No reliable evidence shows that the viral sip was Mark Zuckerberg’s first Guinness, or his last. The clip captures one moment from John Collison’s Cheeky Pint podcast, where Zuckerberg briefly tastes a pint, hesitates and puts it down. His only reported explanation of the expression was: “that’s just my face.”

What the viral Guinness clip actually shows

Zuckerberg appeared on Collison’s pub-style podcast with Meta AI executive Alexandr Wang while discussing Muse Wonder. The setting included drinks, and a 12-second excerpt showed Zuckerberg lifting a pint of Guinness, taking a sip, briefly swilling it and setting the glass down.

The Journal reported that the clip had passed 13 million views and 100,000 likes in 2026. Those numbers measure the video’s reach, not Zuckerberg’s opinion of the stout.

When someone posted about his expression on X, Zuckerberg replied with the exact sentence: “that’s just my face.” That is the only direct explanation attributed to him in the available reporting.

Was it his first Guinness?

Nothing in the footage establishes that it was. Viewers interpreted his hesitation as surprise, dislike or inexperience, but those are guesses. IBTimes UK specifically cautioned that the clip does not prove he was drinking beer for the first time, tasting Guinness for the first time or reacting negatively to it.

The interview transcript adds an important detail without answering the question. Zuckerberg said, “That’s a keg of Guinness that I brought you.” Asked where it came from, he answered “Dublin,” adding that he had just been there that week and that it was a good occasion to get the Guinness going. Bringing a Dublin keg proves that he supplied the beer for the recording; it does not document his earlier drinking history.

Did Zuckerberg hate Guinness?

There is no verified statement that he hated it. A single facial expression and a short sip cannot distinguish dislike from concentration, surprise, joking, the taste of a particular pour or simply his normal expression. The phrase “that’s just my face” addresses the meme, not the flavor.

The Guardian described the scene as showing Zuckerberg consuming roughly half the pint after 1 hour 20 minutes. It also reported that another full pint was present after an apparent filming break. Those observations describe what was visible during the recording; they do not establish his private reaction or prove that he finished either glass.

Was the moment staged?

The podcast’s format was deliberately pub-like, so serving Guinness was part of the interview setting rather than an unexpected laboratory-style taste test. The transcript confirms that Zuckerberg brought the keg and that the drink was discussed on camera. However, the reporting does not establish that the facial reaction was scripted, manufactured or staged for viral distribution.

It is safest to separate the production facts from online interpretation:

Question What the evidence supports
Did he drink Guinness? The clip shows him taking a sip.
Was it his first Guinness? Not established.
Was it his last Guinness? Not knowable; no documented final occasion is reported.
Did he dislike it? Not established.
Did he finish the pint? Not established. The Guardian reported roughly half consumed and another pint visible after a break.
Was the reaction staged? No reliable report proves that it was.

Why “first beer” became the online shorthand

Short clips encourage viewers to supply a backstory that the video does not contain. The exaggerated expression made “first beer” and “first Guinness” an easy joke, but those labels are viewer inference, not verified biographical facts. The clip has no date-stamped drinking history, medical context or statement from Zuckerberg saying he had never tasted stout.

Guinness context behind the story

The Guardian reported that Guinness sells about 1.88 billion pints globally each year and described Guinness 0.0 as the United Kingdom’s number-one non-alcoholic beer. Its historical account says Arthur Guinness began brewing porter in the 1770s and that Guinness draft was first poured in 1959. These facts explain the drink’s cultural reach, not Zuckerberg’s personal preference.
