The best waterproof Wi-Fi speaker depends on where you will use it and how much water protection you need. For a large outdoor gathering, consider the JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi; for a genuinely compact option, the Sonos Roam 2 is easier to carry. The five speakers below combine Wi-Fi with Bluetooth, but their water ratings range from IP67 to splash-resistant IPX4—so “waterproof” does not mean every model can be submerged.
How these five speakers differ
This is a use-case shortlist based on manufacturer specifications and 2026 buying-guide coverage, not a uniform comparative listening test. Wi-Fi supports home streaming and ecosystem features; Bluetooth is useful when you take a speaker away from your home network. Confirm current prices, availability and service support before buying, as those details can change.
| Model | Water rating | Connectivity evidence | Best fit and trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi | IP67 | Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; JBL lists AirPlay, Alexa Multi-Room Music, Chromecast built-in and Spotify Connect. | Large outdoor gatherings; JBL lists 15 lb (6.70 kg), so it is substantial to carry. |
| Sonos Roam 2 | IP67 | Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, according to Sonos. | Compact carry: Sonos lists 0.95 lb (0.43 kg) and dimensions of 6.61 × 2.44 × 2.36 inches. |
| Sonos Play | IP67, according to 2026 editorial sources | Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, according to TechRadar. | A newer Sonos ecosystem candidate; confirm specifications and availability with Sonos before relying on detailed claims. |
| Sonos Move 2 | IP56 | Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, stereo pairing and whole-home Sonos grouping, according to Sonos. | A larger Sonos option for a patio or garden, less suited to carrying far afield; not an IP67 immersion-rated model. |
| Bose Portable Home Speaker | IPX4 | Bose’s 2019 launch release lists Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and built-in Google Assistant and Alexa at launch. | For light splash exposure and Bose features; IPX4 is not an immersion rating, and the connectivity details are launch-era. |
Choose by setting and carry needs
For a large outdoor gathering: JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi
JBL lists built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a built-in powerbank, IP67 protection and up to 24 hours of playback. That runtime is a manufacturer claim qualified by volume and audio content, not a guarantee for every listening session. At 15 lb on JBL’s current US listing, this is better suited to a planned outdoor setup than effortless everyday carry. JBL lists AirPlay, Alexa Multi-Room Music, Chromecast built-in and Spotify Connect for Wi-Fi streaming. JBL product information.

For the smallest option: Sonos Roam 2
Sonos documents Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and IP67 protection for the Roam 2. Its listed 0.95 lb weight and 6.61 × 2.44 × 2.36-inch dimensions make it the clearest compact contrast to the much heavier JBL. Sonos describes it as fully waterproof; follow the manufacturer’s care instructions rather than treating routine submersion as normal use. Sonos Roam 2 information.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a newer Sonos candidate: Sonos Play
What Hi-Fi?’s 2026 guide describes the Sonos Play as Wi-Fi-ready and IP67, while TechRadar’s 2026 guide describes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and says it weighs more than the Roam 2. These are editorial-source claims; no official Sonos specification page was established here. Check Sonos directly for the model’s current specifications, availability and price before making a purchase decision. What Hi-Fi? 2026 guide; TechRadar 2026 guide.
For a patio or garden in the Sonos system: Sonos Move 2
Sonos documents Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, plus stereo pairing and whole-home grouping. Its IP56 rating is distinct from IP67: Sonos discusses spills, splashes, rain, dirt and dust, but the rating should not be treated as permission to submerge it. What Hi-Fi? characterizes it as a larger, semi-portable option better suited to moving around a garden than carrying long distances. Sonos Move 2 information.

What IP67, IP56 and IPX4 mean here
IP stands for Ingress Protection. In an IP code, the first digit rates protection against solids such as dust; the second rates water protection. An X means that the code does not state a rating for that digit. In What Hi-Fi?’s explainer, IP67 describes dustproofing and protection against immersion to one meter for up to 30 minutes. JBL Support gives the same stated condition for IP67 and specifically lists the Boombox 3 Wi-Fi. These are defined protection conditions, not advice to use a speaker underwater or to disregard its care instructions. JBL Support: what IP67 means; What Hi-Fi? IP-rating explainer.

- Choose the JBL if high outdoor capability and the listed streaming options matter more than low weight.
- Choose the Roam 2 if a small, light speaker with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an IP67 rating is the priority.
- Investigate the Sonos Play if you want a newer Sonos option, but verify its official current specifications first.
- Choose the Move 2 for a larger Sonos system role around a patio or garden, not for immersion protection or long-distance carrying.
- Consider the Bose only when its lighter splash protection and feature set suit your setting; IPX4 is not the choice for submersion.
