CogniPrep’s “delete all my data” settings action does not immediately remove every account-related record: it leaves assessment-centre exercise attempts in place until the account is deleted. The company’s privacy policy says those attempts, including written answers and AI feedback, are retained to enforce per-exercise usage limits. The distinction matters: a button’s label is not a substitute for a clear account of what it deletes now and what it retains.
What the settings action deletes—and what it keeps
In a case study published by Daniel Pertu, the CogniPrep action is described as deleting game sessions, interviews, onboarding profiles, and the record that a review prompt was shown. It leaves assessment-centre exercise attempts behind. These are the author’s reported implementation details, not an independently audited account of production behavior.
CogniPrep’s Privacy Policy, version 1.7.0, displayed as last updated 12 September 2026, identifies assessment-centre exercise attempts—including written answers and AI feedback—as retained until account deletion. The policy says the data is removed immediately when the account is deleted. It directs users to account settings to export or delete data.
Why exercise attempts are retained
The stated reason is per-exercise usage metering: each attempt counts toward limits on AI scoring reviews. Pertu’s case study and the policy describe this as the purpose of retaining the records; neither establishes that deletion is technically impossible. The policy’s wording, reproduced in the case study, is: “Assessment centre exercise attempts (including your written answers and any AI feedback): retained until you delete your account, so we can enforce per-exercise usage limits; removed immediately when you delete your account”.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
This is a retention exception, not an immediate, all-category deletion. A reader deciding whether to use the settings action should distinguish it from account deletion and read the applicable policy for the removal point.
What the dialog contributes
Pertu says the confirmation dialog enumerates the categories the settings action will delete. That makes its immediate scope visible before confirmation, while the policy explains the retained category and when it is removed. The two disclosures answer different questions: what this action deletes now, and what remains afterward.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
The case study also says the action removes the record that a review prompt was shown. That can allow the prompt to appear again. Pertu’s design argument is that a deletion endpoint should not keep a user’s record merely to suppress a future prompt; prompt suppression belongs in the decision about whether to show the prompt.

- Identify what is deleted: Look for named data categories in the confirmation dialog, not just a broad promise to delete everything.
- Find every exception: Check whether the privacy policy names records that remain, explains why, and states how long they are kept.
- Check the final removal point: Confirm whether account closure removes retained records and whether the timing is specified.
- Compare the disclosures: The dialog should accurately describe the action being confirmed; the policy should explain any later retention.
- Question operational convenience: Ask whether a record kept to influence a future product prompt belongs in the deletion endpoint at all.
What the transaction detail does—and does not—show
Pertu describes the deletion action as running four statements through Promise.all within a transaction. The article quotes the code comment: “This is pipelining, not parallelism: the transaction holds a single reserved connection and Postgres still runs the four statements in order, so what it buys is one network round trip instead of four, with no concurrency to reason about.” This is an explanation of that implementation as reported by its author, not a general rule for every transaction or use of Promise.all. It is also not a measured latency result.
The transaction description concerns the categories the settings action deletes. It does not establish that exercise attempts are removed by that action; the case study and policy say those remain until account deletion.

What is established—and what is not
The published case study describes the control’s behavior and rationale, and CogniPrep’s policy states the retention rule. Those sources establish what the author reports and what the policy promises. They do not independently verify production database state, deletion logs, backups, or downstream copies. Readers should treat the immediate and account-deletion timing as the service’s stated behavior, rather than an independent audit finding.
