Replicate’s fishwowater/trellis2 takes an image and can generate a 3D model file in GLB format plus a rendered video preview. You can try it in the hosted interface without setting up a local GPU. Start with the default settings, then adjust output controls only if you have a specific reason; the defaults are not guaranteed to suit every image.
What TRELLIS.2 does
TRELLIS.2 is an image-to-3D model. The Replicate listing describes it as a 4-billion-parameter model and labels its outputs model_file and video. The underlying Microsoft project describes O-Voxel, its sparse voxel representation, as designed for complex topology and full PBR materials. Those are project descriptions, not a guarantee that every result will be ready for production use. Replicate README · Microsoft TRELLIS.2 repository
In practical terms, you provide an image, choose whether to generate the model and preview, and run a prediction. The service handles the model execution on its infrastructure; it does not require you to own the GPU used for hosted inference.

- Open the fishwowater/trellis2 model page.
- Use the image input to provide the picture you want converted.
- For a first run, keep the displayed defaults. Video rendering and model generation are enabled by default.
- Start the prediction and wait for the result. Replicate’s page says predictions typically complete within seven minutes, but actual time can vary significantly with the input.
- When the run finishes, inspect the video preview and download the GLB model file if it was generated.
The page also documents API options in Node.js, Python, and HTTP. API calls require a Replicate access token; keep the token in an environment variable rather than embedding the secret in source code. The version-specific input definitions are listed in the version API schema.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Which settings matter to a beginner?
The versioned schema exposes more than an image field, including generation toggles and sampling controls. The listed defaults are a sensible first-run baseline, not universal best settings.
| Setting | Listed default | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Seed | 42 | A seed controls the randomization used in a run; the schema also lists randomization controls. |
| Preprocessing | Enabled | The input image is preprocessed by default. |
| Video generation | Enabled | Turn it off if you do not need a preview; the README says disabling video rendering can reduce cost, but does not guarantee a particular saving. |
| Model generation | Enabled | Leave enabled when you want the GLB asset. |
| Pipeline type | 1024_cascade |
The README says choosing a non-cascade inference mode can reduce cost; this is an option to investigate, not a tested optimization. |
| Texture size | 4096 | A texture output control listed by the schema. |
| Decimation target | 1,000,000 | A mesh output control listed by the schema. |
| Sparse structure, shape SLat, and texture SLat sampling controls | Values depend on the individual schema fields | These advanced controls are available in the version schema; beginners can leave them unchanged initially. |
| Return without background | Not stated in the cited schema summary | The schema lists this option. Check its current displayed value before changing it. |
Inputs and outputs can affect both runtime and price. Replicate’s model page displayed an approximate cost of $0.52 per run when accessed in 2026 and said cost varies significantly with inputs. Treat that as a page snapshot, not a fixed rate. Replicate model page

What the generated files contain—and what may need adjustment
The model output is a GLB, while the video is a visualization of the generated result. The Microsoft project’s example exports a .glb asset and an .mp4 visualization. Its feature description includes base color, roughness, metallic, and opacity attributes, and says O-Voxel supports open surfaces, non-manifold geometry, and internal enclosed structures. These describe the project’s representation and intended capabilities; they do not certify a particular output’s mesh quality.
One specific post-processing detail matters if the asset should appear transparent: the Microsoft README says GLB files export in opaque mode by default. The texture map can retain an alpha channel, but the material’s transparency must be connected to its opacity or alpha input in your 3D software. A downloaded model may therefore need a material adjustment before transparency displays as expected. Microsoft TRELLIS.2 repository

Hosted Replicate or local installation?
Replicate runs this model on NVIDIA A100 hardware with 80GB of memory. That is the service’s allocated hardware, not a computer specification you need to buy to use the hosted page. Local execution offers more control over the environment but shifts installation, hardware, and maintenance to you.
| Consideration | Hosted on Replicate | Local installation |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Use the model page or API; no local model installation is needed. | Requires setting up the project and its software environment; the README warns that setup and boot can take a long time. |
| GPU | Replicate lists NVIDIA A100 (80GB) as its hosted hardware; you do not supply it. | The Microsoft repository says its current tested setup requires Linux and an NVIDIA GPU with at least 24GB of memory. It reports verification on A100 and H100 GPUs. |
| Software prerequisites | Not needed on your computer for the hosted interface. | The repository recommends CUDA Toolkit 12.4, recommends Conda, and requires Python 3.8 or higher. |
| Cost and upkeep | Pay per hosted prediction; the displayed price can vary with inputs. | You provide compute and maintain the software environment. The cited sources do not establish a break-even point against hosted runs. |
| Environment control | Use the hosted service’s environment and available settings. | Manage the local environment yourself. |
The repository says the code is currently tested only on Linux. Check its current installation instructions before choosing a local configuration, since the tested setup and prerequisites may change. The performance timings in the repository—approximately 3 seconds at 512³, 17 seconds at 1024³, and 60 seconds at 1536³ on an NVIDIA H100—are repository-reported generation times, not Replicate’s end-to-end prediction times. Licensing and use
The Microsoft README says the model and code are released under the MIT License, while noting that some dependencies have separate licenses. Replicate also says use of its service should follow the licenses of DINOv3 and BRIA-AI (REMBG-2.0). These notices do not by themselves resolve rights for a particular input image or generated asset, or establish that every commercial use is cleared. Review the applicable project, dependency, and service terms for your use case. Microsoft TRELLIS.2 repository · Replicate model page
