Tesla’s driver-assistance features can steer and control speed, and Full Self-Driving (Supervised) may also handle tasks such as lane changes, turns, route choices and parking on eligible vehicles. They do not make a Tesla autonomous: the driver must keep watching the road, remain responsible for safe operation and be ready to take control immediately.
What Tesla assisted driving can do
Tesla describes Full Self-Driving (Supervised) as a suite of advanced driver-assistance features. Depending on the vehicle and where it is being used, it may make lane changes, follow navigation route choices, move around other vehicles or objects, make left and right turns, and assist with parking. Eligible vehicles may also offer Summon functions. These are conditional capabilities, not a promise that the system will handle every road situation. Tesla’s feature page says availability can vary by vehicle configuration, hardware, software version, region, trim and model year.
Tesla’s Model S manual says FSD (Supervised) uses exterior cameras to build a model of the area around the vehicle, which the onboard computer processes. That description does not mean the system will detect or respond correctly to every hazard. Tesla’s Model S Owner’s Manual describes the system as supervised driving assistance.
What the driver must still do
- Watch the road and surroundings. Monitor traffic, pedestrians, cyclists and changing conditions rather than relying on the vehicle to notice everything.
- Stay ready to take over. Be able to steer, brake or otherwise act immediately whenever conditions call for it.
- Remain responsible for safe operation. Tesla says the feature does not make the vehicle autonomous. Its Model S manual states: “You must remain attentive and be ready to take over at all times while Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is engaged.”
- Use judgment at intersections and in local conditions. Decide whether it is safe and legal to proceed; the system’s assistance does not make that decision for you.
- Take control promptly if assistance ends. If the system disengages or becomes unavailable, respond to its alert and take over steering.
Tesla’s legal information also says drivers are responsible for safe vehicle operation and should use the feature only when safe and legal.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When intervention may be needed
Tesla’s Model S manual identifies narrow roads with oncoming traffic, construction zones and complex intersections as situations where intervention may be required. Blind corners, crossing intersections and other narrow driving situations also call for particular care. These examples are not a complete list; the driver must assess the conditions as they arise.
If FSD (Supervised) becomes unavailable, Tesla says an alert and chime notify the driver and instruct them to take control of steering immediately. Driver monitoring does not change the driver’s responsibility: Tesla warns that monitoring may not work perfectly in every condition, and the absence of an alert does not mean it is safe to stop paying attention. See the manual’s FSD (Supervised) limitations and disengagement guidance.

How Autopilot and FSD (Supervised) differ
For a practical comparison, consider the driving situations and maneuvers supported, whether the feature is available for your vehicle and region, how intervention is handled, and how access is provided. Tesla’s feature names and exact capabilities vary by market and vehicle, so a general description of “Autopilot” or FSD should not be assumed to apply to every Tesla. Consult the support page and the manual for the specific vehicle before relying on a feature.
