an installer
- The terminal must be mounted on a high roof, tower, pole or difficult exterior wall.
- Drilling, waterproofing, fall protection or structural reinforcement is required.
- The cable must pass through a long, exposed or technically complicated route.
- You cannot safely inspect the proposed location or work at height.
Starlink’s installation page says professional installers can help set up and activate service for unusual challenges. The available material does not prove that this service is offered in every Indian city, identify local contractors or state a fee. Confirm those details for your address rather than assuming that a generic installer listing is authorized.

Common installation problems and practical checks
The app reports interruptions or obstructions
Re-run the obstruction scan from the terminal’s actual installed position. Look for objects that were outside your initial view, especially branches, poles, parapets and roof structures. If the obstruction is permanent, move the terminal or select a compatible higher mount; changing Wi-Fi settings will not remove a blocked satellite view.

The terminal does not power up
Check that the AC cable is connected to the power supply and outlet, that the power supply is connected to the router, and that the router connection is fully seated. Test the outlet with another known-working device, then inspect the cable for visible damage. Avoid forcing a connector or operating damaged wiring.
The router and terminal are not communicating
Power down the system, reseat the terminal cable in the router’s antenna-marked port, and reconnect power. Verify that the cable is the one supplied for the Standard 4 X kit or an officially compatible replacement for that model. If the problem persists, use the app’s support path and provide the exact hardware generation shown in your account.
The cable does not reach
Re-measure the route, including vertical drops and service loops. Relocating the router closer to the cable entry may solve the problem without moving the terminal. Do not splice the cable or purchase an unverified extension; compatibility depends on the hardware generation and connector design.

The mount does not fit
Stop before drilling or modifying the terminal. Compare the mount’s stated model compatibility with the exact Starlink hardware in your order. A wall, pipe-adapter or pivot mount shown for one generation is not automatically suitable for another.
