Amazon Kids+ is the paid subscription that adds a curated library of children’s books, games, videos, music, apps, Alexa Skills, and audiobooks. The Amazon Kids child profile and its parental controls are free on supported devices, so you do not need Kids+ to set up a child profile or use a Kids tablet. Whether the subscription is worth paying for depends on how often your child uses its included content and the current price or bundle terms.
What does Amazon Kids+ include?
Amazon describes Kids+ as a curated collection of thousands of ad-free, age-appropriate items for children. Its listed categories include books, games, videos, music, apps, Alexa Skills, and audiobooks; Amazon also mentions movies and Audible content. Examples of brands in the library include Disney, Nickelodeon, Marvel, LEGO, Sesame Street, and PBS Kids.
Those are examples of brands and content types, not a guarantee that a particular title is available in every country, on every device, or at all times. Check the service in your marketplace and on your child’s device before subscribing for a specific show, book, or app. Amazon describes availability on compatible Kindle, Fire TV, Fire Tablet, and Alexa-enabled devices, but supported features vary and the service is limited to select marketplaces. Amazon Kids device and marketplace information and Amazon’s Kids+ overview provide additional details.

| Feature | Amazon Kids | Amazon Kids+ |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A child profile and parental-control experience | A paid subscription that adds access to a curated children’s content library |
| Cost | Free to create on supported devices, according to Amazon | Paid; current standalone US prices and plan differences are not established in the cited materials |
| Content access | Parents can show a child selected books, videos, apps, and games, including eligible content they already have | Adds subscription-library books, games, videos, music, apps, Alexa Skills, and other listed children’s content |
The distinction matters: buying a tablet, creating a child profile, and subscribing to Kids+ are three separate things. Amazon says parents can create a free profile on supported devices. Kids+ is an optional paid content membership, not a requirement for parental controls or for using a child profile. See Amazon’s explanation of Amazon Kids and the Fire Tablet FAQ.

What can parents control?
Amazon’s Parent Dashboard lets parents manage a child’s profile and review recent activity. Available tools include weekday and weekend access settings, screen-time limits, educational goals, and age filters. The mobile dashboard also offers controls for device access, in-app calling, app-store access, in-app purchases, and web browsing. The exact settings available can depend on the device and software.
Subscription content is managed separately from content a parent has bought and shared with a child. Amazon says some items cannot be added through child-profile content controls, including personal documents, music, Prime Video rentals, and videos included with Prime. Some apps may also contain ads, external links, in-app purchases, or requests for personal information; others may need a separate subscription or Kids profile. Review an app’s details and settings rather than assuming that everything a child can access through a profile is ad-free or included in Kids+. Amazon Parent Dashboard information and Amazon’s child-profile content guidance describe these controls and limitations.

In an announcement dated October 9, 2026, Amazon said every Amazon Kids Tablet comes with a full year of Kids+. That statement describes the bundle Amazon announced; it does not establish identical terms for every marketplace, compatible tablet, or future promotion. Check the current listing for the specific tablet and country, including how long the membership lasts and what happens when it ends. Amazon’s announcement is at About Amazon’s Kids Tablet announcement.
A Kids+ bundle is a subscription offer associated with eligible tablet listings, not a reason to treat the entire tablet purchase as a subscription. For a tablet purchase, compare the listed hardware and included membership period with the standalone Kids+ option available to you. The available sources do not establish current standalone US monthly or annual pricing, differences between Prime or multi-child plans, renewal charges, or cancellation terms, so confirm those details on the current offer before deciding based on cost.
Is Amazon Kids+ worth it?
There is no universal value judgment: the library’s usefulness depends on what your child actually wants to use, which content works in your marketplace, and the current price. Amazon’s description of “thousands” of items is qualitative; it is not a dated, auditable count of titles. Use the following checks to decide:
Quick Recap
- It may be a better fit if your child regularly uses several included content types and you want a managed library alongside dashboard tools for screen time, access, and age settings.
- It may be unnecessary if you mainly want a free child profile and controls, your child uses only a few purchased titles, or the preferred apps and services require separate subscriptions.
- Check the actual content if you are subscribing for a particular show, book, game, or app. Brand examples do not promise that every title is available for your device and country.
- Check the offer economics if you are buying a tablet or weighing a standalone membership. Compare the current bundle period, recurring price, plan terms, and cancellation rules shown for your marketplace.
