There is no universal “local feedback compiler” storage location or deletion command. The exact application and version determine what is saved, where it goes, and whether anything is sent to a service. First identify the software; then separate local feedback and telemetry from logs, settings, indexes, and reports already submitted. Disable future collection and delete existing records as distinct steps, using the product’s documented controls.
What might be stored locally?
“Feedback data” can mean more than a message you typed. Depending on the application, local records may include telemetry counters, stack traces, event queues, diagnostic logs, screenshots or recordings, chat and run history, workspace indexes, settings, or a copy of a report. These are categories found in particular products, not a guaranteed inventory for every compiler.
For example, Go Telemetry says its toolchain programs store event counters, stack traces, and basic system details—including operating system, CPU architecture, and Go tool name and version—in a user configuration directory. Bandura documents separate databases for run history, chat history, and a workspace index, along with settings, an error log, and an optional feedback report created when the user selects Send Feedback. Those examples show why you should consult the documentation for your own application rather than assume a specific file or folder.
Go’s documented location is go/telemetry/local under the user configuration directory; it applies to Go Telemetry, not to an unidentified compiler. Bandura’s named database files and deletion behavior apply only to Bandura. Do not remove either product’s files as a method for clearing another application’s data.

Does “local” mean nothing leaves the device?
No. A record can be written locally first and still be uploaded later, sent with a user-submitted report, or shared with a configured provider. Storage location and transmission behavior are separate questions.
- Opt-in telemetry: Go Telemetry says collection is local by default and sharing begins only after telemetry is enabled. After opt-in, reports are uploaded weekly; a local copy of uploaded reports is kept separately in a
remotedirectory. See the Go Telemetry privacy policy, last updated January 24, 2024. - Runtime events and other outbound activity: LocalCloud documents failed runtime events being stored in PostgreSQL and retried, with a queue capped at seven days of hourly events in the reviewed implementation. Its documentation also distinguishes telemetry from other outbound behavior, such as update checks, certificate probes, online license validation in enforced builds, live IAM mode, and configured scheduler targets. These are LocalCloud-specific details, not general compiler behavior. See its Privacy and Outbound Data Reference, materially updated and evidence-reviewed August 13, 2026.
- User-submitted reports: Microsoft says diagnostic logs, screenshots, and recording data are sent when included with a Visual Studio Developer Community problem report. The submission flow lets users review attachments before sending. Feedback there may be publicly visible, and controls for submitted records are separate from local-file deletion. See Microsoft’s Developer Community data privacy documentation.
- Extensions and configured services: VS Code’s enterprise documentation treats telemetry settings separately from feedback mechanisms and warns that some third-party extensions may not follow the main setting. Review the documentation for each relevant extension. See VS Code’s telemetry guidance (approval date September 30, 2026).
These examples do not establish what an unidentified compiler transmits. Check its own privacy and telemetry documentation, including any provider, extension, cloud, or report-submission settings.

How to delete data without removing the wrong thing
- Identify the exact application. Record its name and version, your operating system, whether it is a desktop app, command-line tool, extension, or local/hosted deployment, and whether it syncs data or submits reports. If you cannot identify these details, do not rely on a guessed path or command.
- Inventory the records and their locations. Consult the current privacy, telemetry, and troubleshooting documentation. Separate feedback text, telemetry queues, logs, caches or indexes, settings, credentials, attachments, and records stored in an account or service. They may be held in different files or systems.
- Stop future collection or uploads using the documented control. Treat an opt-out as forward-looking unless the documentation says it also clears existing data. For instance, Go Telemetry documents separate
offandlocalcontrols as well as a localclearcommand; do not apply those commands to other software. LocalCloud saysLOCALCLOUD_TELEMETRY=falsesuppresses normal startup and heartbeat telemetry in the reviewed implementation, but an event key can still produce atelemetry_disabledevent. Check the exact product and version’s documented behavior. - View or export records before clearing, if supported. This helps you distinguish a local queue from a report already submitted to a service. Go Telemetry documents a
viewcommand; Microsoft documents viewing and exporting submitted feedback data. - Delete through the product’s documented method. Use its supported clear or delete control rather than removing a guessed database or application-data directory. A documented result for one product does not establish what deleting a similarly named file would do elsewhere.
- Check for separate copies. Review submitted feedback, account or service history, synced devices, and backups. Deleting a local file does not by itself establish that a submitted or synchronized copy has been removed. Microsoft documents distinct account-based controls for viewing, exporting, and deleting Developer Community feedback records.
- Verify the result. Reopen the product’s status or viewing interface, or inspect only locations its documentation identifies. Confirm that the targeted records are gone and that settings or other data you need remain.
What deletion does—and does not—prove
A local clear command or application-supported deletion can remove the records within its documented scope. It does not automatically prove that a service-side report, synced copy, or backup is gone. Nor do the reviewed product documents establish a universal secure-erasure procedure or a forensic-erasure guarantee. If you need a submitted report removed, follow the service’s own deletion process and verify that it covers the account or record in question.
