The best Weglot alternative depends on where you want translations stored and how your team will maintain them. For a self-hosted WordPress site, compare TranslatePress, WPML and Polylang first: they keep translation work in the WordPress ecosystem and offer different editing and pricing models. Keep Weglot as the hosted-service baseline if you prefer a managed translation layer and accept its subscription and portability trade-offs.
Choose only after counting your sites, languages and translatable words, checking your page builder and WooCommerce extensions on staging, and deciding what must happen if a license or subscription ends. A low headline price can become expensive after add-ons, machine-translation charges and human review.
Weglot alternatives at a glance
The products below are not interchangeable in architecture or workflow. TranslatePress, WPML and Polylang are WordPress plugins that manage multilingual content within the site; Weglot is the hosted reference point in this comparison.
| Product | Translation location and workflow | Published cost information | Store and integration considerations | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TranslatePress | Translations are edited visually on the front end and stored in the site’s database. The vendor says existing translations remain in the database when an annual license is not renewed. TranslatePress pricing | Personal €99/year for one site and 50,000 AI-translated words; Business €199/year for three sites and 200,000 words; Developer €349/year for unlimited sites and 500,000 words. Pricing and allowances are the vendor’s listed annual figures and can change. | Validate your theme, page builder, forms and WooCommerce extensions on a staging copy. AI allowance is finite, so include review and any additional service fees in the budget. | Site owners who want page-level visual editing and local control of translation data. |
| WPML | WordPress-based translation management with a side-by-side/editorial workflow, broad integration claims and tools for assigning and tracking translation work. Feature availability varies by plan. WPML’s comparison | Official pricing lists Blog €39/year, Multilingual CMS €99/year and Agency €199/year. Confirm which capabilities your plan includes at checkout: WPML pricing. | WPML documents WooCommerce support and multilingual SEO features, but your specific extensions, custom fields and checkout should still be tested. | Teams that need structured translation management, broad WordPress integration or documented WooCommerce support. |
| Polylang | Plugin-based multilingual management suited to manual translation. A free starting point is available; advanced features are in Pro. | Polylang Pro starts at €99/year. WooCommerce support is a separate add-on starting at €99/year. The vendor lists a 50% renewal discount. Polylang pricing | DeepL integration requires your own API key. Test product, cart, checkout, email and extension strings separately. | Manual translators and site owners who want to start with a free plugin before buying Pro or WooCommerce features. |
| Weglot (hosted baseline) | Translations are hosted outside the WordPress database, according to WPML’s comparison. Editing is provided through a hosted service rather than only through native WordPress content records. | Exact current plan prices were not established in the available official sources. A September 2026 guide from a competing service reports word and language limits and says export is available only on higher plans; treat those points as claims to verify in Weglot’s current documentation, not as a definitive price list. September 2026 comparison | Convenience comes with subscription, limit and migration questions. Confirm export format, what remains active after cancellation and how language URLs are served before committing. | Businesses that prefer a managed hosted layer and are comfortable with recurring service dependence. |
All prices are subject to tax, region, billing interval and future changes. The table is a starting point, not a guarantee that every feature will work with your installation.

How to choose: the decisions that change the result
Where should translations live?
With a database-oriented WordPress plugin, translations are part of the site you back up, migrate and operate. That can simplify ownership and continuity, but it also increases database size and makes compatibility testing your responsibility. A hosted service can reduce the amount of multilingual infrastructure you maintain in WordPress, yet your translated output may depend on an active account and the provider’s export rules.
Ask for a demonstrable export before you switch. Confirm whether you receive standard WordPress content, a portable file, or only a copy that requires another service. Also ask what happens to translated URLs, metadata and cached pages when the account or license ends.
How will people edit and review translations?
TranslatePress is aimed at a visual workflow: open the rendered page, select text and edit it in context. That is useful when a translator needs to see spacing, buttons and design rather than a list of strings. WPML is the stronger candidate when work must be assigned, tracked and reviewed across a team. Polylang suits a hands-on manual process in which site administrators maintain language versions directly.
Machine translation should be treated as a draft. Establish a review owner, a terminology list and a process for checking navigation, legal text, product attributes and text embedded in images. The availability of a language engine does not make its output publication-ready.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Every WordPress site covered by the license.
- Each additional language and the number of unique words that will be translated.
- Included AI or machine-translation allowances and the price of exceeding them.
- WooCommerce or other paid add-ons.
- API charges, such as a DeepL account that you supply yourself for Polylang integration.
- Human editing, testing and maintenance after theme or plugin updates.
- Tax, regional pricing and renewal terms.
For a reliable estimate, export or crawl your current content inventory, remove duplicated boilerplate, count product and taxonomy text separately, and add a growth margin. A site with two languages and 20,000 unique words can have a very different cost from a site with ten languages and the same page count.
What must happen to SEO URLs?
For every candidate, verify language-specific URL structures, translated titles and slugs, canonical tags, hreflang relationships and XML sitemap entries. WPML’s comparison describes these as common multilingual SEO capabilities in its evaluated field, but the exact markup and sitemap behavior depend on your configuration. Test the actual rendered source and crawl the staging site rather than relying on a feature checklist.

Compatibility is a property of your site, not just the plugin. Build a staging copy and test the real theme, page builder, custom fields, forms, membership rules, search, caching, analytics and every WooCommerce extension. Pay special attention to content generated by shortcodes, JavaScript widgets and third-party APIs, because those strings may not behave like ordinary post content.
TranslatePress: visual editing with local translation storage
TranslatePress is the most direct choice when the translator wants to work on the page itself. Its visual editor lets you inspect the front-end context while changing text, which can expose layout problems that are easy to miss in a detached string list. It is particularly useful for small teams in which the person translating also understands the site’s design and conversion goals.
Plans and included AI allowance
| Plan | Annual price listed by vendor | Sites | Included AI-translated words |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | €99/year | 1 | 50,000 |
| Business | €199/year | 3 | 200,000 |
| Developer | €349/year | Unlimited | 500,000 |
These are the annual figures and allowances listed on the vendor’s pricing page, not a promise that the same terms will apply at renewal or in every region. Count words across all translated languages according to the product’s current measurement rules, and budget for human review of AI output.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
What happens if you do not renew?
TranslatePress states that existing translations remain in your site’s database when the license is not renewed. Separate the continued presence of saved translations from access to updates, support or premium functionality: confirm the current policy for the exact extensions you use before allowing a license to lapse.
When TranslatePress is a good fit
- You want to correct a heading, button or form label while seeing its exact position on the page.
- Your organization wants translations backed up with the WordPress site rather than maintained solely in a hosted account.
- You have a small number of sites and can stay within the selected plan’s AI allowance.
Choose another workflow if translators need formal assignment queues, extensive linguistic review stages or a very large multilingual publishing operation.
WPML: structured management for larger WordPress projects
WPML is the candidate to examine when multilingual publishing is a team process rather than an occasional administrator task. Its own comparison highlights broad WordPress integration, translation-management functions and multilingual SEO capabilities; treat those statements as vendor claims and confirm them against your stack.
Plans and prices
| Plan | Annual price listed on the official purchase page | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Blog | €39/year | Entry plan; verify the features and site limits shown at checkout. |
| Multilingual CMS | €99/year | Intended for fuller multilingual site functionality; confirm included components. |
| Agency | €199/year | For agency use; confirm the current site allowance and support terms. |
The official purchase page is the authority for current plan contents. Pricing presentations can differ between comparison articles and the purchase flow, and taxes or regional billing can change the amount charged.
Quality claim that needs context
WPML reports a score of 90.0/100 for its PTC translation engine versus 77.7/100 for DeepL in a 2026 study summary. According to WPML, the study covered 227 production webpages, six languages and nine quality dimensions. This is a vendor-published study summary, not an independent assessment of every plugin or a guarantee for your language pair, content type or editing process. Use it as one data point and have native or expert reviewers assess your own pages.

When WPML is a good fit
- Several people must request, assign, translate and review work.
- Your site uses WooCommerce and you need the documented multilingual commerce support checked against your extensions.
- You need a more formal content-operations model than editing isolated strings on the front end.
Polylang: a manual-first route with a free starting point
Polylang is worth considering when the primary requirement is manual translation and you want to begin without a paid license. Pro adds advanced capabilities, while WooCommerce support is purchased separately rather than assumed to be included in the core plugin.
Published costs and add-ons
- Polylang Pro starts at €99/year.
- The WooCommerce add-on starts at €99/year.
- The vendor lists a 50% discount on renewals.
- DeepL integration requires your own API key, so the plugin price is not the full machine-translation cost.
Check the current licensing page for the exact bundle, site count and renewal conditions. If you sell products, include translated attributes, variations, transactional emails, cart messages, shipping text and payment instructions in your test plan.
When Polylang is a good fit
- You or your translators prefer to write and maintain language versions manually.
- You want to validate the workflow with a free plugin before paying for Pro.
- You are comfortable managing an external translation API key and its usage costs when machine assistance is needed.
Polylang is less attractive when your priority is a highly visual editing experience or a centralized assignment-and-status system for a large translation department.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Weglot as the hosted-service baseline
Weglot remains relevant when convenience and a managed service matter more than keeping every translation record in WordPress. WPML’s comparison says Weglot stores translations outside the WordPress database. That architecture can make initial setup feel simpler, but it creates a dependency that you must evaluate before migration.

The available evidence does not establish a current official Weglot price table for this article. A September 2026 guide published by a competing translation service says Weglot applies word and language limits and that translation export is available only on higher plans. Because that is a secondary, competitor-published account, verify the current limits, export format and cancellation behavior directly in Weglot’s documentation and account terms before relying on them.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
For a hosted option, ask four practical questions: Can you export all translated pages and metadata in a format another solution can use? Do language URLs continue resolving after cancellation? Which content is counted toward the word limit? What happens to machine-generated translations and edits if you downgrade? Get the answers in writing for your plan.
Scenario-based recommendations
Choose TranslatePress for visual, in-context editing
Select TranslatePress when seeing the live layout while translating is the deciding factor and local database storage is important. The Personal, Business and Developer tiers make the site-count and AI-word trade-off explicit, so compare your inventory with the relevant allowance rather than choosing by name alone.
Choose WPML for team operations and complex WordPress stacks
Start with WPML when translation requests, assignments, review status and WooCommerce integration are central requirements. Confirm the exact plan capabilities and run a staging test of your custom fields, builder templates and checkout before purchase.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose Polylang for manual translation or a low-commitment start
Use Polylang when a manual workflow is acceptable and you want a free entry point. Add the Pro and WooCommerce costs only when the site needs them, and treat a DeepL API key as a separate operational expense.
Stay with a hosted model when operational simplicity outweighs portability
Keep Weglot in consideration when you want a managed service and do not want translation records maintained as native WordPress data. Make the subscription, word-limit and export answers part of procurement, not an assumption made after launch.
How to switch safely from Weglot
A multilingual migration can break links, metadata and checkout even when the visible page text looks correct. Use a reversible staging process.
- Make a complete backup. Save the database, uploads, configuration and a list of every active plugin and theme. Record the current language URLs, redirects, canonical tags, hreflang output and sitemap locations.
- Inventory translated content. List posts, pages, products, categories, tags, menus, widgets, forms, emails, SEO titles, descriptions, image alt text and strings generated by extensions. Count unique words and identify content that is rendered only by JavaScript.
- Clone production to staging. Block search indexing, use a temporary domain or password, and disable outbound email or payment capture. Keep the current multilingual setup available so you can compare page by page.
- Confirm export and ownership. Export from the hosted service using its documented method and open the files. Check that translations, language codes, slugs, metadata and relationships between source and translated content are present. If the service offers no portable export for your plan, record the manual recreation work before proceeding.
- Install the replacement without changing production. Configure the default language, enabled languages, locale codes and URL format. Import or recreate translations, then map each source URL to its new language URL.
- Rebuild navigation and commerce flows. Translate menus, taxonomies, product variations, cart and checkout messages, account pages, order emails, shipping text and payment instructions. Submit test orders with a non-production gateway.
- Validate SEO output. Crawl each language version and inspect title tags, descriptions, canonicals, hreflang links, status codes, internal links and XML sitemaps. Check that translated slugs do not collide with existing paths.
- Measure visual and functional regressions. Compare representative templates on desktop and mobile. Test forms, search, login, caching, analytics events, cookie banners and any content loaded asynchronously.
- Plan redirects and launch. Add permanent redirects for changed language URLs, lower the DNS or cache transition risk, monitor logs and Search Console coverage, and keep the old backup until traffic and conversions are stable.
Do not cancel the old service immediately after switching. Keep it available during the validation window required by your rollback plan, then follow its documented cancellation and export process.

- Compatibility results for the actual theme, builder, custom fields, forms and WooCommerce extensions.
- Decision on database ownership versus hosted dependency.
- Annual license, renewal, add-on, API and human-review costs calculated from actual volume.
- Documented export format and post-cancellation behavior.
- Language URL map, redirects, canonical and hreflang validation.
- Translated checkout, account, email, legal and transactional-message tests.
- Monitoring plan for crawl errors, broken links, indexing and conversion changes after launch.
Bottom line
There is no universal winner. TranslatePress is the clearest match for visual editing and local translation storage; WPML is the stronger starting point for team management and demanding WordPress or WooCommerce integrations; Polylang fits manual translators and a free-first approach; and Weglot remains the convenience-oriented hosted baseline. Make the decision with your real word count, language count, renewal budget, editing process and migration requirements—not with a feature list or headline price alone.
