An acquisition changes who owns or controls a cybersecurity company; it does not, by itself, tell you whether your service, contract, data access, support team or product roadmap will change immediately. The practical answer depends on the transaction’s status, your agreement and the buyer’s integration plan.
Do not assume either automatic disruption or permanent continuity. Confirm the deal stage, then obtain written, product-specific answers about support, renewals, service levels, data handling, compliance commitments, lifecycle dates and any migration requirement.
Start with the deal’s actual status
Customer impact is different when a transaction is merely announced, signed but conditional, or legally completed. A forecast closing date is not proof that ownership has transferred. Approvals, shareholder votes, regulatory reviews and closing conditions can delay or change the path.
| Deal stage | What it means for customers | What to verify now |
|---|---|---|
| Rumor or proposal | No confirmed transaction exists. Normal operations usually remain with the current company. | Wait for an official notice; treat unsolicited payment or account-change requests as suspicious. |
| Announced or signed, pending conditions | The parties have described a planned transaction, but control may not have transferred. | Remaining approvals, expected closing window, interim support route and the date of the next customer update. |
| Completed | Ownership or control has transferred under the transaction documents. | Effective contract entity, support contacts, invoices, data-processing terms, product ownership and integration schedule. |
| Integration underway | Systems, teams, products and policies may be changing even if the product still carries its old name. | Written notice periods, migration milestones, access controls, service-level changes and exit or export rights. |
For example, a live FAQ about a proposed transaction between Plurilock and Quantum eMotion described an expected Q4 2026 closing subject to shareholder, legal and regulatory approvals. That language describes a pending deal, not a completed transfer. Its statements about unchanged contracts and separate systems applied while the companies remained separate and can change after closing.

What can remain unchanged—and what can change
Contracts, renewals and invoices
An acquirer may honor existing terms, assign them to a new legal entity, or ask customers to sign replacement paperwork. The answer depends on the contract’s assignment, change-of-control, notice and termination clauses and on applicable law. Do not infer consent requirements or automatic termination rights without reviewing your own agreement with counsel.
Ask whether the current order form, service-level agreement, data-processing addendum, security schedule, renewal date, price and invoicing entity remain in force. Get the answer in writing and retain the notice with your procurement records.
Support and escalation
Support may continue through the acquired company’s portal, phone number and escalation chain for an interim period. A buyer can later consolidate systems or personnel. The key questions are how long the existing route remains valid, whether severity definitions and response targets change, and how customers will be notified before a change takes effect.
In Cisco’s 2021 Kenna Security acquisition FAQ, existing customers were told to continue contacting Kenna for product support and contract renewals, with process changes to be communicated with ample time. That is a historical example of interim continuity, not a statement of Kenna’s current policy.

- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5C NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required
- MOST SECURE PASSKEY: Supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, Yubico OTP, OATH-TOTP/HOTP, Smart card (PIV), and OpenPGP. That means it’s versatile, working almost anywhere you need it
- PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts
Cisco gave similar guidance for Accedian customers: continue using the existing support process for installed products, with advance notice before support-process changes. The announcement excerpt does not establish a publication date, so it should not be treated as a current guarantee.
Service levels and security commitments
Ownership changes do not automatically rewrite uptime targets, response times, maintenance windows or vulnerability-notification duties. They can, however, expose ambiguities if the contract names a particular provider, certification or support geography. Ask for confirmation of:
- Service-level targets, service credits and maintenance procedures.
- Security-update and critical-bug-fix commitments for your edition.
- Incident-notification contacts and escalation authority.
- Certifications, attestations and audit-report availability after the transaction.
- Subprocessor, hosting-region and data-residency changes.
Separate ownership from access to your data
Buying a vendor does not automatically grant every employee of the buyer access to customer environments. Access should still be governed by role-based permissions, contractual purpose limits, logging and approval controls. At the same time, integration projects can introduce new administrators, identity systems, subprocessors or support tools, so customers need transaction-specific confirmation.

The Plurilock–Quantum eMotion FAQ stated that, while the companies remained separate, they were not sharing customer data or environment access. That is a statement about that transaction’s interim state; it is not a universal rule for acquisitions or a promise about post-close operations.

Questions for the vendor’s privacy and security teams
- Which legal entity is the data controller or processor after closing?
- Will new personnel, affiliates, support centers or subprocessors be able to access telemetry, logs, credentials, tickets or production environments?
- What purposes, retention periods, encryption controls and approval workflows apply?
- Will processing locations, transfer mechanisms or data-residency options change?
- Are existing data-processing terms, breach-notification windows and audit rights still valid?
- How will privileged access be monitored, reviewed and revoked during integration?
Ask for an updated data-processing addendum, subprocessor list or security notice when one is required by your agreement. A public FAQ can be useful context, but it is not a substitute for the terms governing your account.
Product continuity and migration are separate decisions
An acquirer may keep a product intact, combine it with a broader platform, offer a migration path or eventually retire it. “Integration planned” does not mean the integrated feature exists today, and “continued support” does not mean indefinite availability.
| Customer path | Questions that determine risk |
|---|---|
| Continue on the current product | For how long? Which releases receive security fixes? Are new features still planned? Are licenses and integrations unchanged? |
| Optional migration | Is migration genuinely optional, and until what date? Can you export data, preserve history and test integrations before switching? |
| Required migration | What is the deadline, replacement SKU, price, feature parity, implementation support and rollback plan? |
| Product retirement | What are the end-of-sale and end-of-support dates? Can you terminate, receive a refund or obtain assisted export? |
| Platform integration | Which functions are already integrated, which are only planned, and what permissions or architecture changes will be needed? |
Compare options on continued-use period, support duration, security-fix policy, licensing, data export, integration work, operational risk and termination rights. Do not assume that every transaction offers all of these choices.
What recent transactions illustrate
Cisco and Kenna Security: an interim support route
Cisco completed its acquisition of Kenna Security on June 30, 2021. Cisco described Kenna’s risk-based vulnerability-management platform and told existing customers to continue using Kenna for product support and renewals, with any process changes communicated in advance.

The same FAQ said Kenna’s platform prioritized more than 7 billion vulnerabilities and cited Cisco’s 2020 CISO Benchmark Study for the statement that “half of all legitimate alerts are not remediated.” Those are Cisco’s descriptions of its platform and cited research, not an independent count of exploitable vulnerabilities in a particular customer environment. The support instruction is historical and should not be used as a current policy without confirmation.
Cisco and Accedian: installed-product support
Cisco’s completion announcement for Accedian advised customers to keep using the existing support process for installed products and said Cisco would provide advance notice before changing that process. This demonstrates a common interim arrangement: the buyer assumes ownership while the customer-facing route remains familiar for a period.
Plurilock and Quantum eMotion: pending close and separate operations
The parties’ FAQ described an agreement expected to close in Q4 2026, subject to shareholder, legal and regulatory approvals. At the time described, contracts, service levels, invoices and customer contacts were unchanged; services and support continued; and the companies said they were not sharing customer data or environment access while still separate.

IBM QRadar SaaS assets and Palo Alto Networks: continue until ready to move
Palo Alto Networks announced completion of its acquisition of IBM’s QRadar SaaS assets on October 4, 2024. The announcement said QRadar SaaS customers could remain on their current deployment with service and support until they were ready to move to Cortex XSIAM. It also described continued IBM features and support, including security and critical bug fixes, for customers staying on QRadar on premises.
This is an example of a migration path tied to customer readiness rather than an immediate forced cutover. It does not establish that other acquisitions will provide the same period, feature set or on-premises option.
ServiceNow and Armis: standalone product with planned integration
ServiceNow announced completion of its Armis acquisition in 2026. It said Armis Centrix operated with ServiceNow product, engineering and global go-to-market support, was integrated with the ServiceNow AI Platform and remained available as a standalone product, with deeper integration expected over time.

“Most security platforms stop at the alert. ServiceNow closes the loop,” said Amit Zavery, ServiceNow’s president, chief operating officer and chief product officer. That is vendor positioning, not an independent assessment. The phrase “expected over time” describes a forward-looking plan, not a completed feature that customers can assume is available.

- Collect the primary notices. Save the acquisition announcement, customer FAQ, contract notices and account-team messages. Record publication dates and distinguish completed facts from future-tense plans.
- Map your dependencies. List products, editions, APIs, integrations, data stores, support entitlements, renewal dates, administrators and business processes that rely on the vendor.
- Check the agreement. Review change-of-control, assignment, termination, renewal, service-level, audit, data-processing, residency and export clauses. Ask counsel to interpret obligations for your jurisdiction.
- Send a written question set. Request named owners and dates for answers about support, contracts, data access, security fixes, roadmap and migration.
- Validate technical access. Review privileged accounts, SSO applications, API keys, certificates, subprocessors, firewall rules and vendor-managed agents. Revoke stale access and require approval for new access.
- Test resilience. Confirm backups, configuration exports, log retention, incident contacts and a workable replacement or rollback plan before any migration.
- Set review points. Schedule checks at signing, closing, renewal and each announced migration milestone. Update risk registers and executive owners.
How to detect avoidable risk
Healthy customer communication
- A dated notice identifies the transaction stage and the legal entity responsible.
- Support contacts, renewal routes and service-level effects are stated plainly.
- Migration documentation includes deadlines, data export, testing, licensing and rollback details.
- Privacy notices identify new processors, locations and access controls.
- Security advisories and product-lifecycle dates are published through established channels.
Warning signs
- A message demands payment, credentials or bank-detail changes without independent verification.
- Different account teams give conflicting answers about support or renewal status.
- The vendor announces integration but cannot identify current feature availability or a delivery date.
- End-of-support dates appear without an export method, replacement terms or migration assistance.
- New administrators or subprocessors appear without corresponding contractual or security documentation.
Verify unusual requests through a known account contact or the vendor’s established portal. In its transaction FAQ, Plurilock said official communications would come from company addresses or the account team and that it would not request payments, credentials or bank-detail changes by email. Apply that warning as transaction-specific guidance, while following your own anti-fraud procedures.
A practical decision rule
Keep operating when the service remains supported, contractual and secure, but document the vendor’s written commitments and monitor the stated milestones. Start contingency planning when support ownership, data access, lifecycle dates or migration requirements are unclear. Escalate to procurement, security and counsel when a proposed change affects service levels, regulated data, residency, renewal economics or your ability to export and terminate.
