Weatherling is a Mac menu-bar app that animates rain and snow around your open desktop windows. It is an ambient visual effect—not a weather forecast—and is available for Macs running macOS 14.0 or later.
What Weatherling does—and what it doesn’t
Weatherling places simulated precipitation around your desktop windows. The developer says raindrops land on exposed window edges and run down their sides, while snow gathers along window tops. Its overlay is described as click-through, so it is designed to sit over your desktop without blocking ordinary clicks.
It is not a screensaver, wallpaper, or weather service. You choose rain, snow, or a combination; the app does not report local conditions, temperature, radar, or a forecast, and its effects are not connected to the weather outside. The descriptions of how precipitation behaves are the developer’s product claims, not independently tested results. Weatherling’s official homepage shows a browser illustration of rain on windows.

Displays, Spaces, and full-screen apps
The developer says Weatherling can run on selected displays and follows Spaces. By default, it pauses on a display while a full-screen app is open; a setting lets you enable the effect over full-screen apps. You can also set per-app pause rules.

The developer reports that a recent measured run used about 3–4% of one CPU core, while warning that this figure does not establish battery life. It should not be read as a guarantee for every Mac, workload, or setting. The performance page provides the context for that measurement.

Price, purchase, and trying the effect
In the US Mac App Store, the listed price is $1.99 as a one-time purchase, with no subscription or in-app purchases. Apple sets prices locally in other storefronts, so the amount may differ by country. Weatherling is distributed through the Mac App Store. The developer says there is no trial version, but its homepage has a live browser demo; that demonstration is not a trial of the installed app. Refund requests go through Apple’s report-a-problem process. See the developer’s pricing information.
Privacy and permissions
The developer says Weatherling runs in Apple’s App Sandbox and does not request Screen Recording or Accessibility permission. Its App Store description also says the app requires no account, uses no in-app analytics, and has no score server. These are developer statements, not an independent privacy audit. The App Store listing contains the developer’s description.

Is Weatherling right for your Mac?
Weatherling is for someone who wants a decorative desktop effect that can be adjusted around open windows—not someone looking for local weather information. Check that your Mac runs macOS 14.0 or later, and use the homepage demo if you want to see the visual idea before buying. The homepage lists autumn leaves and other additions under “Coming in 1.4”; those are roadmap items, not features to assume are available in version 1.3.
