A Waterdrop filter may make tap water more pleasant to drink and more convenient to serve, but the benefit depends on the exact model and what is in your water. A pitcher such as the PT-07 is designed to reduce chlorine taste and odor; it is not a universal purifier, and taste improvement does not prove water is safe. Match any filter to a specific water-quality concern, then follow its setup and replacement instructions.
1. Reduce chlorine taste and odor
If your tap water has an unwanted chlorine taste or smell, a filter certified for that specific purpose may improve its flavor. Waterdrop lists its PT-07 pitcher filter as certified to NSF/ANSI 42 for chlorine, taste, and odor reduction. That is a defined claim, not evidence that the pitcher removes every contaminant.
Waterdrop also lists NSF/ANSI 372 for the PT-07, a standard concerning lead-free materials. That certification does not establish that the pitcher reduces lead in drinking water. For a lead-reduction claim, look for a model specifically evaluated and certified for that purpose; the EPA recommends third-party evaluation for lead and particulate reduction under NSF/ANSI 53 and 42. EPA’s filter identification tool can help identify qualifying pitcher and point-of-use filters.
2. Keep chilled water ready to serve
A pitcher suits people who want to filter a batch and keep it chilled, rather than wait at the tap for an installed system. Waterdrop describes the PT-07 as a 10-cup pitcher. Its listed capacity is a product specification, not a guarantee that every household will get 10 cups of immediately available filtered water at all times: the pitcher must be filled and allowed to filter.

3. Choose a format that fits your kitchen and water use
A pitcher and an under-sink reverse-osmosis system solve different convenience problems. The pitcher is a batch format; the G3P600 is an installed point-of-use system that requires under-sink space and electricity. Compare the actual model specifications rather than assuming that one format is universally better.

Before choosing, consider the contaminant you want to reduce, the model’s certification and performance data, how much water you use, available space, installation requirements, and replacement-filter maintenance. Stage count alone does not show how effective a system is. A total dissolved solids (TDS) reading also is not a complete measure of drinking-water safety.

Start with a water-quality question, not a broad “removes contaminants” label. Filter performance depends on the technology and the particular contaminant. NSF/ANSI standards describe specific claims: Standard 42 relates to taste and odor, Standard 53 is associated with certain health-effect claims, and Standard 58 applies to reverse osmosis. Check the exact model’s label, certification listing, and performance data for the substance you care about.

The CDC cautions that “Most home water filters—like pitcher or fridge filters—are not designed to remove germs from your water.” CDC guidance on choosing home water filters explains why a pitcher should not be treated as a universal purifier. Taste, smell, and appearance also cannot reliably establish whether water is safe.
If you use public water
Review your water utility’s annual water-quality report and identify any specific concern before choosing a filter. If the concern is a particular chemical or metal, select a model with a clear, model-specific reduction claim for it rather than relying on general filtration language. CDC recommends choosing a filter based on the specific germs or chemicals you want removed.

If you use a private well or rainwater system
Have the water tested at least annually, and contact local health authorities for guidance on testing. Choose a treatment device only after you know which contaminant needs attention. A pitcher marketed for taste and odor is not a substitute for testing or for treatment specifically suited to a well-water concern.

5. Set up and replace the filter as directed
Correct preparation and routine maintenance are part of using any filter responsibly. Waterdrop’s FAQ gives the following preparation steps for its pitcher filters; check the instructions for your exact model because procedures may differ:

- Soak the new filter in cold tap water for 10 minutes.
- Wash the pitcher parts by hand.
- Install the filter firmly.
- Discard the first two batches of filtered water.
For the PT-07, Waterdrop advertises a filter life of up to three months or 200 gallons. Treat that as the manufacturer’s stated limit, not an independently verified result; follow the product’s indicator and instructions for replacement. The CDC likewise advises regular maintenance and changing filters according to the manufacturer’s directions. CDC maintenance guidance covers the importance of keeping a filter in working order.
