The Frontpoint Hub is the control panel at the center of a Frontpoint security system: it connects sensors and compatible devices, communicates with Frontpoint over cellular and Wi-Fi, and works with the mobile app and wireless keypad to manage the system. Frontpoint documents features such as remote arming, alerts, automation and sensor-history access through its app, but those functions depend on compatible equipment and service.
What the Frontpoint Hub does
Frontpoint describes the Hub as the system’s security control device. It coordinates connected sensors and other devices, while the app and wireless keypad give you ways to manage the system. The Hub is not the same thing as the app: some functions, including remote controls, video access and automation, are app features that rely on compatible service and equipment.
Frontpoint’s Hub overview lists capacity for up to 80 sensors and says the system supports a range of Z-Wave smart devices. Its Hub Master Guide specifies support for up to 232 Z-Wave devices. These are published specifications, not independently verified performance measurements.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →How the Hub communicates
Frontpoint describes the Hub as using cellular and Wi-Fi as dual communication paths: if one path is unavailable, the other is intended to provide a backup. This is the vendor’s stated design, not a guarantee of uninterrupted communication or service. The Master Guide identifies cellular service as 4G AT&T and Wi-Fi as 2.4 GHz.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Frontpoint says connecting the Hub to Wi-Fi supports more frequent software updates and quicker reporting of system and sensor status in the app or website. See its instructions for connecting a panel to Wi-Fi with the Frontpoint app.
How you control the system
Wireless keypad
Frontpoint’s Hub overview says the system includes a wireless keypad that can be used up to 100 feet from the Hub, and that up to four additional keypads may be added. The Master Guide separately discusses keypad and touchscreen combinations. Because the overview and technical guide describe accessory limits differently, confirm what applies to your specific system before planning a particular keypad or touchscreen setup.

Frontpoint app
According to Frontpoint’s app feature list, the app can remotely arm and disarm the system, show live or saved camera video, control connected smart devices, add equipment, configure event-based automation and display up to 90 days of system and sensor history. It also lists custom notifications, geofence-related reminders, scheduled or automatic arming, scenes, user codes, in-app panic buttons and troubleshooting prompts. Availability depends on compatible service and equipment; these should not be read as functions performed locally by the Hub alone.

Activating a new system
Frontpoint guides new customers through interactive setup in its mobile app. The activation process starts with the six-digit code on the equipment box. Frontpoint says the app is designed to guide customers who have not installed a security system before; that description does not guarantee every setup will be effortless.

Replacing an existing panel
Existing customers are directed to a “Panel Swap” flow in the app. Frontpoint says it activates the replacement Hub, connects it to Wi-Fi, transfers sensors and checks existing user codes. Equipment purchased directly from Frontpoint may already be learned into the Hub. Z-Wave devices, whether purchased from Frontpoint or a third party, must be cleared and learned into the replacement Hub.

Capacity and published specifications
Frontpoint’s overview and Master Guide use different labels for user-related capacity. Do not treat “users” and “user codes” as interchangeable.
| Specification | Frontpoint-published figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Sensors | Up to 80 | Listed in both the Hub overview and Master Guide. |
| Users | Up to 40 | The Hub overview uses the term “users.” |
| User codes | Up to 50 | The Master Guide specifies “user codes”; this is a different label from the overview’s user count. |
| Z-Wave devices | Up to 232 | Specified in the Master Guide; the overview more generally says the Hub supports a range of Z-Wave devices. |
| Rechargeable battery life | Up to 24 hours | Master Guide figure for a fully charged battery; it is a vendor specification, not an independently measured result. |
| Wi-Fi | 2.4 GHz | Specified in the Master Guide. |
| Cellular | 4G AT&T | Specified in the Master Guide. |
These figures are Frontpoint-published specifications. Since the two sources differ in how they count users, confirm the applicable limit for your system with Frontpoint.

Compatibility with existing sensors and smart-home devices
Frontpoint says most of its own sensors are compatible with the Hub, but that does not establish compatibility for every older sensor or Z-Wave product. During a panel swap, Z-Wave devices need to be cleared and learned into the new Hub. Check exact model compatibility with Frontpoint before relying on a device transfer. Its sensor compatibility guidance explains the panel-swap distinction.
On ecosystem support, Frontpoint says its system is not currently compatible with Apple HomeKit and is compatible with Siri and Alexa. The available compatibility answer points to a separate third-party device catalog, but does not establish a complete list of currently supported third-party devices. Check Frontpoint’s current information for the specific device you intend to use. See its HomeKit compatibility answer.
Checking system status and responding to trouble
Frontpoint says the Hub checks system aspects throughout the day and can self-diagnose issues. Its system introduction says a flashing blue light signals a trouble condition; the app provides troubleshooting steps, and pressing the white button on the rear of the Hub can announce system issues. Consult the Frontpoint Hub system introduction for its description of these indicators.

Frontpoint also describes a walk-through system test as optional. It advises against intentionally triggering environmental sensors such as smoke/heat, carbon monoxide and flood sensors except during a real alarm event.
Quick Recap
What to check before relying on a feature
- Confirm the specific sensor, Z-Wave device, keypad or touchscreen is supported by your Hub and service.
- For a panel replacement, account for the extra clearing and learning step for Z-Wave devices.
- Check which user-related capacity applies: the overview lists users, while the Master Guide lists user codes.
- Treat cellular fallback, battery life and update behavior as Frontpoint’s stated design and specifications, not independent reliability guarantees.
