Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to receive DLSS 5 Neural Rendering on November 5, 2026. For local PC play, NVIDIA currently lists GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards as the supported GPU family, but it has not announced the minimum RTX 50 model, required VRAM, driver version, or game settings. GeForce NOW and RTX Spark are also listed as access routes.

DLSS 5 is not simply a new upscaling mode. NVIDIA describes Neural Rendering as a final graphics-pipeline stage that starts with the game engine’s rendered frame and adds AI-generated lighting and material detail. The ordinary Hogwarts Legacy system requirements remain a separate baseline and cannot tell you whether a particular card will run this new feature.

When Hogwarts Legacy gets DLSS 5

NVIDIA announced on October 13, 2026, that an update adding DLSS 5 Neural Rendering to Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled for November 5, 2026. As of October 17, the update has not launched, so final compatibility and performance information is not yet available.

The same announcement says Avalanche Software used the DLSS 5 SDK controls to tune the effect for the game’s artistic style. NVIDIA also says the update will upgrade the game’s other DLSS technologies to their newest versions. That wording matters: the new Neural Rendering stage is being added alongside updates to existing features, not replacing every DLSS option with one setting.

What DLSS 5 Neural Rendering changes

It works after the game has rendered the scene

NVIDIA describes earlier DLSS technologies as solving different problems: super-resolution reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render, frame generation creates additional frames, and Ray Reconstruction rebuilds ray-traced lighting data. Neural Rendering is described differently. It uses the engine-rendered frame as the foundation and operates as the final stage of the graphics pipeline.

The source frame already contains the geometry, textures and lighting buffers authored for the game. NVIDIA’s Andrew Burnes calls that output “the game engine’s rendered frame, complete with its artist-designed geometry, textures, and lighting buffers, as an unyielding foundation.” The AI stage then adds lighting and material detail while remaining constrained by the scene the game produced.

The model uses color and motion information

NVIDIA’s March 2026 technical description says DLSS 5 takes frame color and motion vectors as inputs. An AI model uses those inputs, together with information anchored to the game’s source 3D content, to generate additional lighting and material detail. This is why the feature should not be understood as a generic post-processing filter applied to a screenshot: it is tied to temporal frame data and the scene information supplied by the game.

Developers can control the look

NVIDIA says the model exposes controls for intensity, color grading and masking. Those controls let a developer decide where the effect is visible, how strongly it changes lighting or materials, and how its colors fit the game’s established presentation. For Hogwarts Legacy, NVIDIA says Avalanche used those SDK controls to preserve the game’s artistic intent and style.

No independent image-quality comparison for the finished Hogwarts Legacy update was available in the announcement material. The visual description above is NVIDIA’s technical explanation, not a claim that every scene will look better under every setting.

Which GPU can run DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy?

Local PC support: GeForce RTX 50 Series

NVIDIA’s October 13 announcement lists GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs for local PC support. It does not identify a minimum model within that family. It also does not state a minimum VRAM capacity, required graphics-driver version, operating-system build beyond the game’s normal requirements, or a list of graphics settings that must be enabled.

Therefore, “RTX 50 Series supported” is the most specific confirmed local requirement. It is not evidence that every RTX 50 card will deliver the same frame rate, image quality or power efficiency. Until NVIDIA or the game’s update documentation publishes a card-level floor and tested settings, choosing a particular model as the guaranteed minimum would be speculation.

Cloud access: GeForce NOW

GeForce NOW is one of the other support paths named by NVIDIA. In this route, the game runs on a compatible cloud machine and streams to your device. The announcement does not specify which GeForce NOW membership tier, data-center region, account condition or stream setting will be required for DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy. Check the service’s current support listing after the update is released rather than assuming that every cloud session exposes the feature.

RTX Spark

NVIDIA also lists RTX Spark as a supported path. The announcement does not provide a detailed hardware specification, model hierarchy or performance target for RTX Spark in Hogwarts Legacy. Treat it as a separate supported platform, not as proof that an unspecified older desktop GPU will gain access to Neural Rendering.

Do the normal Hogwarts Legacy requirements prove DLSS 5 compatibility?

No. The game’s published PC specifications describe conventional rendering targets. They are useful for determining whether the game itself can start and what baseline performance target the publisher associates with each class of hardware, but they do not establish DLSS 5 support.

Ultra 4K NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT 32 GB RAM 2160p at 60 frames per second

All of those configurations list Windows 10 64-bit and DirectX 12. The GTX 960, RX 470, RTX 2080 Ti and other cards in this table are not announced as DLSS 5-compatible devices. A card can meet the game’s ordinary resolution-and-frame-rate target while lacking the hardware or software support NVIDIA has specified for Neural Rendering.

How the existing DLSS features relate to the November update

NVIDIA says Hogwarts Legacy already supports DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction on GeForce RTX PCs and laptops. The November update adds Neural Rendering and updates the other DLSS technologies to newer versions.

  • Multi Frame Generation: creates additional displayed frames from rendered frames and motion information. It is not the same operation as adding AI-generated lighting and materials to the final image.
  • Ray Reconstruction: reconstructs ray-traced lighting information. It addresses a different part of the rendering process from Neural Rendering.
  • Neural Rendering: is described as the final stage that uses the engine’s rendered frame as its constraint and adds lighting and material detail.

These features may be available as separate options or work together, but NVIDIA’s announcement does not provide the final in-game menu layout. Do not infer that enabling Multi Frame Generation automatically enables Neural Rendering, or that a computer capable of the older options necessarily meets the new feature’s requirements.

What NVIDIA’s performance figures actually mean

NVIDIA published several model-level comparisons in its October 2026 update. They describe the revised DLSS 5 model rather than an independent benchmark of Hogwarts Legacy on retail graphics cards.

Published figure What NVIDIA says it measures How to interpret it
2× faster The September 2026 DLSS 5 version versus the updated model A vendor-reported model comparison, not a game benchmark
About 118 million parameters A model footprint approximately 24% smaller than the September version Model size reduction; it does not specify a particular card’s frame rate
20% lower 4K VRAM use Memory use reported for the updated model A vendor figure; test conditions and game settings are not given here
Half the GPU overhead Compared with the September version at comparable visual fidelity Another model-level comparison, not an end-to-end Hogwarts Legacy result

Those numbers can indicate that NVIDIA is reducing the cost of the model, but they do not answer the practical questions of minimum frame rate, frametime consistency, image quality or VRAM headroom in a particular Hogwarts Legacy location. Independent testing after the November release will be needed for those answers.

How to check whether your setup is ready

  1. Identify your rendering path. Decide whether you intend to run the game locally on a GeForce RTX 50 Series card, use GeForce NOW, or use RTX Spark. A GTX, Radeon or Intel card that only meets the ordinary game specification is not confirmed for local DLSS 5.
  2. Record your exact GPU model and VRAM. The current announcement names a product family, not a minimum card. Keep the full model name available so you can compare it with the post-update support list when NVIDIA publishes one.
  3. Keep the game and graphics driver current. The update is scheduled for November 5, 2026. Install the game patch and the driver version specified in the release notes, if NVIDIA or the game publisher provides one. No required driver number has been announced yet.
  4. Confirm the game’s baseline requirements. Your system still needs Windows 10 64-bit, DirectX 12, sufficient RAM and storage, and a GPU capable of running the game normally. DLSS 5 does not remove those requirements.
  5. Check the graphics options after updating. Look for the new Neural Rendering control separately from upscaling, Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction. Record which options are enabled before judging performance so you know what changed.
  6. Test a repeatable scene. Compare the same location, resolution and quality settings with Neural Rendering disabled and enabled. Watch frame rate, frametime behavior, VRAM use and visual artifacts rather than relying on a single average number.

What is still unknown before launch

The announcement leaves several practical details open:

  • The minimum RTX 50 Series model for local use is not stated.
  • A minimum VRAM amount is not stated.
  • The required NVIDIA driver version is not stated.
  • Final resolution, quality-setting and ray-tracing recommendations are not stated.
  • GeForce NOW plan, region and account requirements are not stated.
  • RTX Spark’s specific hardware and performance characteristics for this game are not stated.
  • No independent Hogwarts Legacy benchmark or image-quality test is included.

Do not use the game’s GTX 960 minimum, RTX 2080 Ti Ultra target or RTX 3090 Ti 4K target as substitutes for those missing DLSS 5 details. They were published for the ordinary game configurations, not for Neural Rendering compatibility.

Choosing an access route

Route What is confirmed What you still need to verify
Local PC with GeForce RTX 50 Series NVIDIA lists the RTX 50 Series for local DLSS 5 support Exact card floor, VRAM, driver, settings and measured performance
GeForce NOW NVIDIA lists the service as a supported path Membership tier, region, account conditions, stream settings and rollout timing
RTX Spark NVIDIA lists RTX Spark as a supported path Specific hardware configuration, software requirements and performance
Older or non-RTX PC GPU May run Hogwarts Legacy under the ordinary published requirements No DLSS 5 compatibility is announced for these configurations

Bottom line for players planning an upgrade

If your goal is specifically DLSS 5 Neural Rendering in the local PC version, the only confirmed GPU guidance is NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series listing. That is enough to identify the supported family, but not enough to name a guaranteed minimum card or promise a particular frame rate. GeForce NOW and RTX Spark provide alternative routes named by NVIDIA, with their detailed conditions still to be published.

The feature itself is intended to add AI-generated lighting and material detail after the game engine has rendered the scene. It should be evaluated separately from upscaling, frame generation and Ray Reconstruction, and separately from the ordinary Hogwarts Legacy system requirements. Wait for the November 5 update documentation and independent tests before treating any specific model, setting or performance claim as definitive.
