The right desktop for two monitors depends on your operating system, workload, and the exact resolution and refresh rate you want on each screen. For a compact Mac, Apple’s Mac mini M6 has documented two-display configurations; for Windows, the ASUS ExpertCenter PN65 is a flexible mini-PC example, while the Lenovo ThinkCentre M70t Gen 6 is a tower option. Confirm the outputs and simultaneous display limits on the exact configuration before buying.
Which desktop should you choose for two monitors?
These are options supported by manufacturer display specifications or current business-desktop coverage—not a ranking from controlled dual-monitor performance tests. Choose by operating system and workload, then verify that the exact computer configuration can drive both of your intended screens at once.
| Desktop | Best fit | What the available evidence says | Important check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Mac mini M6 | Compact macOS setup | Apple documents two-screen configurations, including one display up to 8K at 60Hz, 5K at 120Hz, or 4K at 240Hz paired with a second display up to 5K at 60Hz over Thunderbolt or 4K at 60Hz over HDMI. Apple’s technical specifications | Match your planned resolution and refresh rate to a supported simultaneous combination, not just the maximum for one display. |
| ASUS ExpertCenter PN65 | Compact Windows setup with multiple display possibilities | ASUS states support for up to four 4K displays at 60Hz. 4K-or-higher video playback or streaming requires dual-channel memory; configurable ports vary by SKU. ASUS product specifications | Confirm the SKU’s actual ports and the compatibility of your monitors’ resolution and refresh rate. |
| Lenovo ThinkCentre M70t Gen 6 | Windows tower form factor | Lenovo’s model-family listing describes triple-display capability with two DisplayPort outputs and one HDMI output. Lenovo product listing | Verify those outputs are present on the exact configured SKU; the listing says the monitor is sold separately. |
| Dell Tower Plus (EBT2250) | Business desktop comparison option | TechRadar’s business-computer guide, updated 1 June 2026, names it as its overall business pick and lists configurations up to Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080, 64GB DDR5, and 4TB SSD. TechRadar’s guide | Those are listed configuration ceilings, not proof of dual-monitor testing. Check display outputs and the specific configuration. |
| GMKtec NucBox M5 Plus | Budget business tasks and light photo editing | TechRadar lists an AMD Ryzen 7 5825U, integrated graphics, up to 32GB DDR4 and up to 1TB SSD; it cautions that the system is not suited to graphics-intensive video editing or gaming. TechRadar’s guide | Check the current configuration’s video outputs and simultaneous display support before choosing monitors. |
What specifications matter for two monitors?
Simultaneous display support
Count the number of independent screens the computer supports at the same time. A desktop may have several visible ports without supporting every port combination simultaneously. Look for the manufacturer’s supported display count and connection combinations.
Resolution and refresh rate for each screen
Write down the intended resolution and refresh rate for both monitors, then check the supported pair. A maximum such as 8K or 4K at a high refresh rate may apply to one screen only. Apple’s listed M6 configurations show why the paired display limits matter: the primary display’s maximum is specified alongside a different ceiling for the second display.

Ports, cables, and adapters
Match the computer’s HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C video outputs to the monitors’ inputs. If you need an adapter or dock, confirm it supports the desired video mode and that the computer supports the resulting setup. A basic splitter should not be assumed to create two independent desktops; many simply duplicate one image.
Exact SKU and memory configuration
Desktop families can have different ports depending on the configuration. ASUS notes that the PN65 has configurable ports and that dual-channel memory is required for 4K-or-higher video playback or streaming. Lenovo’s M70t listing describes a model-family capability, so check the selected SKU rather than assuming every unit has the same outputs.

Can these desktops support two 4K monitors?
The ASUS PN65 manufacturer specification says it can support up to four 4K displays at 60Hz, subject to the stated memory and compatibility qualifications. Apple documents specific two-screen combinations for the Mac mini M6; the cited configurations include a second screen up to 4K at 60Hz over HDMI or 5K at 60Hz over Thunderbolt, paired with one of the stated primary-display modes. For the Lenovo tower and the TechRadar-listed systems, the sources cited here do not establish a specific two-4K configuration. Verify the exact outputs and simultaneous limits for the SKU you are considering.

Do you need a docking station for two monitors?
Not necessarily. If the desktop has two suitable video outputs, supports both displays at your required settings, and those outputs match the monitor inputs, a dock may not be needed. A dock can help when the computer lacks the required ports or when you want a single-cable connection, but confirm that the desktop, dock, cables, and screens support the complete display configuration. The named product specifications do not establish a general requirement to use a dock.

How to check a desktop before buying
- Confirm your operating system and apps. Make sure your essential software and peripherals work with macOS or Windows, as appropriate.
- Match the computer to your workload. Office work and browsing generally call for less graphics capacity than demanding games, 3D applications, or intensive video editing. The NucBox M5 Plus, for example, is described as a business and light-photo-editing option rather than a graphics-intensive system.
- Check the display count and active port combination. Use the manufacturer’s specification for the exact model and configuration, not the number of sockets alone.
- Confirm both monitors’ resolution and refresh rate. Check that the pair is supported together, including any limits that depend on which ports you use.
- Match video connections. Compare the desktop’s outputs with the monitors’ inputs and confirm any adapter, cable, or dock supports the intended mode.
- Review the exact SKU and what is included. Check memory, optional ports, and whether monitors and cables are included. Lenovo’s listing notes that the monitor is sold separately.
- Choose a form factor that fits your desk and upgrade plans. A mini PC saves desk space; a tower can be a better fit if you prioritize expansion or higher-demand workloads. Form factor alone does not guarantee performance.
What dual monitors will—and will not—tell you about productivity
Two screens can give you more room to keep documents, communication, or reference material visible, but the sources cited here do not establish a reliable, broadly applicable percentage improvement in productivity. Consider how your own tasks use screen space rather than relying on a universal gain figure.
