IP64 means the Acer Sospiro A70 is dust-tight and protected against splashing water from any direction. That makes ordinary rain and accidental splashes reasonable use cases, but it does not certify the phone for submersion, swimming, showers, pressureful water jets or other heavy water exposure. The rating describes the enclosure’s resistance to solids and water; it is not a general guarantee against drops, cracked screens, seawater, chemicals or liquid damage after repair.
IP64 explained at a glance
The IP code is a two-digit enclosure classification based on IEC 60529. The first digit addresses solid particles such as dust, while the second addresses water. For the Acer Sospiro A70, the digits should be read separately rather than treated as a single level of waterproofing.

TOYO Electric’s IEC 60529 explanation summarizes IP64 as level 6 meaning dust cannot enter and level 4 meaning splashes from any direction should not cause harmful effects. The European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) uses the same water-language in its technical table: water splashed against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
What the first digit, 6, protects against
Dust-tight enclosure protection
Level 6 is the highest solids-protection digit in the IP scale used for dust ingress. In Acer’s table, level 6 means total protection against dust ingress, with testing that uses continuous airflow. For everyday ownership, that is useful in dusty rooms, on a dry beach where sand is airborne, during travel, or when lint and fine particles might otherwise reach internal components.

Dust-tight does not mean the phone can be deliberately packed with grit or used without care in every dirty environment. The rating comes from controlled test conditions. Abrasive sand can still scratch glass, clog an exposed port opening or damage a connector if it is forced inside mechanically. Brush loose particles away rather than pushing them into a port or speaker opening.
What level 6 does not cover
- It does not rate the display against scratches or impact.
- It does not make the handset shockproof or crushproof.
- It does not certify resistance to oils, solvents, salt or other chemicals.
- It does not guarantee the same seal after a cracked housing, bent frame or third-party repair.
What the second digit, 4, protects against
Rain and ordinary splashes
Water level 4 is a splash rating. Water may strike the enclosure from any direction, and the test requires that those splashes have no harmful effects. This is why the A70 can be described as rain-protected in normal use. Walking through a typical rain shower, handling the phone with wet hands, or dealing with a brief accidental splash is consistent with the rating when the handset is intact.
Why IP64 is not an immersion rating
Level 4 stops at splashing. Acer’s comparison table separates it from level 5, which concerns water jets, and levels 7 and 8, which concern immersion. Because the A70 carries level 4 rather than a 7 or 8 water digit, the certification does not establish safe operation underwater. Do not take it swimming, drop it in a sink or pool, leave it submerged, or use it in a bath.

The rating also does not authorize sustained streams such as a shower head, faucet directed at the phone, garden hose or pressure washer. A jet applies more force and water volume than the splash test. A brief splash from a tap is a different exposure from intentionally holding the phone under the running stream.
Is the Acer Sospiro A70 waterproof?
Calling the A70 completely waterproof would be misleading. Notebookcheck’s launch report, published October 14, 2026, describes it as IP64-certified, protected against rain but not fully waterproof. The precise answer is that it is dust-tight and splash-resistant, with no cited immersion certification.
“Waterproof” is often used casually to mean any degree of water resistance. For a purchase or safety decision, use the actual code: IP64. That code supports protection from dust and splashes, not a promise that every liquid incident will be harmless.

How the rating fits the A70 hardware
Acer Mobile LATAM’s product page identifies the model as a 6.67-inch smartphone with a 5000 mAh battery and 256 GB of storage. The same page lists an included rigid silicone/PVC case and screen protector. Those accessories may help with scratches and everyday knocks, but the product information does not claim that they increase the phone’s IP rating. A case cannot turn IP64 into an immersion rating, and a screen protector cannot seal ports or seams.

Keep port openings, buttons, seams and the housing in their original condition. If the frame is cracked or the handset has been opened for repair, assume the original sealing performance may no longer apply unless Acer specifically confirms otherwise.
Common situations: what is reasonable and what is not

What to do after rain or a splash
- Move the phone away from the liquid. Stop the exposure instead of testing whether it continues to work under running water.
- Remove surface moisture. Use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth around the frame, buttons, camera area and port openings.
- Leave openings unobstructed while drying. Do not push tissue, cotton swabs or tools into a connector because they can pack moisture and fibers farther inside.
- Do not connect a charger while the port is wet. Electricity through a wet connector can cause corrosion or an electrical fault. Wait until the port and cable are visibly dry.
- Watch for delayed symptoms. Muffled audio, unreliable charging, fogging, repeated restarts or a warning about moisture justify stopping use and contacting an authorized service provider.
Do not use a hair dryer, heater or compressed air to force-dry the handset. Heat and pressure can move liquid past seals or damage components. If the phone was submerged, treat the incident as outside the certification even if it powers on normally.

Charging, ports and accessories
IP64 does not mean a charging connection is safe when wet. The rating concerns enclosure exposure in a defined test; it does not remove the hazards of moisture bridging electrical contacts. Keep the USB cable, plug and port dry, and dry a cable separately if it was splashed.
The included rigid case and screen protector are convenience and impact-surface accessories, not additional IP testing. A case with an open connector cutout cannot provide the same protection as a sealed enclosure, while a cover that traps water against a port can slow drying. Remove or inspect the case if liquid has collected between it and the handset.

Numbers should not be read as a simple promise that a higher digit survives every lower-level incident in every condition. Manufacturers specify test arrangements and limits, and warranty terms may exclude liquid damage even when a device has an IP rating. For a comparison with another phone, check its complete code, the manufacturer’s stated test conditions, warranty language, and whether the rating remains applicable after repair or port-cover wear.

When the original rating may no longer be reliable
An IP certification describes a tested enclosure, not a permanent guarantee for every individual handset. A hard drop can deform a seam without leaving an obvious crack. A damaged back, lifted screen adhesive, worn port seal or previous opening can create a path for water and dust. Because the JRC notes that an IP rating grades enclosure resistance rather than every other product specification, it cannot establish protection after structural damage or modification.
- Inspect the housing after a major drop, especially around the screen edge, back panel and connector.
- Do not assume a replacement screen or battery restores factory sealing.
- Ask the repair provider whether sealing was replaced and whether any post-repair water-resistance test was performed.
- Follow Acer’s warranty and liquid-damage terms; an IP rating alone does not promise free repair for water damage.
A practical decision rule
Use the A70 in dusty conditions and normal rain, but treat all deliberate water exposure as avoidable. If water is falling from the sky or splashes briefly onto the phone, dry it promptly. If water is surrounding the phone, being sprayed at pressure, mixed with chemicals or entering a damaged enclosure, IP64 is not a safety margin. The code’s useful boundary is simple: dust-tight plus splash-resistant, with no certification for jets or immersion.
