FE means “Fan Edition.” Samsung uses the label for Galaxy devices built around features it says customers value most, based on feedback from its flagship products. It is a product-family name, not a universal specification or promise that every FE phone matches a Galaxy S flagship.
The exact hardware, software, price, storage, connectivity and availability depend on the model and market. Samsung also applies FE to tablets and earbuds, so “Galaxy FE” does not refer only to smartphones.
What does FE stand for on a Samsung phone?
Samsung says FE stands for “Fan Edition.” In Samsung’s explanation, each generation starts with feedback about the flagship Galaxy S line. Samsung then develops an FE device around selected features that people particularly appreciate. The company presents this as a way to focus on meaningful experiences instead of treating every flagship specification as equally important.
That description is Samsung’s product positioning. It explains the intended role of the range, but it does not create a technical standard that every FE model must meet. An FE phone can differ from the same-generation Galaxy S phone in its processor, cameras, materials, display characteristics, charging, storage options, connectivity, software support or price. Those details have to be checked for the exact model sold in your country.

How Samsung’s Fan Edition approach works
Features are selected, not copied wholesale
An FE model is not simply a flagship phone with a different name. Samsung chooses a set of capabilities it believes will matter most to the intended audience, then designs the rest of the device around that selection. The result may preserve a flagship-style camera experience or display feature while making a different decision about another component.
This is why “FE” should be read as a design strategy rather than a ranking. The label does not mean “all flagship specifications at a lower price,” and it does not tell you whether a particular FE phone is faster, smaller, lighter or better for photography than a non-FE Galaxy model.

Samsung’s first Galaxy S FE launch covered by the cited material was the Galaxy S20 FE, announced in the United States on September 23, 2020. Samsung said it selected popular Galaxy S20-series features, including a smooth-scrolling display, an AI-powered camera, an advanced chipset, fast connectivity, an all-day battery and expandable storage, while using a streamlined premium design.
Those examples show how Samsung described the selection process at that time. They are not a permanent checklist for every later FE phone. For example, the presence or absence of expandable storage, a particular chipset or a specific display technology must be confirmed on the model’s own specification page.

Galaxy FE includes tablets and earbuds, not only phones
Samsung uses the Fan Edition name across several Galaxy product categories. The United Kingdom explainer accessed on October 13, 2026, listed these devices:

- Galaxy S26 FE
- Galaxy S25 FE
- Galaxy S23 FE
- Galaxy S21 FE
- Galaxy Tab S10 FE
- Galaxy Tab S10 FE+
- Galaxy Tab S9 FE
- Galaxy Tab S9 FE+
- Galaxy Buds FE
The list is market-specific and may change. A tablet or pair of earbuds carrying FE follows the same broad idea—selected Galaxy features shaped by user feedback—but its capabilities and compromises are entirely different from those of an FE phone.
For a dated cross-category example, Samsung Business Insights grouped Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Galaxy Buds FE as members of the Galaxy Fan Edition family in an overview published October 3, 2024. That article is useful for understanding the family concept, but it is not a current catalog. See Samsung Business Insights.
What is the latest Samsung FE phone?
On the Samsung UK page accessed October 13, 2026, Samsung identifies the Galaxy S26 FE as its latest FE smartphone. Samsung Mobile Press announced the phone on August 27, 2026, and said it would be available from September 4 in select markets. “Select markets” does not mean worldwide availability, so a model number, launch date, price and carrier configuration can differ by country.

Samsung’s announcement describes the S26 FE with the following manufacturer-published features:

| Area | Samsung’s published S26 FE detail |
|---|---|
| Software | One UI 9 and Galaxy AI features |
| Video and camera features | My FanCam video subject tracking; Super Steady with Horizontal Lock; 3x optical zoom; enhanced 12 MP front camera |
| Battery | 4,900 mAh |
| Charging | 45 W adapter charging; Samsung says up to 69% charge in around 30 minutes with a 45 W adapter |
| Display | 6.7-inch AMOLED display with refresh rates up to 120 Hz |
These are Samsung’s specifications and feature descriptions, not results from an independent performance test. The charging figure depends on Samsung’s stated use of a 45 W adapter, and an adapter may not be included with the phone in every sales package. Check the regional listing for the in-box contents and compatible charger requirements.
Samsung Mobile Press describes the S26 FE in more detail at its August 27, 2026 announcement. Samsung executive vice president Jay Kim said the device was “purposefully designed to deliver the signature strengths of the Galaxy S series, ensuring that every feature makes a meaningful difference in users’ daily lives.” That is a statement of Samsung’s design intent, not an independent assessment of the phone.
What the FE label does—and does not—tell you
| The label can tell you | The label cannot tell you by itself |
|---|---|
| Samsung positions the device around selected features informed by feedback. | Which processor the phone uses. |
| The product belongs to the Galaxy Fan Edition family. | How its camera hardware compares with a flagship. |
| It may share some experiences or software ideas with Galaxy S products. | The display size, panel type or refresh-rate range. |
| It is part of a broader FE range that also includes tablets and earbuds. | The battery capacity, charging speed or whether a charger is supplied. |
| The model name identifies a particular generation, such as S26 FE or S24 FE. | The retail price, storage/RAM options, carrier compatibility or local release date. |
There is no fixed FE processor, camera system, display specification, support period or discount percentage that applies to every generation. A phone’s “FE” suffix therefore cannot replace reading the full regional specification sheet.
How to compare an FE phone with a regular Galaxy S model
If you are deciding between an FE phone and a non-FE Galaxy model, compare same-market versions rather than relying on the suffix. A model sold in one region can use a different chipset, storage configuration, network bands or price from a similarly named device elsewhere.

- Confirm the exact model and region. Record the complete model name, storage capacity and whether the listing is unlocked or tied to a carrier. Verify that the phone supports the mobile bands and eSIM or SIM arrangement you need.
- Compare current prices and offers. Use the price shown for your country at the time of purchase. Do not use the $699 S20 FE 5G launch figure as a current benchmark; it belongs to the United States announcement from 2020.
- Check the chipset and memory. Processor choice affects gaming, camera processing, battery behavior and long-term performance. Compare the actual chip and RAM/storage combination in each regional listing.
- Inspect the display. Compare screen size, panel technology, resolution, brightness claims and maximum refresh rate. A 120 Hz display, for example, does not by itself describe brightness or color accuracy.
- Break down the cameras. Look at sensor hardware, optical versus digital zoom, stabilization, front-camera resolution and the software features you will use. Samsung’s S26 FE announcement specifically lists 3x optical zoom, My FanCam and Super Steady with Horizontal Lock; other generations can differ.
- Compare battery and charging. Check capacity, wired and wireless charging support, the required adapter and what is included in the box. Manufacturer charge-time claims should be read with their stated adapter and test conditions.
- Verify software support and connectivity. Confirm the update policy published for the exact device, its 5G/LTE bands, Wi-Fi generation, Bluetooth version and regional payment or emergency-calling compatibility.
- Check physical details and accessories. Dimensions, weight, water resistance, case fit and screen-protector compatibility can vary even within the Galaxy S family. Do not assume an accessory fits because two phones share the FE name.
This method avoids the two common mistakes: assuming FE is automatically a bargain, or assuming it is automatically inferior. The right choice depends on which features you value and which differences you are willing to accept.
Why Samsung calls these phones “Fan Edition”
The word “fan” refers to the feedback-led selection Samsung describes, not to a membership program or a special owner status. Samsung’s explanation is that people identify favorite Galaxy features and the company builds an edition centered on those priorities. The branding is intended to signal familiarity with the Galaxy S experience while allowing Samsung to make model-specific trade-offs.
That also explains why two FE generations can feel different. User priorities, component availability, software features and market requirements change. The S20 FE launch emphasized expandable storage and the feature set Samsung selected in 2020; the S26 FE announcement emphasizes One UI 9, Galaxy AI, camera tracking, optical zoom, a 4,900 mAh battery and 45 W charging. The label stayed the same, but the implementation evolved.

Samsung’s FE pages and announcements do not establish one worldwide price or a universal release schedule. The S26 FE announcement says availability begins September 4 in select markets, while the current UK explainer identifies it as the latest FE phone for that market. A phone can therefore appear on Samsung’s website in one country before it is sold in another, or launch with different storage and connectivity options.

Common misunderstandings about Galaxy FE
“FE” does not mean a refurbished phone
Fan Edition is a new-product designation in Samsung’s Galaxy range. It does not describe a returned, repaired or refurbished device. Refurbished status is a separate condition that a retailer must disclose.
FE does not always mean “cheap”
Samsung’s original S20 FE announcement described an accessible price point, but that historical wording does not establish a fixed discount for later models. An FE phone may cost less than a same-generation flagship in one market, yet offers and launch prices vary. Compare the current listings instead of inferring a percentage from the name.
FE does not guarantee flagship equivalence
Samsung says FE devices include selected favored features. It does not say every component is identical to the corresponding Galaxy S flagship. Camera sensors, processors, materials, charging systems and support details may differ, and those differences can matter more than the shared software design.
Every FE phone is not the same size or category
Galaxy S FE phones are smartphones, while Tab FE models are tablets and Buds FE are earbuds. Even within phones, generation-to-generation dimensions, cameras and batteries can change. Always read the model-specific documentation.
Is a Samsung Galaxy FE phone right for you?
An FE model is worth considering when the features you care about line up with Samsung’s selected package and the local price is attractive. It can be a sensible fit if you want Galaxy software, camera tools or display features without paying for every top-tier component in a flagship.
A regular Galaxy S model may make more sense if you need a particular processor, the highest-end camera hardware, a specific material, maximum storage, a smaller or larger form factor, or a connectivity option that the FE model does not offer. The deciding evidence is the specification and price of the exact two phones—not the letters FE alone.

Samsung Galaxy FE means “Fan Edition”: a Galaxy product designed around selected features and feedback that Samsung says fans value. The name identifies Samsung’s product strategy, not a fixed specification, guaranteed discount or universal flagship equivalent. As of Samsung’s UK listing accessed October 13, 2026, Galaxy S26 FE is the latest FE phone there; Samsung announced it for select markets with One UI 9, Galaxy AI features, a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, 4,900 mAh battery and 45 W charging.
