Samsung Camera Assistant is a Good Lock module that adds switches for the stock Galaxy Camera. It lets you decide how HDR, image processing, lens changes, timer bursts, shutter speed, recording behavior, preview timeout and HDMI output work instead of accepting every camera automation. Samsung first documented it for the Galaxy S22 series on One UI 5 or later; Samsung Indonesia later documented it on the Galaxy A57 5G and A37 5G. Support is not universal, however: the available module and individual controls can vary by exact model, market, carrier and One UI build.

What Camera Assistant is

Camera Assistant does not replace Samsung Camera and is not a separate camera system. It is an add-on distributed through Samsung’s Good Lock platform. After installation, its switches appear alongside the Camera application’s settings, where they change the way the stock camera handles common automated decisions.

The purpose is control rather than a new shooting mode. You still open the normal Camera app, select Photo, Video or another available mode, and compose as usual. Camera Assistant changes what happens around that capture: whether HDR is applied, whether processing softens detail, whether the phone changes lenses, how many timer frames are taken, how quickly the shutter responds, how long the preview stays awake and what an HDMI monitor displays.

Samsung described the module as a way to “pick and choose which automated features you want to use for a fully customized shooting experience” when it introduced Camera Assistant on October 26, 2022. The exact switches shown can differ by phone, software version and selected camera mode or lens.

#1 Best Overall
Samsung Galaxy S22, 128GB, Black - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • The S22 uses a flat (non‑curved) 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 120 Hz refresh that dynamically adjusts between 48 – 120 Hz depending on content — which means smoother scrolling and better battery efficiency when high refresh isn’t needed.
  • Its main rear camera features a 50 MP sensor with what Samsung calls “Tetra‑binning,” delivering stronger detail in bright light and surprisingly good low‑light photos compared to many older flagships.
  • The build quality is designed to feel premium and durable: it uses an Armor Aluminum frame combined with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on front and back, which gives better scratch and drop resistance — nice if you want a relatively compact but rugged flagship.
  • For video content and editing, the S22 supports 8K recording — rare for a “smaller” flagship. That means you can shoot very high-resolution video, useful if you care about future‑proofing footage or cropping/editing later.
  • The phone strikes a balance of compactness and performance — in a world of increasingly large phones, the S22 remains fairly pocket‑friendly while still packing the 4 nm flagship‑class chipset (Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 depending on region) for smooth daily performance.

What each Camera Assistant control does

Control What it changes When it is useful Important qualification
Auto HDR Turns the camera’s automatic HDR behavior on or off. Use it when you want to retain the phone’s HDR look or avoid HDR processing for a different rendering. Available behavior can depend on the selected mode and lens.
Soften pictures (Photo Softening) Smooths sharp edges and textures in captured photos. Useful when you prefer a less-crisp, smoother rendering, including the portrait and wide-angle use cases Samsung highlights for newer A-series phones. The result is a processing choice, not a change to the camera sensor or lens.
Auto lens switching Controls whether the camera automatically changes lenses according to zoom level, lighting and subject distance. Turn control over to the camera for convenience, or limit automatic changes when you want a more predictable lens choice. Only lenses present on the particular phone can be used, and switching rules vary by mode.
Video recording in Photo mode Controls long-press video capture from Photo mode. Helpful when you frequently switch from a still photo to a short video without changing modes first. This affects the long-press behavior; it does not add a new video format.
Timer shot count Sets how many photos are captured after the timer expires: 1, 3, 5 or 7. Choose several frames for group photos, self-portraits or scenes where a blink or movement is likely. The count is applied after the timer; it is not a continuous unlimited burst.
Faster shutter Prioritizes a faster capture response; Samsung says the setting can capture up to seven pictures per second. Useful for moving subjects when waiting for a single frame would risk missing the moment. “Up to seven” is Samsung’s stated capability, not a guaranteed rate in every mode, scene or lighting condition.
Camera timeout Sets how long the camera preview remains active before turning off: 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes. Choose a longer interval when framing a scene over time, or a shorter one when you want the display to sleep sooner. This is the camera preview timeout, not a change to the phone’s general screen-timeout setting.
Clean HDMI preview Shows the camera image on an HDMI display without camera menus or on-screen buttons. Useful when a monitor or television is being used as a larger framing display. It applies to an HDMI display path and does not remove controls from the phone’s own screen.

How the controls affect real shooting decisions

HDR and picture processing

Auto HDR and Photo Softening address different parts of the image pipeline. HDR determines whether the camera automatically combines or tones a scene for high-dynamic-range rendering. Photo Softening changes the perceived crispness of edges and textures. Because they are separate switches, changing one does not inherently change the other. If a scene looks too processed, test Auto HDR and Photo Softening independently so you know which adjustment produced the difference.

Lens behavior

Auto lens switching is about the phone’s decision to move among its available cameras. Samsung says that decision can consider zoom, lighting and subject distance. A phone with fewer physical lenses will expose fewer choices than a model with a wider camera array. If a framing changes unexpectedly, check this switch before assuming the camera hardware is malfunctioning; the option can be unavailable in some modes.

Capturing motion

Faster shutter and timer shot count solve different timing problems. Faster shutter is intended for a moving subject and Samsung states a maximum of seven pictures per second. Timer shot count is for a delayed capture, such as stepping into a group photo, and offers fixed choices of 1, 3, 5 or 7 frames. For a person running through a scene, Faster shutter is the relevant control; for a self-timer pose, increase the timer count instead.

Preview, recording and display

Video recording in Photo mode changes the response to a long press while you are in Photo mode. Camera timeout controls how long that preview stays on, with four values from one to ten minutes. Clean HDMI preview affects the image sent to an HDMI display by hiding menus and buttons, which keeps the external view uncluttered while the phone remains the control surface.

How to install Camera Assistant

  1. Open the Galaxy Store and install Good Lock if it is not already on the phone.
  2. Launch Good Lock and open the Life up section.
  3. Select Camera Assistant, then use the download or install controls shown for your device.
  4. After installation, open Camera Assistant from Good Lock, or open the Camera app and look in Camera settings for its entry.
  5. Open each available switch and read the option label before changing it. The list on your phone is the authoritative list for that model and One UI build.

Samsung also describes Camera Assistant as downloadable directly from the Galaxy Store. Store availability and the path into Camera settings can differ by software release, so an installed module may be easiest to launch from Good Lock when the Camera settings shortcut is not shown.

Which Galaxy phones support Camera Assistant?

Samsung’s public examples establish support for the following devices and software combinations, but they are not an exhaustive worldwide compatibility list.

Galaxy device or family Documented requirement or availability What the evidence establishes
Galaxy S22 series One UI 5 or later Samsung announced Camera Assistant for S22 devices running One UI 5 or later. Rollout timing could vary by market, model and network provider.
Galaxy A57 5G Included through Good Lock in Samsung Indonesia’s 2026 guidance Samsung Indonesia explicitly identifies the module as available on this model and discusses its controls.
Galaxy A37 5G Included through Good Lock in Samsung Indonesia’s 2026 guidance Samsung Indonesia explicitly identifies the module as available on this model and discusses its controls.

Do not infer that every Galaxy S, A, Z or M model supports the module because one phone in that family does. Samsung says Good Lock application availability and settings may vary by device and software version, and individual Camera Assistant features can depend on the selected mode or lens. A model can therefore have the module while exposing fewer switches than another model.

Why Camera Assistant may be missing

The phone or build is not supported

The most common explanation is that the exact model, One UI release or regional software package is outside the supported combination. Check Settings > About phone > Software information for the One UI version, then compare the Galaxy Store listing and Good Lock screen on that same device. The S22 announcement specifies One UI 5 or later, while the A57 5G and A37 5G availability is explicitly documented by Samsung Indonesia; neither statement proves worldwide support for every related model.

Good Lock is unavailable in the region

Good Lock distribution is not identical in every country or through every carrier. If Good Lock itself is absent from the Galaxy Store, Camera Assistant cannot be installed through the documented route. Avoid treating an unavailable store listing as proof that the camera hardware lacks the capability; it may be a regional software-distribution issue.

The module is installed but not visible in Camera settings

Open Good Lock and start Camera Assistant directly. Samsung says the module can be opened from the Camera app’s Settings menu after installation, but the shortcut may not appear on every build. Restarting the Camera app after installation and checking for updates in Galaxy Store are sensible first steps; if the module still does not appear, the build may not expose that integration.

A particular switch is absent

Feature-level differences are expected. Samsung notes that settings can vary by device and software version, and that individual features may depend on the selected mode or lens. Test the option in the standard Photo mode first, then check again with the lens or mode you intend to use. A missing control is not necessarily an installation failure.

Camera Assistant guidance for Galaxy A57 5G and A37 5G

Samsung Indonesia’s 2026 newsroom guidance calls out three practical choices for these two models:

Rank #4
Samsung Galaxy S22 5G, US Version, 128GB, Pink Gold - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • The S22 uses a flat (non‑curved) 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 120 Hz refresh that dynamically adjusts between 48 – 120 Hz depending on content — which means smoother scrolling and better battery efficiency when high refresh isn’t needed.
  • Prioritize Focus Over Speed: use this emphasis when keeping a moving subject sharply focused matters more than the quickest possible capture response.
  • Photo Softening and Distortion Correction: Samsung highlights these for more natural-looking portraits and wide-angle scenes. Photo Softening changes edge and texture rendering; Distortion Correction addresses the appearance of wide-angle geometry.
  • Dim Screen While Recording: use it during long recordings to reduce screen power use. It changes the display brightness behavior while recording, not the recorded video itself.

Samsung Indonesia frames these controls as a way for casual users to obtain sharper and more consistent photos and videos without complicated manual adjustments or repeated retakes. The company’s article places the guidance in the context of Indonesia’s visual-content audience, citing 108 million Instagram users and 151 million YouTube users in Indonesia from DataReportal in 2026. Those audience figures describe the market context; they are not a performance measurement of Camera Assistant.

How to choose a supported Galaxy phone for Camera Assistant

If Camera Assistant is a deciding factor, compare phones on more than the name of the module. Use this checklist before buying or changing devices:

  • Exact One UI build: confirm the phone is running a version for which Camera Assistant is offered, rather than relying on the product family name.
  • Individual controls: verify that the specific switches you need—such as Faster shutter, Clean HDMI preview or Prioritize Focus Over Speed—are listed for that model.
  • Camera hardware: lens-switching behavior depends on which physical cameras the phone has, so identical software labels do not create identical framing options.
  • Region and carrier: Good Lock and Camera Assistant distribution can vary by market and network provider.
  • Updates: check the phone’s update policy and current One UI release, because Samsung can change available settings with software.
  • Price: compare the complete phone, not just the presence of a free module; Camera Assistant cannot add a missing lens or sensor.

For an existing phone, the Galaxy Store listing and the Camera Assistant screen on that device provide a more reliable answer than a generic compatibility list. Availability can change as Samsung expands or limits the module by software release.

Practical setup recipes

Group or self-timer photos

  1. Open Camera Assistant from Good Lock or Camera settings.
  2. Set Timer shot count to 3, 5 or 7 instead of the single-frame option.
  3. Set the Camera app’s normal timer, take your position and let the camera capture the selected number of frames.
  4. Review the frames and keep the one with the best expression and focus.

Fast-moving subjects

  1. Enable Faster shutter when you need a rapid sequence; Samsung specifies up to seven pictures per second.
  2. On models that expose it, consider Prioritize Focus Over Speed when sharp focus is more important than the shortest capture delay.
  3. Use the same mode and lens you normally shoot with, because feature availability and behavior can change by mode or lens.

Long recordings or an external monitor

  1. Choose a suitable Camera timeout value—1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes—so the preview does not turn off while you are preparing a shot.
  2. On A57 5G or A37 5G devices where it is shown, enable Dim Screen While Recording for long recordings if reducing display power use is a priority.
  3. When sending the camera to an HDMI display, enable Clean HDMI preview to remove menus and buttons from the external image.

Limits and expectations

  • Camera Assistant customizes Samsung’s stock camera; it does not turn a phone into a different camera platform.
  • Controls are conditional. A switch can be present in the module yet unavailable in a particular camera mode or with a particular lens.
  • “Up to seven pictures per second” is Samsung’s stated ceiling for Faster shutter, not a promise that every scene will reach that rate.
  • The S22, A57 5G and A37 5G examples do not constitute a complete global support list.
  • Regional, carrier and software differences can affect both installation and the number of settings shown.
