Webflow and Squarespace offer different kinds of value. Webflow is worth considering if you need detailed design control, structured CMS content, or plan-specific site features and can manage its separate Workspace and Site plans. Squarespace is worth considering if you want a template-led workflow with Fluid Engine editing and an integrated website subscription. For an online store, compare each tier’s item limits and platform fees as well as payment-processing charges. The right choice depends on your site, workflow, and total cost—not a universal winner.
How the builders differ
Design workflow and control
Squarespace centers its website workflow on designer templates and Fluid Engine, its drag-and-drop editor for version 7.1 sites. Squarespace says Fluid Engine is included across its current website tiers. Webflow’s site plans list features such as CMS capabilities, code components, and custom code, with availability depending on plan. These describe different workflows and levels of plan-specific control; the available evidence does not establish that one is easier to use or produces better designs for every site.
Structured content
Webflow has CMS-specific plans and item and collection limits. If you are building a publication, directory, or site with frequently updated structured content, compare the current CMS limits with your expected content volume before choosing. Do not assume a limit applies across all plans.

Webflow separates Workspace plans from Site plans. A Workspace supports staging and team or client collaboration; a Site plan adds publishing, custom-domain hosting, and site-specific features. Each site hosted on a custom domain needs its own Site plan, so multi-site owners should include each site in their budget.

Squarespace presents its website subscription as a more integrated package: its Help Center says website subscriptions include hosting, professionally designed layouts, SEO best-practice support, and editing through the app. Some Squarespace products are priced separately, and commerce features vary by tier.

The following USD prices were shown on the vendors’ pricing pages accessed October 7, 2026. They are not guaranteed future prices. Billing interval, geography, taxes, promotions, add-ons, number of sites, and existing-customer transition terms can affect the amount you pay.

Webflow also offers separate Workspace options, including a free option and paid plans with additional staging and collaboration capabilities. Count a paid Workspace separately from a paid Site plan if your workflow requires its features. Webflow lists optional products such as Analyze, Optimize, and Localize, which can also affect total cost.

Squarespace says annual website plans include one year of free domain registration on eligible domains, subject to its terms. That is a limited offer, not a permanently free domain.
Which builder suits your site?
Consider Webflow for control or CMS-led content
- Your layouts or site-specific customization needs call for the controls and features available on a particular Webflow plan.
- You manage a publication, directory, or other structured content and have checked the CMS plan’s current item and collection limits.
- You are comfortable evaluating Workspace collaboration needs separately from publishing and Site plan costs.
Consider Squarespace for a template-led, integrated workflow
- You want to start from designer templates and edit a version 7.1 site with Fluid Engine.
- You prefer a website subscription that combines hosting and site features in a tiered offering.
- You have confirmed that the selected tier includes the commerce features your site needs.
How to compare the total cost of an online store
A platform transaction fee is only one part of store costs. Webflow’s Ecommerce Standard lists a 2% platform transaction fee; Plus and Advanced list 0%. Payment processor charges are separate, so a 0% Webflow platform fee does not mean payment processing is free. Squarespace allows selling on paid website plans, but commerce features and fees vary by tier. Compare the exact functions and charges that apply to your store rather than assuming every feature is included.
- Confirm the item allowance fits your catalogue.
- Check platform transaction fees and payment-processing fees separately.
- Verify the tier supports the payment methods, shipping options, analytics, and other store functions you need.
- For Squarespace, consult the current plan guidance for selling on Basic, Core, Plus, and Advanced before selecting a tier.
Make an apples-to-apples price comparison
- Match billing intervals. Compare annual prices with annual prices, or monthly with monthly; the listed Squarespace plans have different monthly and annual rates.
- Count websites. For Webflow, budget for a Site plan for each site hosted on a custom domain.
- Add collaboration needs. Include any paid Webflow Workspace capabilities your team needs, rather than treating a Site plan as the entire Webflow cost.
- Include required extras. Check separately priced products and add-ons, domain terms, and the commerce functions required.
- Verify the checkout terms. The prices here were surfaced on October 7, 2026; confirm current limits, billing terms, taxes, and availability for your location before purchasing.
Check plan names and changes before buying
Squarespace’s current Basic, Core, Plus, and Advanced tiers replaced the older Personal, Business, Commerce Basic, and Commerce Advanced names. Older comparison articles may therefore describe a different plan structure. Webflow announced plan simplification effective May 13, 2026, with transition terms for some existing customers. Check the current pricing page and, if you already subscribe, the terms that apply to your account.
