AnTuTu is a synthetic benchmark that combines CPU, GPU, memory (MEM), and user-experience (UX) tests into one score. That number is useful for comparing phones only when the results come from the same AnTuTu version and platform. It is not a guaranteed translation of how fast every app will open, how many frames every game will render, or how long a phone will last on a charge.

The most reliable reading uses the total together with the four component scores, the benchmark version, the date, the platform, and whether the figure is an average or a single peak result.

What an AnTuTu score is actually measuring

AnTuTu runs a collection of repeatable workloads and combines their results. Its Android download page, checked on October 13, 2026, lists AnTuTu Benchmark 12.0.2, updated October 10, 2026. The page describes four modules—CPU, GPU, MEM, and UX—and hundreds of individual tests intended to produce an overall mobile-device performance result.

The iOS/iPadOS page lists AnTuTu 11.0.2, updated May 26, 2026. AnTuTu says that implementation uses Apple’s Metal graphics technology. Because the Android and iOS implementations use different platform technologies, their totals should not be placed on one universal scale.

Module What it covers What AnTuTu says about the current test design How to use the result
CPU Processor-oriented workloads that contribute to the phone’s general compute result. Version 12 revised CPU testing to better reflect real-world user behavior. Useful for finding relative processing strength when the phones use the same benchmark generation and platform.
GPU Graphics and rendering workloads. AnTuTu says the V12 GPU pipeline was optimized. Helps identify graphics-oriented differences, but it is not a guaranteed frame-rate result for a particular game.
MEM Memory-related behavior, including the way data is handled during the benchmark. V12 adds a dynamic memory-latency stress test. Useful for spotting memory-system differences that may be hidden by a total score.
UX Tests intended to represent application-layer I/O and system-rendering behavior. AnTuTu says V12 upgraded the UX test suite and changed application-layer I/O and system-rendering behavior. Provides context for responsiveness-oriented comparisons, without establishing a universal “feels this fast” threshold.

The weighting and algorithms are part of AnTuTu’s benchmark design. A total is therefore a composite measurement, not a hardware specification such as clock speed, storage capacity, or battery size.

Why the AnTuTu version must appear beside every score

AnTuTu’s September 22, 2026 V12 public-beta announcement describes changes to all four areas: revised CPU behavior, an optimized GPU pipeline, a dynamic memory-latency stress test, and an upgraded UX suite. Since the workloads and algorithms changed, AnTuTu states: “Therefore, scores from different AnTuTu versions are not directly comparable.”

This is more than a labeling detail. A phone tested under V11 and a phone tested under V12 may receive totals that look as though they belong in one league table even though the benchmark is asking them different questions. A chart that mixes generations can create a false winner. Label every result with its exact version, such as V11 or V12, and do not calculate a percentage advantage across those generations.

How to compare two phones without misreading the number

  1. Match the benchmark generation. Compare V11 with V11 or V12 with V12. If a source does not state the version, treat the number as incomplete evidence.
  2. Match the platform. Android and iOS results use different implementations. Keep comparisons within one platform unless you explicitly describe them as separate benchmark scales.
  3. Record the total and all four components. The total can conceal whether a phone’s advantage comes mainly from CPU, GPU, MEM, or UX.
  4. Check whether the number is an average or a peak. An individual run can be unusually high; a published ranking figure may represent a device average instead.
  5. Write down the date and geographic scope. Ranking tables change, and a global list may cover a different market from a regional list.

Following those five checks turns a headline score into a properly qualified comparison. Without them, the digits have less meaning than their precision suggests.

What the total can tell you

Relative synthetic performance within a controlled comparison

When two phones use the same AnTuTu version and platform, the total can show which one produced the stronger result across the benchmark’s combined workloads. It is most useful for broad positioning: one device may be ahead overall, while another may be competitive in only one module.

Where a phone’s benchmark strengths lie

The component columns explain the shape of the total. A phone with a strong GPU result but a less impressive MEM result presents a different trade-off from one whose total is lifted by CPU and memory. Looking at that pattern helps you ask a more relevant follow-up question instead of treating one composite number as the entire device.

Whether a published figure is representative of a device’s submitted results

AnTuTu’s ranking guidance says its displayed ranking score is the average of all valid results for that device, not the highest score anyone submitted. That makes a ranking number different from a reviewer’s best run or a screenshot captured under unusually favorable conditions.

What an AnTuTu score cannot establish

There is no universal “fast enough” threshold

The official materials explain what the benchmark tests and how the versions differ, but they do not provide a score-to-experience conversion that works for every person. No cited AnTuTu document establishes that a particular total guarantees smooth use, a specific launch time, or a defined level of satisfaction.

It does not predict every app or game

An app can be limited by its own code, network activity, storage behavior, operating-system support, or background services. A game can respond differently to its graphics engine and settings. A benchmark result can inform a purchase, but it cannot substitute for measurements of the exact software you care about.

It is not a battery-life, camera, modem, or update-support rating

The four AnTuTu modules are performance workloads. They do not, by themselves, establish endurance on a charge, image quality, cellular reception, speaker quality, water resistance, software-support duration, or repairability. Those questions require separate evidence.

One run does not describe sustained behavior

A single completed run records the result of that run. It does not, on its own, establish how a phone will behave after extended gaming, repeated benchmark loops, a hot environment, or a low-battery state. If sustained performance matters, look for a separately documented test that measures it over time rather than inferring it from one total.

Platform and geography change the meaning of rankings

AnTuTu’s ranking page says its Android implementation uses Vulkan and its iOS implementation uses Metal. The company cautions that cross-platform scores may not be directly comparable. A higher Android total is therefore not proof that the Android phone is faster than an iPhone with a lower-looking number; the implementations are not measuring on an identical scale.

The cited global ranking guidance also says the global list excludes mainland China. A ranking described as “global” in that context is not a worldwide census of every market. If you quote a position, include the list’s version, update date, and market scope so readers know what population the ranking represents.

How to read an AnTuTu ranking page

AnTuTu says its popular-model list is updated monthly. The linked ranking data cited for this guide is labeled V11 and updated in August 2026. Treat that page as a time-stamped snapshot, not a permanent order of phones.

  • Verify that the ranking’s version matches the results you are comparing.
  • Use the listed average as the ranking statistic; do not replace it with the highest visible run.
  • Read the CPU, GPU, MEM, and UX columns beside the total.
  • Note whether the table is global or restricted to a market; the cited global table excludes mainland China.
  • Expect positions to change when new devices, software updates, valid submissions, or a new benchmark generation enter the dataset.

A documented iOS workload example

AnTuTu’s February 4, 2026 explanation of its iOS V11 test describes GPU scenarios moved to Unreal Engine 5. In the sequence discussed there, a high-intensity GPU test runs first, followed by CPU, memory, and other items. The article focuses on iOS Pro models and a specific V11 workload.

That example shows why test order and workload details matter: it is evidence about that iOS V11 implementation, not a description of the general Android V12 process. Use it to understand the scope of the claim, not to infer that every AnTuTu run starts with the same graphics scene.

A practical method for making your own comparison

  1. Identify the exact build. Before recording a result, note whether the app is Android V12.0.2, iOS/iPadOS V11.0.2, or another explicitly labeled release.
  2. Record the device and date. Save the model name, operating-system version, benchmark version, and test date with the screenshot or exported result.
  3. Capture the breakdown. Keep the total plus CPU, GPU, MEM, and UX values. A total without its components cannot show what drove the difference.
  4. Separate ordinary runs from ranking data. Mark whether you performed the run yourself, quoted a review, or used AnTuTu’s device average. Do not call a single best run an average.
  5. Keep the comparison conditions consistent. Test the phones with the same benchmark generation and platform, and record any condition that could make the result atypical. If you repeat a run, report the set of results rather than silently selecting the highest one.
  6. Interpret the result against your workload. Use GPU information for a graphics question, MEM and UX information for multitasking or interface questions, and separate evidence for battery life, cameras, connectivity, and support.

Worked example: why the components matter

Imagine Phone A has the higher total, while Phone B has the higher GPU score and a lower MEM score. The total alone would identify Phone A as the benchmark leader, but the component pattern tells you that Phone B may be the more relevant candidate for a graphics-focused comparison. You would still need game-specific testing to know which phone delivers the better experience in a particular title.

Conversely, a phone with a strong UX and MEM result but a weaker GPU result may be a sensible fit for a reader who values general navigation and multitasking more than demanding 3D games. AnTuTu does not make that purchasing decision; it supplies a structured set of signals for asking it.

Common mistakes and the correction for each

Mistake Why it misleads Correction
Mixing V11 and V12 in one league table The test suite and algorithms changed. Group results by version and label every chart.
Quoting the largest screenshot number A peak run is not the same statistic as a device average. Identify whether the source reports a single run or AnTuTu’s average of valid results.
Ranking Android and iOS totals together The implementations use Vulkan and Metal respectively. Compare within one platform or explain that the scales are separate.
Calling a global ranking universal The cited global list excludes mainland China and has a defined update date. State the market scope, version, and date.
Promising a specific real-world experience from a total The official material does not establish a universal score-to-experience formula. Use the score as one input and seek workload-specific evidence.
Ignoring the component columns A composite can hide the source of an advantage. Read CPU, GPU, MEM, and UX alongside the total.

What AnTuTu’s reach does—and does not—prove

AnTuTu’s homepage reports more than 200 million users and operation in more than 100 countries. The page does not state a year for those figures, and they are publisher-reported promotional claims rather than independently audited measurements in the cited material. They indicate broad adoption, not that the benchmark predicts every individual’s phone experience or that its rankings are free from all sampling limitations.

The decision rule to keep

Use AnTuTu to compare like with like: the same version, the same platform, a clearly dated and scoped dataset, and the total read together with CPU, GPU, MEM, and UX. Treat the result as evidence about a standardized benchmark workload. Do not use it as a universal promise about an app, a game, battery endurance, or the overall quality of a phone.
