For regular Unovan Zoroark, the best-supported Great and Ultra League moveset is Shadow Claw with Foul Play and Sludge Bomb. Shadow Claw reaches Foul Play faster than Sucker Punch, while Sludge Bomb supplies the recommended second charged move. This is a moveset recommendation, not a claim that Zoroark is a top-tier Pokémon: its very low bulk remains the central reason it struggles in PvP.

Sucker Punch is a legitimate alternative if you evolved Zorua during the October 2026 Community Day window, because it deals more fast-move damage. It generates energy more slowly, however, so Shadow Claw is the safer general choice for consistent Foul Play timing.

Recommended Zoroark moveset at a glance

Role Move Why use it
Fast move Shadow Claw Generates 4.0 energy per turn and reaches Foul Play in five actions.
Charged move 1 Foul Play Low 40-energy cost gives Zoroark its quickest reliable charged pressure.
Charged move 2 Sludge Bomb Recommended second move in the current Great and Ultra League database entries; adds Poison-type coverage.

The Pokémon GO Hub PvP database lists Shadow Claw, Foul Play and Sludge Bomb for both Great League and Ultra League. Use that set as the default when building a regular Zoroark. The database’s recommendation should not be confused with a high overall ranking: Zoroark is listed at 797th of 1,143 eligible Pokémon in Great League and 628th of 841 in Ultra League in the snapshot accessed October 13, 2026.

Why Shadow Claw is the default fast move

Zoroark’s two most relevant fast-move choices create a clear damage-versus-energy trade-off. The October 9, 2026 Pokémon GO Hub analysis reports the following figures:

Fast move Type Damage per turn Energy per turn Cooldown Practical effect
Shadow Claw Ghost 3.0 4.0 1 turn Better energy pace and earlier Foul Play.
Sucker Punch Dark 4.0 3.5 1 turn More fast-move damage, but slower charged-move access.
Snarl Dark 1.67 4.33 1.5 seconds Highest listed energy generation, but much lower fast-move damage.

Shadow Claw’s 4.0 energy per turn means five actions produce the 40 energy required for Foul Play. That predictable first-charge timing is valuable for a frail Pokémon: Zoroark usually wants to apply pressure before its low endurance is exposed.

Sucker Punch deals 4.0 damage per turn, one point more than Shadow Claw in the cited analysis, but produces only 3.5 energy per turn. Five actions therefore provide 35 energy, leaving Zoroark one more action short of Foul Play. The analysis describes that difference as a two-PvP-turn delay under its turn convention. In practical terms, it is one additional fast-move action before the 40-energy threshold is reached.

Snarl technically generates 4.33 energy per turn, but its 1.67 damage-per-turn value is substantially lower. The available recommendation does not select Snarl for the standard set. Its different pacing can be considered only when a specific team plan values energy generation over immediate pressure; the cited database still supports Shadow Claw as the general choice.

Foul Play is Zoroark’s primary charged move

Foul Play costs 40 energy and deals 65 damage according to the October 9 analysis. It is Zoroark’s cheapest listed charged move, so it is the move that makes Shadow Claw’s energy advantage matter. Reaching a low-cost Dark attack quickly lets Zoroark force a shield or chip an opponent before it is removed.

Charged move Type Damage Energy How to view it
Foul Play Dark 65 40 Default first charged move because of its low cost and reliable timing.
Night Shade Ghost 70 45 More damage than Foul Play, but with a higher energy requirement and no place in the standard database recommendation.
Sludge Bomb Poison 80 50 Recommended second move for Great and Ultra League; provides coverage beyond Dark and Ghost attacks.
Flamethrower Fire 90 55 Potential team- or matchup-dependent coverage, but not the database’s standard second move.

Foul Play’s 40-energy requirement is the key reason to pair it with Shadow Claw. Night Shade, Sludge Bomb and Flamethrower all ask for more energy, so replacing Foul Play removes the fastest way for Zoroark to make use of its attack window.

Choosing the second charged move

Sludge Bomb: the standard recommendation

Sludge Bomb costs 50 energy and deals 80 damage in the cited analysis. The current database lists it beside Foul Play in both Great and Ultra League. It gives Zoroark a Poison-type option rather than relying entirely on Dark damage, which can make an opponent’s shield decision less straightforward.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Because Zoroark is fragile, the second move should be viewed as coverage for a particular team rather than proof that it can stay in against every target. Unlocking a second charged move does not solve the species’ bulk problem; it simply gives the Zoroark that reaches a charge move more than one way to spend it.

Flamethrower: a situational coverage choice

Flamethrower is listed at 90 damage for 55 energy. The October analysis says it can offer useful coverage, but it does not replace Sludge Bomb in the standard Great or Ultra League recommendation. Consider it only when your team specifically needs Fire coverage and accepts the slower charge requirement.

Night Shade: higher cost, different typing

Night Shade deals 70 damage for 45 energy. Its Ghost typing gives a different damage profile, but it costs five more energy than Foul Play while dealing less damage in the cited figures. That makes it a matchup-specific experiment rather than the default pairing.

Shadow Claw versus Sucker Punch

Sucker Punch should not be dismissed: its 4.0 damage per turn is higher than Shadow Claw’s 3.0, and some simulations in the October analysis show it winning matchups that Shadow Claw does not. Shadow Claw also has unique wins in the comparison. Those outcomes depend on the selected matchup and shield scenario, so they are not universal guarantees for every battle or team.

Question Shadow Claw Sucker Punch
Fast-move damage 3.0 damage per turn 4.0 damage per turn
Energy generation 4.0 energy per turn 3.5 energy per turn
Actions to reach Foul Play Five actions (40 energy) Six actions; five provide only 35 energy
Best use case General-purpose pressure and earlier charged moves Testing higher fast-move damage when the event move is available
Main drawback Lower immediate fast-move damage One extra fast-move action before Foul Play

For most teams, choose Shadow Claw because getting to Foul Play sooner is the more direct way to turn Zoroark’s limited time on the field into pressure. Choose Sucker Punch when you have tested a specific matchup or team line in which the extra fast-move damage outweighs the delayed charge. It is an alternative, not an automatic upgrade.

How the Community Day move affects your Zoroark

The Pokémon GO Hub October 8, 2026 event guide reports that evolving Zorua during October Community Day, or within four hours after the event, awarded Zoroark the exclusive fast move Sucker Punch. This was a time-limited event condition, not a permanent evolution rule. The guide’s window should not be treated as still open simply because the move exists in the move list; check an in-game event announcement before assuming a later evolution can obtain it.

If your Zoroark does not have Sucker Punch, Shadow Claw remains the general PvP recommendation in the current database. The available reporting does not establish an Elite TM route or a future return date, so do not spend resources on the assumption that either is guaranteed.

Great League: what the ranking means

In the database snapshot accessed October 13, 2026, Zoroark is ranked 797 of 1,143 eligible Pokémon for Great League. The listed build reaches level 21.5 and 1,496 CP with a suggested 1/15/15 IV spread.

The rank is a snapshot of the database’s eligible-Pokémon list, not a guarantee that Zoroark will lose every battle. It is best used as a warning about opportunity cost: many Great League choices provide more durability or more reliable matchup coverage. Zoroark’s Dark typing can help against some opponents, but its low bulk leaves little room for absorbed damage or a missed timing.

Ultra League: higher CP, same structural problem

For Ultra League, the same database snapshot places Zoroark at 628 of 841 eligible Pokémon. Its suggested build is level 42, 2,497 CP and a 1/15/15 IV spread, again using Shadow Claw, Foul Play and Sludge Bomb.

Ultra League item Snapshot value
Database rank 628 / 841 eligible Pokémon
Suggested level 42
Suggested CP 2,497
Suggested IV spread 1/15/15
Recommended moves Shadow Claw, Foul Play, Sludge Bomb

Ultra League’s higher CP limit does not remove the reason Zoroark is difficult to use. The Pokémon GO Hub analysis describes it as unusually fragile, and concludes that the species remains too flawed to perform as players might want. Treat the Ultra League entry as a way to build and test Zoroark if you enjoy it, not as evidence that it is a dependable core pick.

Master League information

The cited database snapshot provides no Master League ranking information for Zoroark. That absence is not a precise ranking and should not be read as a formal statement that Zoroark cannot be used there. It means the available source does not supply a comparable Master League placement, CP target or IV recommendation.

Without a published Master League entry in the cited material, the defensible advice is to avoid extrapolating the Great or Ultra League builds to Master League and to verify current battle simulations before investing resources.

Zoroark’s typing and why bulk matters

The database type chart lists regular Zoroark as weak to Bug, Fairy and Fighting. It resists Dark and Ghost and double-resists Psychic. Those resistances can create attractive entry points, especially when an opponent is locked into a resisted attack.

Typing does not make Zoroark durable. A resisted hit may still be costly because the species has unusually low bulk, and a weakness can end the matchup quickly. This is why the move choice cannot be evaluated in isolation: Shadow Claw’s quicker Foul Play may be more valuable than Sucker Punch’s higher fast-move damage simply because Zoroark often has a short window to act.

Practical build procedure

  1. Confirm the form. Select regular Unovan Zoroark, not Hisuian Zoroark, before applying this advice.
  2. Check the league. For Great League, aim for the database’s 1,496 CP, level 21.5 example; for Ultra League, use its 2,497 CP, level 42 example. These are snapshot targets, not universal requirements for every specimen.
  3. Set the fast move. Use Shadow Claw for the general build. Use Sucker Punch only when you intentionally want the higher fast-move damage and accept the slower Foul Play timing.
  4. Set the first charged move. Use Foul Play, the 40-energy move that Shadow Claw reaches in five actions.
  5. Set the second charged move. Use Sludge Bomb for the database-supported standard set. Consider Flamethrower only for a team-specific coverage plan, and treat Night Shade as an experiment rather than the default.
  6. Test before committing resources. Compare the exact shield scenario and matchup list relevant to your team. Simulated wins and losses are conditional, and neither fast move fixes Zoroark’s low bulk.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming more fast-move damage is always better. Sucker Punch’s 4.0 damage per turn comes with 3.5 energy per turn, so it reaches Foul Play one action later than Shadow Claw.
  • Calling Sucker Punch a permanent evolution move. The cited event guide tied it to the October 2026 Community Day evolution window and the following four hours.
  • Replacing Foul Play with a more expensive move by default. Night Shade, Sludge Bomb and Flamethrower all require more energy; Foul Play is the tool that lets Zoroark pressure quickly.
  • Reading a database rank as a battle guarantee. Rankings summarize a model and eligible field at a point in time. They do not predict every shield, lead or switch decision.
  • Ignoring form differences. Advice for regular Unovan Zoroark should not be transferred to Hisuian Zoroark without separate current data.
  • Assuming a second charged move solves survivability. Sludge Bomb expands options, but it does not change Zoroark’s underlying fragility.

How to decide between the two fast moves

Use Shadow Claw when:

  • You want the most straightforward Foul Play timing.
  • Your team depends on early shield pressure rather than fast-move damage alone.
  • You are building a Zoroark without the Community Day move.
  • You have not run a matchup-specific simulation showing a clear Sucker Punch benefit.

Test Sucker Punch when:

  • Your Zoroark already has the event-exclusive move.
  • You value 4.0 damage per turn and can tolerate the extra action before Foul Play.
  • A particular matchup and shield scenario favors its fast-move damage.
  • You are prepared to judge it as a team-dependent alternative, not a universal replacement.

Bottom line for each league

League Best-supported set What to expect
Great League Shadow Claw + Foul Play + Sludge Bomb Database rank 797/1,143; level 21.5 and 1,496 CP example. Usable for experimentation, but low bulk and a low ranking limit reliability.
Ultra League Shadow Claw + Foul Play + Sludge Bomb Database rank 628/841; level 42 and 2,497 CP example. The same fragility remains despite the higher CP cap.
Master League No cited ranking or build supplied Do not infer a rank or investment target from the Great or Ultra League entries.

If you want one answer, build regular Zoroark with Shadow Claw, Foul Play and Sludge Bomb. Keep Sucker Punch for deliberate testing when you have the event move, and choose it only when the extra fast-move damage is worth giving up Shadow Claw’s faster charge pacing.
