Check a Web3 announcement by breaking it into individual claims, tying each factual statement to a dated source or technical artifact, and asking someone independent to verify the match. Treat automated checks as supporting evidence—not proof that a contract or claim is safe. This is a practical analogy to software pull-request review, not a formal Ethereum communications standard.

What does a pull-request-style announcement review check?

A pull request makes a proposed code change available for inspection before it is accepted. Applied to an announcement, the same discipline means making claims specific enough to verify, showing the evidence behind them, and inviting a reviewer who did not write the copy to check the evidence against the wording.

Ethereum.org recommends routing code modifications through pull requests and having at least one independent reviewer. Extending that habit to communications is an editorial practice, not an official rule for Web3 announcements. Ethereum.org’s smart-contract security guidance also cautions that audits are an additional review round, not a way to catch every bug.

How to review an announcement step by step

1. Split the copy into checkable claims

Separate factual statements from interpretation, plans, and aspirations. A sentence such as “the contract is live” is a factual claim; “this will transform decentralized finance” is a prediction or promotional interpretation. Give each factual or technical claim its own evidence check rather than letting a broad announcement stand as one unexamined assertion.

For each claim, ask what artifact could substantiate it. Depending on the statement, that might be a contract address, repository and commit, dated audit report, governance proposal, deployment record, or official release note. Make the connection explicit so readers can see which evidence supports which wording.

2. Match the wording to the evidence

Read the underlying artifact, not only a summary or a link to an auditor’s name. Check that it concerns the relevant contract, version, network, deployment, or time period. If the evidence covers only one component or an earlier version, narrow the announcement so it does not imply broader coverage.

For a security review, Ethereum.org’s token-integration checklist says to consider the assessment’s level of effort, the security firm’s reputation, and the number and severity of findings. Look at how findings were handled, too: distinguish issues that were fixed from those that remain open or were accepted with an explanation. The word “audited” alone does not tell readers what was examined or what the review found.

3. Ask for an independent human review

Have someone who did not draft the announcement compare its concrete statements with the linked artifacts. Ask them to flag claims that overstate the evidence, omit important scope, or rely on an ambiguous phrase. This adapts Ethereum.org’s independent-review practice for code to communications; the source recommends independent reviewers for pull requests, not for announcements specifically.

4. Use automated checks as support

Ethereum.org’s security checklist recommends reviewing contracts with Slither and describes Crytic as a way to surface security issues in GitHub pull requests. It also notes that some concerns, including front-running and risky interactions with external DeFi components, are difficult for automated tools to find.

Automation can help identify issues in code, but its output does not verify every claim in an announcement or certify that a contract is safe. A clean tool result is one input for human review, not a substitute for it.

How should an audit claim be phrased?

Describe what was reviewed and point to the report. Avoid turning the existence of an audit into a claim that the project or contract is safe. Ethereum.org states: “Smart contract audits won’t catch every bug and are mostly designed to provide an additional round of reviews, which can help detect issues missed by developers during initial development and testing.”

A precise announcement should let readers inspect the report and understand its scope and findings. If the report does not support a broad claim, make the claim narrower. That principle applies even when a reputable firm conducted the work: reputation does not expand the scope of the review.

Where this method has limits

There is no universal checklist here for every kind of Web3 announcement. A deployment record may help verify that a contract was deployed, but it cannot by itself establish that token economics are sound, a partnership will deliver a promised result, or a governance proposal is beneficial. Those claims need evidence suited to their subject and, where needed, reviewers with the relevant expertise.

Keep the boundary clear: software-review practices provide a useful model for scrutiny, but they do not make an announcement true or a project safe. The review is only as useful as the evidence, its scope, and the care taken to compare it with the words readers see.
