An A+ EPS Revision Quant Grade usually means Seeking Alpha ranks a stock near the top of its sector for the direction and frequency of analysts’ earnings-per-share estimate changes. It is a strong, sector-relative signal about changing expectations—not a forecast of the company’s reported earnings, a valuation judgment, or a stand-alone buy recommendation.
Always identify the provider first. AAII also uses A+ grades, but its estimate-revisions component is a different product with different inputs and ranking rules.
Start with the two terms: EPS and revision
EPS is a per-share earnings measure
Earnings per share (EPS) is a company’s profit allocated to each outstanding share, subject to the accounting definition being used. Investors commonly see historical EPS in financial statements and forward EPS in analyst models. A forward estimate is what an analyst currently expects the company to earn per share in a future quarter or fiscal year.
A revision is a change in an estimate
An EPS revision occurs when an analyst raises or lowers a previously published forecast. The change can follow an earnings report, a new sales outlook, a cost update, an acquisition, a regulatory development, a commodity-price move, or information from management. A revision is therefore about an expectation changing; it is not the same as the company having already earned that amount.

Seeking Alpha’s official Help explanation describes the approach as favoring stocks with more frequent upward revisions than the sector average or than the stock’s historical levels. The letter grade compresses that information into a factor score, so the letter alone does not tell you the exact number of cents by which estimates moved, the time period involved, or how many analysts changed their models.
What an A+ means in Seeking Alpha’s system
It is the top end of a factor scale
Seeking Alpha’s Quant Ratings display factor grades from A+ through F. An A+ EPS Revision Quant Grade is the highest letter on that scale for the EPS-revisions factor. In plain language, the stock is ranked very favorably on the provider’s measure of estimate-revision behavior compared with the stocks it considers comparable.
It is sector-relative, not an absolute score
Seeking Alpha representatives describe the factor grades as relative comparisons among stocks in the same sector. That means an A+ does not mean that analysts raised estimates by a particular percentage, that the company will grow EPS at a particular rate, or that it has the highest earnings in the market. A stock can earn an A+ in a sector where estimates are generally being cut if its revisions are less negative or more consistently positive than its peers. Conversely, an A+ in one sector is not automatically equivalent to an A+ in another sector because the comparison group and industry conditions differ.

A stock can have an A+ revision grade and weak grades for value, profitability, momentum, or another factor. The factor letter should therefore be read as one dimension of the rating display, not as the stock’s complete rating.
What the grade does not tell you
It does not report what the company earned
Analysts’ estimates are forward-looking opinions. Even a broad set of upward revisions can be wrong because revenue, margins, taxes, currency rates, financing costs, or one-time items turn out differently. Wait for the company’s filing and earnings release to see reported results; do not treat the grade as a substitute for those documents.
It does not guarantee an earnings beat
An A+ describes the direction or relative standing of revisions in the provider’s model. It does not establish that the next quarterly EPS will exceed the consensus estimate. Analysts may revise estimates upward and the company may still miss them, or the estimates may be revised again before the reporting date.
It does not predict a share-price gain
Share prices respond to expectations, valuation, interest rates, risk appetite, news, and the gap between results and what investors had already priced in. A positive revision signal can be offset by an expensive valuation, weak guidance, a sector sell-off, dilution, litigation, or a macroeconomic shock. The grade is an input to analysis, not a promised return.

It does not reveal valuation
The letter does not tell you whether the stock is cheap or expensive. A company whose estimates are rising can still trade at a price that leaves little room for disappointment. Check valuation measures appropriate to the business, such as forward price-to-earnings, free-cash-flow yield, enterprise-value multiples, or other industry-specific measures, and understand how sensitive those measures are to the estimates being revised.
Why timing matters
A revision grade is time-sensitive because analyst models and peer rankings change. A Seeking Alpha webinar states that its Quant system is updated every trading day. That is the provider’s stated system cadence; it does not mean every stock’s individual letter changes every day. A grade shown on one date may differ after an earnings release, an analyst note, or a sector-wide change in expectations.
Record the date and provider whenever you save or discuss an A+ grade. If you are comparing two stocks, compare grades observed at roughly the same time and under the same product version. An undated screenshot can be misleading because the underlying estimates may have moved substantially.

AAII also publishes A+ Stock Grades, which can create confusion in search results and screeners. AAII describes its system as percentile rankings across value, growth, momentum, EPS estimate revisions, and quality. Its estimate-revisions component includes recent quarterly earnings-surprise measures and current-year estimate revisions over the last month and three months.

Those are AAII’s stated components, not a definition of Seeking Alpha’s EPS Revision Quant Grade. The two services may assign different letters to the same company because they use different universes, inputs, look-back periods, calculations, and update processes. Name the provider whenever you quote the grade.

How to investigate an A+ grade before making a decision
- Identify the provider and date. Confirm whether the letter came from Seeking Alpha, AAII, a broker, or another screener. Note when it was displayed because the information can change.
- Find the underlying estimate changes. If the platform shows them, inspect the direction, size, time window, and breadth of revisions. Ask whether one analyst made a large change or many analysts made smaller changes. The A+ letter by itself does not disclose those details.
- Separate current-year and next-quarter expectations. An upward revision to a distant fiscal-year estimate can coexist with a near-term cut. Check the specific period attached to each estimate.
- Read the company’s latest filings and earnings release. Look for revenue trends, gross and operating margins, cash flow, debt, share count, guidance, and one-time items that could explain why analysts changed models.
- Review all other factor grades. Examine value, growth, profitability, and momentum alongside revisions. A strong revision factor may be offset by weak profitability or an extreme valuation.
- Test the investment case independently. Consider the business model, competitive position, balance sheet, catalysts, downside risks, and the price you would pay. Decide what would invalidate your thesis and how you would monitor it.
A hypothetical example of how to read the signal
Suppose a software company displays an A+ EPS Revision Quant Grade on a particular date. You discover that several analysts raised their current-year EPS estimates after the company reported better-than-expected margins. That is consistent with a favorable revision signal. It still leaves important questions unanswered: whether the margin improvement is recurring, whether revenue growth is slowing, whether the share price already reflects the new outlook, and whether next year’s estimates also moved higher.
Now suppose another company has an A+ grade because its estimates fell less than those of most companies in a distressed sector. The letter is still a high relative rank, but the economic interpretation is different. You would want to see the actual estimate direction before assuming that analysts are broadly optimistic.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Confusing a factor with the overall rating
An EPS-revision grade is not automatically the same as the platform’s overall Quant Rating. Read the complete rating panel and identify which letter belongs to which factor.

Reading “A+” as a percentage
The letter is a category, not a statement that estimates rose by A+ percent or that the stock has a guaranteed probability of success. Use the underlying estimates and dates for magnitude.
Ignoring the sector comparison
Because the grade is relative, compare the company with appropriate sector peers. A cross-sector ranking can hide important differences in cyclicality, accounting, and analyst coverage.
Assuming revisions are permanent
Analysts can reverse an estimate after new information. Track the sequence of changes rather than treating one favorable letter as a lasting condition.

Positive expectations can already be embedded in the share price. Examine valuation and the market’s reaction to the information before concluding that an A+ creates an opportunity.
How to use the grade in a repeatable stock-review process
For screening, an A+ can be a useful starting filter: it helps identify companies whose analyst expectations are improving relative to peers. For deeper work, treat it as a prompt to investigate rather than as the decision itself. Save the displayed grade and date, record the underlying estimate changes you can observe, compare the company with a relevant peer set, and then read the primary financial disclosures.
When monitoring an existing holding, watch for a change from A+ to a lower grade, but do not wait for the letter to change before examining new information. Earnings releases, guidance updates, analyst notes, and industry data can matter before a summary grade reflects them. Conversely, a lower grade does not automatically mean the business is deteriorating; it may reflect peers improving faster or a temporary estimate reset.
The most defensible conclusion is narrow: an A+ EPS Revision Quant Grade from Seeking Alpha says the stock currently ranks very strongly on that provider’s sector-relative measure of analyst EPS-estimate revisions. It is useful context about changing expectations, but the company’s results, financial condition, valuation, risks, and the date of the grade still determine whether the stock fits an investment decision.
