Humblewood: Beyond the Canopy introduces six new playable animal-inspired races: Arma Hedges, Caprans, Elurans, Mustels, Rockburrow Jerbeen, and Seetas. Hit Point Press also advertises two new subraces, which are a separate category rather than two additional races. The campaign descriptions identify each race’s animal inspiration and a few flavor cues, but the retrieved official pages do not publish the complete traits or rules needed for a mechanical comparison.
The six new playable races at a glance
The official Beyond the Canopy campaign page uses the word “races” for its six newly introduced player options. Readers may call them species, especially when discussing newer D&D terminology, but the count is the same: six races, plus two subraces announced separately.
| Race | Animal inspiration | Publisher’s description | What is established publicly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arma Hedges | Pangolin | Armored plates | A playable race with a pangolin-like concept; complete traits are not provided on the retrieved campaign page. |
| Caprans | Goat | Goat-like people | A playable race with a goat-inspired identity; detailed mechanics are not stated on the retrieved page. |
| Elurans | Cat | Associated with magic and grace | A playable race whose public description emphasizes feline character, magic, and grace; full rules are not listed. |
| Mustels | Badger and weasel | Keen noses and nimble footwork | A playable race described through scent and agility imagery; the available description does not establish numerical abilities. |
| Rockburrow Jerbeen | Chinchilla | Helpful to friends | A playable race with a chinchilla-like appearance and a cooperative flavor; its complete traits are not published in the retrieved material. |
| Seetas | Parrot | A talent for mimicry | A playable race with parrot-inspired mimicry as a defining story cue; exact rules depend on the book. |
The animal comparisons are useful for understanding the intended visual and narrative identity. They are not substitutes for the species entries. For example, “armored plates” does not by itself prove a particular armor class, resistance, reaction, or other game benefit, and “mimicry” does not establish the scope or limits of a Seeta’s ability.
Arma Hedges: the pangolin-inspired option
Arma Hedges are presented as pangolin-like characters. Their most prominent public feature is a covering of armored plates, which gives the race an immediately recognizable silhouette and suggests a defensive visual theme.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That description is intentionally short. The official campaign copy does not say whether the plates affect Armor Class, provide a defensive action, interact with movement, or have any other mechanical effect. A player building an Arma Hedge should therefore wait for the species entry in the sourcebook instead of selecting equipment or a class on the assumption that “armored” means a specific rules benefit.
Caprans: the goat-like race
Caprans are the goat-inspired addition. The campaign page identifies them through their goat-like appearance but does not attach a published list of horns, climbing rules, movement values, ability adjustments, or other traits.
That leaves room for many character concepts without establishing a single required personality. A Capran could be written as a sure-footed wanderer, a village artisan, a religious pilgrim, or something entirely different; those are roleplaying choices, not facts supplied by the publisher. Use the eventual rules text to determine what the race can do mechanically.

Elurans are cat-like and are associated by the publisher with magic and grace. Those words communicate the intended tone more than a fixed class recommendation. They can support an elegant courtier, an arcane student, a stealthy scout, or a character whose magic is subtle and ceremonial.
The retrieved official description does not identify spellcasting, innate spells, proficiency bonuses, movement features, or any other mechanical package. Do not treat the association with magic as proof that Elurans must be spellcasters. The species’ actual entry is the authority for prerequisites, limitations, and benefits.

Mustels: keen noses and nimble footwork
Mustels draw on badgers and weasels. Hit Point Press highlights keen noses and nimble footwork, giving the race two clear flavor hooks: heightened attention to scent and a lively, agile physical style.
Neither phrase specifies a game statistic. The public copy does not establish a formal sense, a bonus to Perception or Survival, a special movement mode, or an action that allows a Mustel to evade danger. Those details should be checked directly in the book before a player plans a build around them.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsRockburrow Jerbeen: a chinchilla-like helper
Rockburrow Jerbeen are described as chinchilla-like and helpful to friends. The name connects them to Humblewood’s burrowing, woodland setting while the description emphasizes cooperation rather than a particular combat role.
“Helpful to friends” is a roleplaying cue, not a published promise of a Help-action enhancement, healing feature, teamwork reaction, or support bonus. A player can use it to shape a generous personality or a community-centered backstory, but should not assign a mechanical benefit until the species rules are available.
Seetas: parrot-inspired mimicry
Seetas are parrot-like and are noted for a talent for mimicry. That makes sound, imitation, and social misdirection natural story elements for the race.

The campaign description does not define what a Seeta can imitate, how accurately it can do so, whether the ability requires an action, or how another character contests it. It also does not say whether mimicry is an always-available feature or a limited resource. Those questions require the full species entry, so a table should agree on the printed wording rather than extrapolate from the animal analogy.
Why the count is six races, not eight
Hit Point Press separately advertises two new subraces. The campaign material retrieved for this title does not name those subraces or provide their traits.
A subrace is an additional category within the publisher’s product description; it is not counted as another one of the six headline races. The clearest summary is therefore:
- Six new playable races: Arma Hedges, Caprans, Elurans, Mustels, Rockburrow Jerbeen, and Seetas.
- Two additional subraces: announced by the publisher, but unnamed and mechanically unspecified on the retrieved campaign page.
Until the book is consulted, it is not possible to say which race a subrace belongs to, whether the subraces modify one of the six entries, or how they change a character. Treating the announcement as eight complete races would overstate what the publisher has actually identified.
What Beyond the Canopy adds around these species
The races are part of a larger campaign-setting expansion rather than a standalone species booklet. Hit Point Press describes the product as more than 250 pages and says it includes setting material, playable races, a bestiary, and an adventure.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The product page also describes 40-plus monsters and non-player characters. The campaign page frames the player options as one part of a wider release that includes one class with three subclasses, three additional subclasses, and an adventure intended for characters from level 5 through level 8. The product page independently identifies the adventure as level 5–8.
These surrounding features matter when deciding whether the book fits a campaign. A group looking only for six species entries may use a smaller portion of the volume, while a Humblewood campaign can draw on the setting, adversaries, class content, and mid-level adventure in the same purchase.
2014 and 2024 rules support
The product page identifies the PDF as compatible with D&D 5e 2014. The official campaign page also advertises support for both the 2014 and 2024 rules and says that player content has a conversion PDF for the 2024 rules.
That wording does not mean every table can combine the two rules versions without decisions. A group should decide which core rules it is using, then apply the relevant presentation of the player content. If the campaign uses the 2024 rules, obtain and read the conversion document alongside the species entries; if it uses the 2014 rules, use the 2014-compatible text identified by the product page.

- Which rules version is the campaign using: 2014, 2024, or a deliberate mixture?
- Will the Dungeon Master use the book’s conversion PDF for player content?
- Are the two unnamed subraces available at the table, or only the six named races?
- Will the group follow the printed species traits exactly, including any limits on mimicry, senses, movement, or defensive features?
How to choose one before comparing mechanics
The available public descriptions support a flavor-first choice, not a statistical ranking. Use the following process while waiting to consult the complete entries.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Start with the character fantasy. Choose armored pangolin imagery for an Arma Hedge, goat-like identity for a Capran, feline magic and grace for an Eluran, scent and footwork for a Mustel, chinchilla-like helpfulness for a Rockburrow Jerbeen, or parrot-inspired mimicry for a Seeta.
- Write the concept without assigning bonuses. Decide the character’s background, relationships, values, and visual details. Do not assume that the animal analogy dictates class, alignment, size, speed, or ability scores.
- Read the complete entry in the book. Record every listed trait, limitation, proficiency, sense, movement option, and resource. If a conversion PDF applies, read the corresponding 2024 version as well.
- Check the campaign’s power expectations. Ask the Dungeon Master how species features interact with house rules, feats, multiclassing, and the adventure’s level range.
- Only then compare mechanics. The retrieved campaign copy does not provide enough information to declare one of these races better for defense, spellcasting, stealth, support, or exploration.
Common mistakes to avoid
Counting subraces as extra races
The announcement is six races plus two subraces. Calling it eight new races loses the distinction the publisher makes.
Turning flavor into rules
Armored plates, keen noses, nimble footwork, helpfulness, magic, grace, and mimicry are descriptions. None of the retrieved pages supplies the numerical or procedural text needed to turn those phrases into a character sheet.
Assuming an animal analogue determines personality
A pangolin-like, goat-like, feline, mustelid, chinchilla-like, or parrot-like appearance does not require a particular alignment, profession, class, or temperament. Those choices belong to the player and campaign.
Mixing editions without checking conversion text
The publisher presents 2014 compatibility and 2024 support with a player-content conversion PDF. Select the rules version first and use the matching material rather than combining entries casually.
What is confirmed—and what still requires the book
Confirmed by the official campaign and product descriptions are the six names, their broad animal inspirations, the separate announcement of two unnamed subraces, the book’s 250-plus-page scale, its 40-plus monsters and NPCs, the level 5–8 adventure, and its stated 2014/2024 rules support.
The retrieved pages do not establish the two subrace names, species sizes, speeds, ability-score rules, proficiencies, senses, resistances, actions, resource limits, or balance differences. They also do not provide a basis for ranking one race against another. Those details belong to the complete Beyond the Canopy rules text and its conversion material.
