On October 6, 2026, one website’s nginx access log recorded 2,849 total requests. Its author, K1R4, classified approximately 321 of them—about 11.3%—as bot requests across 12 user-agent identities. That is a one-day snapshot from one site, not a benchmark for new websites, and it says nothing by itself about how many pages Google indexed.

What appeared in the one-day log sample

K1R4 reports that the October 6, 2026 sample came from an nginx access log. The author counted requests by matching user-agent strings against bot-name text in Python. The raw log and full reproduction materials are not available in the cited account, so these figures should be read as the author’s reported observations, not independently verified measurements. A user-agent label also does not prove that a request came from the named organization.

Recorded user-agent category Requests reported
YandexBot 83
Googlebot, desktop and mobile categories combined 80
ClaudeBot 49
SofyaBot 28
AhrefsBot 22
GPTBot 20
CensysInspect 19
Bingbot 7

These are counts reported by K1R4 for that day on that site. The source also lists 12 unique bot identities, but the figures above cover only the identities with counts specified in the available account. Its claimed subtotal of 183 AI-crawler requests does not reconcile with the listed components, which sum to 182 when both Googlebot desktop and mobile counts are included. Googlebot is Google’s Search crawler, so grouping it as an AI crawler should not be taken as a verified classification of its purpose. Google describes Googlebot as its web crawler for Search.

Which pages and files got requests?

K1R4 reports 35 requests to robots.txt and 16 to sitemap.xml. The account also says tutorials received about 50 combined crawler visits, blog posts about 18, and individual tools about 20. Its four listed tutorial-page counts are 15, 11, 11, and 11, totaling 48 rather than 50; treat the aggregate as approximate rather than an exact comparison.

In this sample, the reported tutorial counts exceeded those for individual tool pages. The author suggests that tutorials’ text, code examples, internal links, or semantic structure may help explain the pattern. The log does not test those explanations: it records requests, not why a crawler selected a URL or whether page content caused the difference.

A request is not the same as a crawl or an indexed page

An access log records HTTP requests reaching the server. A request may be made by a crawler, but its user-agent string alone does not authenticate the crawler or establish what it did with the response. Google distinguishes crawling—fetching a page—from indexing, which involves processing and evaluating content for possible inclusion in Search. Not every crawled page is indexed. Google explains how crawling, indexing, and serving results differ.

That distinction answers the practical question: a busy log is not proof of search visibility. To learn whether Google has indexed a specific page, use Search Console’s URL Inspection or review the Page Indexing report; do not infer indexation from request volume alone.

What a new site can do with this information

Use logs to see what reached the server

Review access logs for requested paths, response codes, timestamps, and user-agent strings. This can help identify whether useful URLs are receiving requests and reveal repeated requests to unexpected paths. Treat the user-agent as a claim made by the requester unless you separately verify crawler identity.

Help crawlers discover useful URLs

Google can discover URLs through links and submitted sitemaps, and it may crawl and render JavaScript pages. Discovery does not mean every URL will be crawled. Google outlines ways to ask for a crawl and how URL discovery works.

Keep the sitemap current and include the canonical URLs you want considered for Search. A sitemap is a hint, not a promise of download, crawling, or immediate indexation; Google says not to expect every sitemap URL to be crawled. Google’s sitemap guidance calls sitemaps “useful suggestions to Googlebot, not absolute requirements.”

Check access and indexation intent separately

Use robots.txt to manage crawler access, not as a reliable way to keep a URL out of Google results. A blocked URL can still appear in results without a snippet. If a page should be excluded with a noindex instruction, Google must be able to fetch it to read that instruction. Google’s robots.txt documentation explains the distinction.

For most small or new sites, advanced crawl-budget tuning is not the first priority. Google says its crawl-budget guidance is mainly for very large or rapidly changing sites; for ordinary Search use, keeping the sitemap current and checking the Page Indexing report is generally adequate. Google’s crawl-budget guidance sets out when that work is relevant.

What this snapshot cannot establish

  • Whether one day’s crawler mix is typical of new websites.
  • Whether every user-agent string represented the crawler it named.
  • Why a particular page was requested, or whether a request resulted in useful content being fetched.
  • Whether any requested URL was indexed or ranked in search results.

The article also describes security-related probes, including path-traversal and PHP-eval attempts, that it says returned 404 or 400 responses. Those are the author’s interpretations of the same log, not the findings of an independent security audit; crawler counts and security probing are distinct kinds of traffic.

The defensible conclusion is narrow: K1R4’s account describes 2,849 total requests and approximately 321 bot requests on one site on October 6, 2026. It offers a useful example of what access logs can show, but not a general measure of crawler behavior or an indexation report.
