WARDOGS Season 3 could be moved forward after backlash over seasonal wipes, but Bulkhead has not announced an earlier launch date. Season 2 began on October 15, 2026, and the current policy resets cash and short-term progression while converting leftover savings into Gold Bars. Accumulated XP is being retained for future long-term systems, but players still have to rebuild the progression that makes each season feel worthwhile.

What the WARDOGS wipe actually resets

Each seasonal reset is designed to clear the live-service economy and current progression. Cash and the season’s active progression are wiped, so players who have reached higher levels can be returned to the starting line. The reset is not a total deletion of every account value: remaining savings are converted into Gold Bars, and accumulated XP is being banked for future long-term progression systems.

Item What happens at a seasonal wipe Why it matters
In-game cash Reset; remaining savings convert to Gold Bars Players lose immediate spending power but retain a separate currency balance
Current progression Reset, including the level climb players have completed in that season Weapons, upgrades or other progression-dependent access may need to be earned again
Accumulated XP Banked for planned long-term systems The XP is not being discarded, although its future use is not yet fully available
Gold Bars Created from the player’s remaining savings Provides a persistent value after the cash reset

This is why the phrase “everything gets wiped” is misleading. The current seasonal path disappears, but Gold Bars and banked XP are intended to preserve some value between seasons. The practical frustration is that the time-consuming climb toward immediate unlocks still has to be repeated.

Why Bulkhead says wipes are necessary during Early Access

Bulkhead presents the wipe system as a development tool rather than a permanent punishment. In Early Access, the studio is still finding exploits, tuning the economy and testing how progression behaves when a large player population uses it at scale. A reset gives the team a controlled point at which to remove discovered advantages, change prices or reward rates, and evaluate a revised progression path without leaving old data in place.

#1 Best Overall
  • Exploit cleanup: a wipe can remove inflated currencies or progression created by loopholes.
  • Economy rebalance: the studio can adjust earning and spending without preserving an economy built around earlier values.
  • Progression experiments: new unlock pacing and reward structures can be measured from a common starting point.

Bulkhead has also acknowledged shortcomings in servers and balance while saying it is still learning from live data. Joe Brammer, the studio’s CEO and executive producer, described the current process bluntly: “We’re failing on getting Infantry servers to you guys. We originally decided to let community servers run them, but we’re not seeing enough of them.” That admission matters to the wipe debate because the resets are being used while the underlying systems are still changing.

Why players call the policy a “wrong call”

The developer rationale does not remove the cost for people with limited play time. PC Gamer estimated about 13 hours for one cited unlock, based on the writer’s observed XP pace and the matches still required. If a player reaches a meaningful unlock and is then returned to level 1, that time can feel like a temporary rental rather than lasting progress.

The conflict is therefore between two valid measurements of value:

Question Bulkhead’s development need Player’s concern
Persistence A clean baseline for each economy and progression test Hours spent earning access may disappear at the next reset
Time cost Repeated starts reveal whether the new pacing works A roughly 13-hour unlock can be unrealistic for a limited-time player
Balance data Fresh data shows how players use the revised systems Testing can feel like unpaid repetition when rewards are temporary
Season certainty Dates can change as Early Access priorities change Players cannot plan around a wipe without a firm schedule

Calling the wipes a “wrong call” is consequently a judgment, not an established technical fact. The system can be coherent for an Early Access economy and still be punishing for players who cannot invest many hours before every reset.

Is Season 3 coming earlier?

No confirmed source sets an earlier Season 3 date. The known schedule point is Season 2’s launch on October 15, 2026. Coverage and developer comments show interest in continuing with Seasons 2 and 3, but they do not establish that the backlash has changed the timetable.

An earlier Season 3 is best treated as a possibility or pressure point, not an announced plan. Moving the season forward could let Bulkhead deploy a revised economy or progression model sooner, but it could also shorten the time players have to use Season 2 content. Until the studio publishes a date, any claim that Season 3 “will” arrive early goes beyond the available evidence.

What Early Access means for WARDOGS progression

Early Access means the live game is also a development environment. Features can be withheld, altered or replaced to generate better testing data. Loadouts are the clearest example. Brammer said the team deliberately did not give developers loadouts so everyone would test more weapons instead of settling on a favorite setup:

“Internally, we deliberately never gave the team loadouts. If we had, everyone would have gravitated to their favourite setup and only ever tested with that. Withholding them forced the team to play with everything, which meant far more of the game got properly tested. The same thinking applies to players right now.”

Loadouts are planned as an in-game-cash unlock, so their delay is part of the same philosophy as the wipes: broaden behavior now, then add convenience after Bulkhead has gathered more balance data. For players, that means current friction may be intentional, but intentional friction still has a real time cost.

How to decide whether the XP grind is worth it

The answer depends on what you want from the current season.

  • Play for experimentation: the grind can be worthwhile if you enjoy trying different weapons and helping shape balance while systems are changing.
  • Play for permanent progression: prioritize only the rewards whose value is clearly persistent, such as Gold Bars created from remaining savings and XP being banked for future systems.
  • Play on a limited schedule: assume that current-level progress may need to be rebuilt and avoid treating a near-term unlock as a guaranteed long-term investment.
  • Play competitively: expect balance and server changes to alter the value of a setup before the next season.

The reported 428,666-player Steam peak, cited by GamesRadar+ from SteamDB, shows the scale at which these experiments are occurring. It was a reported high point before an early decline, not proof that every player supported or rejected the wipe model. Large participation gives Bulkhead more data, but it also makes the cost of a poorly timed reset more visible.

What players should watch next

The most meaningful announcement will be a dated Season 3 schedule accompanied by a clear persistence list. Until then, watch for three concrete details: whether Bulkhead changes the amount of progression removed, how Gold Bars and banked XP will function in the long-term system, and whether server and balance fixes arrive before another reset. Those details will tell players more than a headline promising an early season.

For now, the defensible conclusion is narrow: WARDOGS’ wipes are a real Early Access testing strategy, the grind can make them feel punitive, Season 2 started on October 15, 2026, and Season 3 has not been officially moved earlier.
