Marvell Technology designs and sells semiconductor components for data centers, networks, storage systems, and other connected infrastructure. It does not generally sell finished computers, routers, or servers to consumers: manufacturers and distributors buy or integrate its chips into equipment used by cloud operators, businesses, telecom carriers, governments, and consumers. Data centers accounted for 74% of Marvell’s fiscal 2026 revenue.
What Marvell makes
Marvell is a fabless semiconductor company: it develops chip designs and related technologies, then sells semiconductor products rather than finished consumer devices. Its fiscal 2026 Form 10-K describes its business as supplying data-infrastructure semiconductor solutions spanning data centers to the network edge. Its portfolio includes both standard products and custom silicon designed to meet individual customers’ requirements. “Fabless” describes its business model; it does not mean that Marvell sells a complete finished system under its own brand.
These components perform specific jobs inside larger systems: processing network traffic, moving data between chips or locations, managing memory and storage, or accelerating specialized workloads. A Marvell chip in a server or network device is one component of a system made and sold by another company. In its fiscal 2026 filing, Marvell’s listed products include custom application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), interconnect products, Ethernet solutions, Fibre Channel adapters, processors, and storage controllers.

Marvell designs ASICs for particular customer requirements and workloads. Unlike a general-purpose chip intended to serve many buyers in a similar way, a custom ASIC is designed around a specified use and a customer’s system needs. Marvell’s co-designed portfolio includes AI accelerators, memory, scale-up fabrics, security components, and co-processors. These products may be key parts of an infrastructure platform, but they are not usually standalone products that an individual buyer can select off a retail shelf.

Custom silicon is also a reason not to equate the operator of a data center with the direct purchaser of every chip inside it. Marvell says its co-design work can address a single hyperscaler’s workload and infrastructure strategy. The chip maker, equipment designer, system manufacturer, and eventual operator can be different entities. Public material establishes that Marvell serves this kind of customer-specific work, but does not reveal a comprehensive current list of hyperscaler buyers.
Marvell has also announced a collaboration with NVIDIA covering custom XPUs and NVLink Fusion-compatible scale-up networking for customers building semi-custom AI infrastructure in NVIDIA’s ecosystem. This is a named partnership and product collaboration; it does not establish a comprehensive list of Marvell’s customers or mean that every product in the collaboration is a finished device sold by Marvell. Marvell and NVIDIA announced the expanded partnership on March 31, 2026.
Optical and electrical interconnect
Data centers and communications networks need to move large amounts of data between servers, switches, storage, and facilities. Marvell’s interconnect portfolio includes pulse-amplitude-modulation (PAM) and coherent and coherent-lite digital signal processors (DSPs), laser drivers, trans-impedance amplifiers, silicon photonics, co-packaged and linear pluggable optics chipsets, data-center interconnect products, active electrical cable DSPs, and PCIe retimers.
These products support optical or electrical links; they are not the finished cables, switches, or data-center systems a customer typically buys. The components address different parts of transmitting, receiving, or conditioning signals, or connecting equipment across a link. The practical takeaway is that Marvell supplies technologies that help systems move data quickly and reliably, rather than selling the entire network that uses them.
Marvell’s fiscal 2026 filing also reports development work on UALink and Ethernet for Scale-Up Networking (ESUN) switches, technologies aimed at connecting computing resources within AI infrastructure. Scale-up networking is about linking resources within a system or cluster so they can operate together; it is distinct from treating the switch as a consumer-facing product. These are development efforts identified by the company, not evidence that every planned product is already a broadly available retail item.
Networking and data processing
Marvell sells Ethernet controllers, network adapters, physical transceivers, switches, physical-layer (PHY) devices, and processors for servers, data centers, enterprise networks, carriers, and edge systems. Its portfolio spans access, aggregation, and industrial switching, high-speed PHYs, Ethernet controllers, and connectivity for edge computing and security. In a finished product, these chips and boards can help send traffic across a local network, connect equipment, or provide a physical interface between devices.

Its OCTEON data processing units and multicore infrastructure processors handle tasks such as networking, security, storage, and application processing. These devices help equipment makers build systems that route, inspect, or manage traffic; they are not themselves complete routers or firewalls. A carrier or enterprise may use the finished networking equipment, but its direct supplier may be the OEM or ODM that designed and assembled it.
Memory and storage
Marvell’s memory and storage products include CXL-based memory expansion and pooling, Bravera solid-state-drive (SSD) controllers, hard-disk-drive (HDD) controllers and preamplifiers, Fibre Channel adapters and controllers, and storage accelerators. They connect, manage, or optimize memory and storage in servers and storage systems.
These product names cover distinct infrastructure roles: a controller manages interactions with a storage device, while adapters and connectivity products link storage equipment to a wider system. CXL-based memory products support memory expansion and pooling. Marvell’s filing includes storage and memory alongside its networking, compute, and interconnect products because data infrastructure depends on those functions working together; it is not solely an AI accelerator supplier.
Recent portfolio additions
Marvell completed its acquisition of Celestial AI on February 2, 2026. Celestial AI’s Photonic Fabric technology is aimed at next-generation scale-up interconnect. Marvell completed its acquisition of XConn on February 10, 2026; XConn provides PCIe and CXL switching silicon. These additions extend Marvell’s work in connecting compute, memory, and other infrastructure components. The acquisition dates identify when the transactions were completed; they should not be mistaken for a claim that each technology is already deployed in every Marvell platform.
Who buys Marvell chips
Marvell identifies original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), original design manufacturers (ODMs), and distributors as its target customers. OEMs and ODMs design or manufacture the equipment that incorporates chips; distributors sell components into the supply chain. The direct buyer is therefore often a device or system maker, while the eventual user is a cloud provider, business, carrier, government organization, or consumer.

That distinction helps answer “who buys its chips?” There is not necessarily one buyer for all Marvell products. A component might be purchased by an equipment maker for a specific system, sold through a distributor, and ultimately used by an organization that never buys directly from Marvell. Marvell says its sales are aligned along key customer lines to provide integrated platforms. In other words, customer relationships can involve a coordinated portfolio of products rather than a single chip in isolation.

Marvell’s fiscal 2026 filing names a broad range of end products that can include its components:
- Cloud and data-center equipment: AI systems, servers, Ethernet switches, network-attached storage, storage systems, and data-center interconnect.
- Enterprise systems: routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, load balancers, and workstations.
- Carrier networks: broadband access equipment, optical transport systems, routers, and wireless radio access network (RAN) systems.
- Consumer electronics: broadband gateways, gaming consoles, home storage, PCs, printers, and set-top boxes.
The presence of a Marvell component in a finished product does not by itself prove that the product’s brand is a direct Marvell customer. A finished device may be designed or built by one company, purchased by another, and used by a third. Marvell’s custom silicon, in particular, is designed to individual customer specifications; its portfolio materials describe co-design that can address a single hyperscaler’s workload and infrastructure strategy. Public filings identify customer categories and certain named partnerships, but do not provide a comprehensive current list of its largest direct customers. Avoid treating a brand associated with a device containing a Marvell part as a confirmed direct customer unless the company has identified that relationship.
How much of Marvell’s business is data centers?
Marvell’s fiscal 2026 ended January 31, 2026. The company reported total revenue of $8,194.6 million, up from $5,767.3 million in fiscal 2025. Its fiscal 2026 end-market breakdown was:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| End market | Fiscal 2026 revenue | Share of total |
|---|---|---|
| Data center | $6,100.3 million | 74% |
| Communications and other | $2,094.3 million | 26% |
| Total | $8,194.6 million | 100% |
The figures show that data centers were the majority of reported revenue in fiscal 2026, but the remaining 26% matters too: Marvell also sells into communications and other markets. The company attributed fiscal 2026 data-center revenue growth to AI-related demand for custom products and electro-optics. The 74% figure is a fiscal-year end-market breakdown, not a measure of the share of individual chips that are AI products or a promise about future revenue.
In its second-quarter fiscal 2027 filing, covering the quarter ended August 1, 2026, the company reported revenue of $2.7 billion, up 37% year over year, and data-center sales growth of 46% year over year. It attributed data-center demand to a broad range of products, including electro-optics, custom silicon, storage, and switching. These are quarterly results, not full-year fiscal 2027 figures. Marvell’s SEC filings include its fiscal 2026 Form 10-K and fiscal 2027 second-quarter Form 10-Q.
Marvell says its end-market classifications consider factors such as customer type, product function, and its knowledge of the end application. The company notes that these classifications are inherently subjective and can change, so the percentages are best read as its reported attribution for that fiscal year. This caveat matters when interpreting trends: a chip can be used in a system that serves more than one market, and classification is the company’s reporting judgment.

How to compare Marvell with another chip supplier
A useful comparison is about the kind of business and product role, not just a general label like “AI chip company.” Marvell sells both standard products and optimized, customer-specific products. To compare it with another supplier, ask:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Custom or merchant silicon: Does the company co-design chips for an individual customer’s specifications, sell standard products to many buyers, or do both?
- Market exposure: How much of its business is tied to data centers and AI infrastructure, and how much to communications, enterprise, carrier, or consumer systems?
- Technical role: Is its emphasis on compute, switching, storage, optical or electrical interconnect, or a combination of those functions?
- Place in the supply chain: Does it sell semiconductor components to system makers, or finished devices directly to end users?
These questions help distinguish a component supplier from a system vendor and keep comparisons grounded in disclosed product portfolios. They also avoid assuming that two companies with exposure to AI necessarily sell interchangeable products. The publicly described product portfolios and disclosures support these comparison dimensions, but not a price comparison or a ranking of Marvell against any named competitor.
What Marvell no longer sells
Marvell completed the sale of its automotive Ethernet business to Infineon on August 14, 2025. Its fiscal 2026 filing identifies automotive Ethernet applications such as advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous vehicles, and in-vehicle networking as divested. They should be treated as former portfolio areas, not current Marvell-owned automotive Ethernet products. This distinction is important because older descriptions of Marvell may still mention those applications.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to understand Marvell’s place in a device
When you encounter Marvell’s name in connection with a server, network device, or storage product, distinguish three roles:
- Marvell supplies a component. It designs and sells semiconductor products, including standard chips and custom-designed silicon.
- A manufacturer builds the system. An OEM or ODM incorporates components from Marvell and potentially other suppliers into equipment such as a server, switch, or storage system.
- An organization or consumer uses the finished equipment. A cloud operator, business, carrier, government, or consumer uses the system for its intended purpose.
This distinction matters most with custom chips: a custom component may be built to a particular customer’s requirements, while the company operating the resulting infrastructure is not necessarily the direct purchaser named in a public filing. The available disclosures establish customer types, end markets, and selected collaborations, but do not support inferring a complete customer list from the brands of finished devices. Likewise, the available information does not support a consumer retail price for Marvell chips: these are predominantly business-to-business components designed into larger products, not typical standalone retail purchases.

Who are Marvell’s customers?
Marvell identifies OEMs, ODMs, and distributors as target customers. The eventual users of systems containing its chips can include cloud providers, businesses, carriers, government organizations, and consumers. Public filings do not provide a comprehensive current list of its largest direct customers.
Is NVIDIA a Marvell customer?
The companies announced a collaboration covering custom XPUs and NVLink Fusion-compatible scale-up networking for customers building semi-custom AI infrastructure in NVIDIA’s ecosystem. That announcement establishes a partnership and product collaboration, not a broad list of Marvell customers or a claim about every direct purchasing relationship.
What share of Marvell’s revenue comes from data centers?
Data centers represented $6,100.3 million, or 74%, of Marvell’s $8,194.6 million in fiscal 2026 revenue. Fiscal 2026 ended January 31, 2026. The company’s reported market classifications can change and are partly based on its judgment about product use and customer type.
Does Marvell still make automotive Ethernet chips?
Marvell sold its automotive Ethernet business to Infineon on August 14, 2025. Its fiscal 2026 filing describes automotive Ethernet applications such as ADAS, autonomous vehicles, and in-vehicle networking as divested former portfolio areas.
Can I buy a Marvell chip as a consumer, and what does it cost?
Marvell’s products are predominantly B2B components sold to system makers or through distributors and designed into larger systems. The article does not provide consumer retail prices, and a generic router or cable would not represent Marvell’s semiconductor business.
The Bottom Line
Marvell designs semiconductor components—not finished consumer devices—for data centers, networking, storage, and connected infrastructure. OEMs, ODMs, and distributors are its direct customer categories, while cloud operators, businesses, carriers, governments, and consumers may use the systems built with its chips. Data centers made up 74% of fiscal 2026 revenue, but Marvell’s portfolio also spans communications, enterprise, storage, and other markets.
