Mega Starmie is a Water- and Psychic-type Super Mega Raid boss, so its weaknesses are Bug, Dark, Electric, Ghost, and Grass. Pokémon GO Hub’s September 3, 2026 raid guide ranks Dawn Wings Necrozma with Shadow Claw and Moongeist Beam as its top counter. The guide’s rankings are recommendations, not a guarantee of how every team will perform.
What is Mega Starmie weak to?
Mega Starmie’s Water/Psychic typing leaves it vulnerable to Bug, Dark, Electric, Ghost, and Grass attacks. Pokémon GO Hub lists it as resistant to Fighting, Fire, Ice, Psychic, Steel, and Water attacks. Choose moves that hit one of its weaknesses rather than relying on a Pokémon’s type alone.
The raid guide lists Mega Starmie’s maximum CP as 4,184, with 276 Attack, 229 Defense, and 155 HP. These are boss stats, not the CP range of the Starmie you can catch after the raid. Pokémon GO Hub’s Mega Starmie Raid Guide also lists its fast moves as Water Gun, Psywave, Tackle, and Hidden Power, and its charged moves as Hydro Pump, Surf, Psychic, Psybeam, Power Gem, Ice Beam, and Thunder. Which move the boss uses can affect how safely a particular counter survives.
Which counters and moves should you use?
The following is Pokémon GO Hub’s published ranking and moveset list, not an independently reproduced simulation. The order reflects that guide; it does not mean every counter will perform equally well against every boss moveset or for every raid team.
#1 Best Overall
| Guide rank | Counter | Fast move | Charged move | Why it is listed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dawn Wings Necrozma | Shadow Claw | Moongeist Beam | Top listed choice; Ghost damage exploits a weakness. |
| 2 | Shadow Hydreigon | Bite | Brutal Swing | Dark damage exploits a weakness. |
| 3 | Kartana | Fury Cutter | Leaf Blade | Bug fast move and Grass charged move both exploit weaknesses. |
| 4 | Shadow Darkrai | Snarl | Shadow Ball | Dark and Ghost damage exploit weaknesses. |
| 5 | Zeraora | Volt Switch | Plasma Fists | Electric damage exploits a weakness. |
The guide also lists Shadow Raikou, Shadow Tyranitar, Zekrom, Shadow Sceptile, and Xurkitree among its other options. If you do not have the top-ranked Pokémon, pick the strongest available attacker with moves that exploit a listed weakness, then consider how it may fare against the boss’s actual attacks.
How do Super Mega Raid shields work?
In Pokémon GO Hub’s description of the Super Mega Raid mechanics, the boss can become enraged and activate shields that sharply reduce incoming damage. When a shield activates, a Mega Pokémon from a Trainer’s raid team is sent in automatically; its next attack is significantly stronger to help break the shield. After enough shields are broken, the boss returns to its normal state. The guide says each Trainer can break one shield and that Primal Pokémon cannot break shields.
Prepare a Mega Pokémon for your team
The guide says each Trainer needs a Mega Pokémon on their team and recommends using the strongest Mega available for shield-breaking. Its examples are Mega Sceptile, Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Tyranitar, Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Chesnaught, and Mega Heracross. It also states that these raids require at least seven Trainers; that group-size threshold is from the guide, not the official event announcement.

The post-raid encounter is an ordinary Starmie, not Mega Starmie. Pokémon GO Hub gives these catch CP ranges:
| Weather condition | Starmie catch CP |
|---|---|
| No weather boost | 1,404–1,476 |
| Rainy or Windy weather boost | 1,756–1,846 |
These ranges describe the encounter after the raid and should not be confused with the boss’s maximum CP.

Mega Starmie debuted in Super Mega Raids during Ultra Unlock: Starmie Super Mega Raid Day on August 22, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, according to the official Pokémon GO announcement. That event has passed, so its event-specific bonuses and ticket should not be treated as currently available. The announcement listed extra raid XP, an increased chance of Rare Candy XL, up to six free Raid Passes from Gym Photo Discs, an increased chance of Shiny Starmie, and Mega Level 1 unlocked for Starmie caught from those raids. A US$4.99 optional ticket offered separate, time-limited bonuses, including up to 14 Raid Passes and guaranteed Rare Candy XL for successfully catching Starmie.
The event announcement also noted: “Super Mega Raids will take great teamwork and may only appear at certain Gyms, so we’re making it easier to find nearby Gyms, Power Spots, and more using a new web-based map.” Check the game for current raid availability rather than assuming Mega Starmie is active now.
